According to a Microsoft representative at X08 in Toronto,
Duke Nukem 3D will include two new features when it releases "
sometime in September": A saved film and gameplay rewind feature. As explained by the rep, the rewind function allows players to rewind a portion of the game if they had a particularly enthralling firefight with LARD troops or to undo any major mistakes (e.g. including death). The saved film feature works as you would imagine: Players are able to take saved clips from multiplayer and share them online with friends. With this much new content added for an Arcade release
Duke Nukem might just become popular again. Someone should really look into releasing a new game in that series ... oh, wait.

bet 3d Realms wish they could rewind to get the last 10 years of Duke Nukem Forever "development" back

I still have hope for it.A lot of vaporware games turned out pretty good. TF2,STALKER and Prey for example.
Jakka(Naked Peach Defence Force!) @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:04AM
Oh, I almost forgot - Blizzard. Need I say more?
snarfoogle @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:44AM
Jakka only the first game you mentioned turned out to be good.
t_m @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:20AM
Stalker wasn't good? Wow.. i'd better let everyone know quick!!
dark_inchworm @ Aug 22nd 2008 3:51PM
Prey blew chunks, my friend. Ok, just an opinion, yeah I know. But they scrapped the original incarnation with my favorite band in the world on soundtrack duty (guess who?), and the portal gimmick blew chunks, especially after another portal-based game demonstrated how portals are effectively done.

I know this is like your 5th post, but welcome, Xav. Rad name.
Jakka(Naked Peach Defence Force!) @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:03AM
Dude, Xav is not exactly "new". He's been writing on X3F for months...

Braid Nukem 3d?
Psaakyrn @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:15AM
Sorry, but Braid is certainly not the most notable game with rewind features...
Solid @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:25AM
Oh wait a second...Are you serious? Like really? You totally showed me the way. I would have never known that there are other ones - more notable out there if it weren't for your post that apologised to me for some reason.
...Thank you for that post. It really needed to be said (like mine? hehe)
Tiptup300 @ Aug 22nd 2008 1:07PM
Apparently they aren't that notable.
Obie @ Aug 22nd 2008 2:40PM
Duke of Persia??
Nice!

Dulinx Shiftum 3d... meh

Have you noticed how everybody's been ripping-off Halo recently? First GTA4 and now DN3D. Hopefully more games will use that feature.
Psaakyrn @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:20AM
I know not what you're talking about. Are you implying that Halo is the first with saved film capabilities?
Nigeria @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:26AM
Driver 1 had saved replays back in 98. You could cut and edit your videos too.
Solid @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:33AM
The more companies that implement this feature successfully, the more happy I am.
I don't care who do it first or when, screw who rips off who. Its fun =p Plus, replay feature thing is actually in quite a lot of games - although I do enjoy it in Halo quite a bit.
snarfoogle @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:46AM
Since when does GTA4 have saved films or screenshots? That was one of the disappointing parts of the game.
Still, Halo 3's films and screenshots are great, and I'm glad to see more games using them.
dextro @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:46AM
Hell, Quake II had "demo recording" back in the day...
Wiinterfang @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:50AM
Even capcom vs Snk had a replay feature.
Yourself @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:34PM
To add to the list of grief, StarCraft, 1998.
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 22nd 2008 1:55PM
Yes, it also true but when you think "Console Game with Saved Films Feature", Halo 3 IS the first thing that comes in mind.Same way people always say GTA-like gameplay even though GTA was far from being the first sandbox game.
dark_inchworm @ Aug 22nd 2008 3:53PM
Starcraft didn't get a record/replay feature until one of its later patches.
But hell, who's countin'? Point's been proven.
FOXHOUND @ Aug 22nd 2008 9:55AM
Remember when Duke Nukem gave half a paycheck's worth of booze money to those strippers?
Pepperidge Farms remembers. :]
Turkish Superman @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:08AM
Nothing makes a 12-year-old game better than a rewind feature.
Dell @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:14AM
Duke3D was a sweet, sweet title in its time. Adding it to xbl at all pleases me. Giving it a new feature or two just makes me happier. Dopefish lives.
t_m @ Aug 22nd 2008 10:22AM
I wish ALL games came with a rewind feature... then we could do away with stupid checkpoints, quicksaves, restarts, etc...
AwesomeTown @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:01AM
As long as the rewind mode is damn quick to go back, I'll enjoy it. Otherwise I don't see the need at all with either savegames or a checkpoint system.
