Japanese hardware sales, Aug. 11 - Aug. 17: Back to school edition

With all the superb, high-quality games that dropped this summer, we wouldn't blame you for feeling like your scholastic minds aren't exactly at their sharpest. Instead of doing your summer reading of The Sun Also Rises or attending your bi-weekly Algebra Club meetings, you focused your attention on moving up the ranks of Battlefield: Bad Company or toiling through the story modes of Soul Calibur IV. Luckily, the repercussions of your educational neglect aren't as severe as you might fear -- somewhat subliminally, these Japanese hardware sales posts have provided subtle instruction over the long, humid summer months.
Don't believe us? Perhaps you don't recall the various history lessons we've snuck into your consciousness. It seems you also don't realize the firm understanding of the statistical sciences we've surreptitiously imbued into your unaware mind. How quickly you've forgotten the important baking lesson that will certainly serve you well as you enter your incredibly challenging Home Economics course. Finally, think back to the valuable lessons of acceptance, resourcefulness, and stick-to-itiveness we imparted as we faced our own work-related hardships.
Hemingway is for the birds; we'd wager that as you grace the halls of your learning establishment tomorrow morning, you'll find yourself better equipped than your contemporaries for the mental challenges provided by your educators -- and for that, we have just one thing to say. You're very, very welcome.

anonim1979 @ Aug 24th 2008 9:34PM
Mr. X360 should use those prescriptions for (65-80 year-old age bracket) medications from ads.
I heard they help with those pesky shortages (or was that shortness? ;) ) problems.

What? I don't get it. Is that a viagra joke...? If so it doesn't even make sense. Thats not what viagra does...

wow and i thought this comment system was supposed to be better
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 24th 2008 8:58PM
Thats what I thought, keeps asking me to put pass in, should be there automatically!
And new comments won't show up unless you refresh page 100 times.
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 24th 2008 10:21PM
They have been avoiding the comment system for more than a year (really, no kidding).
They even had a thread about the comment system problems: the funny thing is the picture, saying that the staff don't have problems with the comment system, but how can do they notice the problems if they only post like two or three comments per week?
Now with this layout things are worst: "Returning" is not the default selected tab, E-mail doesn't save even with the "Remember me" option checked, comments keep dissapearing (you have to refresh the page several times for the comments to appear), double posts, replys don't working sometimes, etc.

I don't know about anywhere else but when you compare the comment/login system here to Destructoid it is an absolute fucking disgrace. Those guys managed to integrate a comment system with your profile and a personal blog, all easily accessible and all working perfectly.
Here half the time I don't know if what I've posted is going to appear (or if it may do so in one minute, 5 minutes or the next day), if it is a reply I'm scared it's going to end up to someone that it wasn't intended to. Heck, I still don't know whether I can change my email address and still retain my current username.
Get it sorted guys and make it clear to your readers what is going on. I'm pretty sure that Kotaku doesn't have 3 or 4 times your readership (or at least they shouldn't) yet the commenters are about that much more active there, probably because their system isn't fucked.
Fernando: I know you've been pining for it for a while now but Super Mario RPG was released on the EU Virtual Console on Friday. Never having had the chance to play it before I understand now why you wanted it so badly. Hopefully you guys will get it soon.
Fernando Rocker @ Aug 24th 2008 11:09PM
Comrade
I post in other blogs (but Joystiq is my main gaming site) and Joystiq comment system is very rudimentary. I wish we could have little profiles too (the VG Chartz profiles are very good, same with the Destructiod).
And I just want a system that I have to log in just once. Like every other site.
And yes... I want Super Mario RPG =( that game is very good. The music, graphics, gameplay, writing...
Enjoy it =p

August was a very strong month for Wii, software-wise. A triple punch of Wario, Capt Rainbow, and Fatal Frame
While we're stuck with Mario Sluggers. Feh.

Most 70's and 80's gamers are more prone to develop arthritis on their fingers.
all of us gamers will have to deal with hemorroids sooner or later.

How can schools be starting already? It's not even Labor Day yet, so a bunch of people still have a week of travel and leisure.

It's the comment system man, it KNOWS when you're pissed off and are writing a comment about just how much it sucks. Then, just to spite you, that's the only comment it'll show you. That's how much of a douche the comment system is.

tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 25th 2008 7:29AM
