Samba de Amigo Wii maracas priced, dated on Amazon
As you could probably deduce from earlier posts concerning ill-conceived pseudo-peripherals for Nintendo's latest home console -- we're not really fans of most Wiimote attachments. We don't need a cheap, plastic tennis racket snapped to the front of our controller to "get our McEnroe on" when playing Wii Tennis. We don't need our Wiimote to look like an ugly sword to carve up baddies in Twilight Princess. However, we suppose the only thing that could counteract our disdain for these shoddy add-ons is our unbridled love of Latin American percussion instruments.
We caught a glimpse of the "prototype" Samba de Amigo maracas a couple months ago, but a recent Amazon listing for the attachments shows that the ol' bean shakers have undergone a makeover, taking on a sassy red finish. The date Amazon has listed for the maracas is September 23 for the price of $14.99 -- though considering the title will come bundled with the attachments, you'd only need to pick these up if you wish to share the true Samba experience with a multiplayer pal. Or if you somehow broke yours, we guess. Or if you're Goro.

Umm..what the hell.
nxtiak @ Aug 24th 2008 4:23PM
What? I paid like $100 for the Dreamcast version years ago and that had weird wires attached to it for the game to be able to detect your maracas and how you move it around. Samba De Amigo is freaking awesome, can't wait for it for the Wii!
Slayer @ Aug 24th 2008 4:41PM
@nxtiak
Aren't all these controllers and addons getting to be a bit much at some point?
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 24th 2008 5:49PM
There were two stages.Pre-Rock Band and Post-Rock Band.Nobody gives a shit now.
juju187 @ Aug 24th 2008 4:25PM
those are the fanciest plastic shells ive seen,
Dreamcast ones were better...
vidGuy @ Aug 24th 2008 4:55PM
In before the bitching. I declare these maracas are not for serious gamers and serious gamers should neither use nor condone the use of said item. Casual gamers, however, will go absolutely nuts for them, thus selling more copies of the game. What's wrong with that?
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 24th 2008 5:51PM
That's a saaad Mario, crying over how he got abandoned by Nintendo who chose Wii Music instead.
Here's "what's wrong"!
ultm8oulijah @ Aug 30th 2008 8:14AM
no they r not 4 serious gamers like anyone would like 2 play samba de amigo seriously and not 4 fun. anyways most if not all dreamcast fans will like the attachments and maraca noise out of the wii speaker may suck, also what do u define a "serious gamer"
Badger_badger_badger @ Aug 24th 2008 5:03PM
LOL WUT
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 24th 2008 5:27PM
More useless items ¬_¬ I have yet to pick up any of these, i have no reason to, they won't improve my wii fun experience any more then it already is.
Obie @ Aug 24th 2008 5:35PM
I would pick these up, but I noticed they are built for the Wiimote/ Nunchuck combo...I'd rather play the game with two Wiimotes for better accuracy.
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 24th 2008 5:46PM
Yeah but how else could you do THIS?

NoOoOOoOOoO!
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 24th 2008 5:56PM
Speaking of expensive yet absolutely useless items, who is that retard from Twitter that bought ION Drum Set? Forget Maracas, now that's a REAL waste of money!
Obie @ Aug 24th 2008 6:08PM
I know? Why buy super expensive fake drums, when you can buy quality REAL ones?
People are weird.
OwningXylophone @ Aug 24th 2008 6:39PM
I disagree, if you are the kind of person that will actually use them as a proper electronic drumkit then they are well worth the money...
$300 to use them only with your xbox on the other hand, that's a waste of money!
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 24th 2008 7:11PM
Maybe, but if I'm pretty sure that anybody who was really into drums would find a much better electronic drums for $400 than the ION Set.
It's like if Fender made real guitars that played Rock Band.Sure, they would be a nice gadget but I'm sure that the Game-Real Guitar would be pathetic compared to it's 100% Real counter-parts from the same price range.
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 24th 2008 7:43PM
Think thats bad? A classmate of mine back in school spent £500 to get an Xbox and that mech assult control kit thing with all the buttons on it. Considering he only used it for that one game and nothing else, now THAT was a waste of money.
Lijik @ Aug 24th 2008 7:16PM
For useless plastic add-ons, these sure do look nice unlike the other accessories.
Had those not existed, I probably would of thought that these were completely awesome.
Mr. Crab @ Aug 24th 2008 9:18PM
Maracas + Wii.
Match made in Heaven
skinz71 @ Aug 24th 2008 9:34PM
I wander when the Wii will send out the toy box for all this crap!
ComradeTrotskii @ Aug 24th 2008 10:43PM
I wonder how when the 'o' is about as far away from the 'a' key as you can possibly get on a keyboard how you managed to make that horrendous typo.
But hey, we all like to criticise unnecessarily and without any substance for no good reason so why not, eh?
Raikage (GOLDEN Gun Of The Patriots) @ Aug 25th 2008 2:58AM
I don't normally say this, but bravo good sir on the boo-urn, bravo...
SeannyD @ Aug 24th 2008 9:58PM
Wow. I'm rather surprised by all the negative reactions to these. Personally, this will make the game for me. I know that a lot of people are anti-casual around here, but Samba De Amigo was honestly my favorite game for the Dreamcast. I spent $80 on the maraca controller. Why? Because it was worth it.
What I'm HOPING makes this shell different than other shells is the fact that it will SOUND like a maraca. Half of the fun of this game is the sound of the maracas as you shake along to the music. So while I certainly do not condone a fake tennis racket that adds nothing of value to your game of Wii Sports, I feel that this is an add-on that is completely justified (and apparently also comes in the packaging, so this is supposedly if you wanted an EXTRA set.)
Long live Samba!
ultm8oulijah @ Aug 30th 2008 2:35PM
why r some people below me bitching about the maraca's and comparing them 2 the absolutely useless wii sports attachments people buy them for the full arcade experience! samba de amigo is a classic game no, you dont NEED the maraca's but 4 the arcade feel people can buy them OPTIONALLY :p
