I fear I've been bested by 2P Start on this day. On a side note, I feed my Pokemans soda all the time without said adverse side effects.

When they started doing Penny Arcade (I am not a big fan, so don't know if it started as a comic or a news site), did they expect it to become so popular and even have their own gaming convention?

Are you concerned that between PAX, RSPoD, and any other forthcoming endeavors, you might seem to be joining the establishment to which you satirize?

Question for Mr. Hootkins: How long have you been hairless? And being from Spokane, which apparently has a large, active skinhead population, did you ever get mistaken anger towards you because of it?

Tycho, Gabe, why don't you ever answer my e-mails?

Actual questions:
1) Tycho, how did you choose the name of an astronomer from centuries ago?

2) Do you two, in your position, see the rise of casual games pulling developers of triple A, high budget titles into the more profitable casual market?

3) Gabe, do you have other styles of art that you practice (not that I don't like the PA, comic style)?

You need to stop encouraging these idiots who think they're funny and write comics. If you stop posting them maybe they will give up and go back to their jobs at Arby's slingin roast beef.

Who has the Pac-Man watch now, and are there any plans for it to change hands again? I ask since there's at least one occasion where Gabe kills Tycho after Tycho sics the dog on Gabe (forget which comic it was, but Gabe curb-stomped Tycho on a game counter over some DS or PSP game), but there's no indication that the watch changed hands.

I know it's from almost two years ago, but they said some pretty awful stuff about you guys. I mean they called this site "the retard rodeo." I just want to know if there is still bad blood between you guys.

Glad someone remembers that. I still love the "retard rodeo" quote. Soon after, a trio of Joystiqers went to the Tokyo Game Show. We considered taking an Abbey Road-esque picture at Shibuya Crossing and signing it "greetings from the retard rodeo!" Instead we just added the quip here: http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/17/the-joystiq-weekend-september-16-17-2006/

Gaming comics has defined webcomics like superheroes has defined print comics. However, how long would this genre would last, and when it's old & outdated, how would Penny Arcade survive?

Ever since Robert Khoo has been brought onboard, Penny Arcade has become a resounding success, what with PAX & Child's Play. For those of webcomics creators who can't afford a man like Khoo, what sort of financial & business advice would you give us, like:
A) When we start our first webcomics, what sort of business plan must we set down for a long term?

B) How can we webcomics type handle the business side of things, because, good god, we're creative types, not evil greedy lollipop-stealing money-makers?!

C) Even with good content in our webcomics may not be enough to bring in audience & profits. How can we expand our webcomics beyond entertaining people for shits-n-giggles?

D) Despite all those business stuff we have to handle, how can we still keep our individuality, unique style & a need to offend people? How can we safeguard ourselves against a slide down mediocrity?

And to Mr Robert Khoo, if you can, would you plan on setting up a business consultancy firm that helps give advice to creators, who wish to start their own webcomics, on handling the business side? Or, if that's too much, at least recommend some of your friends that creators can turn to?

Do you ever envision PAX, Child's Play, and your other projects eclipsing your core product -- the comic and news post -- for attention and resources?

One more question:

You've seen successes of Homestar Runner, Red vs Blue, Penny Arcade yourself, etc. all of which adopted a free model. When making webcomics, how can achieve this kind of success, besides making great content?
What kind of plan must we take on the long road to become a growing cult, if not a smash, hit?
And how should we take care of our webcomics?

My question to Gabe and Tycho would be if they think that it's just a little bit hypocritical that they sometimes complain about how Microsoft and other developers nickel and dime gamers, especially with regards to themes and gamerpics on the Marketplace, all the while they sell their own picture packs on there. I realize they are trying to run a business, but a few free gamerpics would be nice, I mean how hard can it be to put out a small fraction of your stuff for free? And if they don't agree with putting a few pics on there, then why not?

Obviously, if their "what's $5 more?" argument works, all they need to do is repeat and they have a sale.
