In the beginning, Media Molecule made LittleBigPlanet. But the levels were barren and flat, and devoid of obstacles, so the player moved upon the face of the level creation system. And the player said, "Let there be swinging, spongy balls," and there were swinging, spongy balls. And the player saw the swinging, spongy balls, that they were good, and he divided the swinging, spongy balls from the electrified floor.
If you needed any more proof that LittleBigPlanet's level creation system is going to be mind-blowingly robust, (though arguably less robust then the level creation system discussed in Genesis), we turn your attention to the video posted after the break -- a time-lapse sneak preview of a player crafting his own level. It's a pretty clever design, and looks like a blast -- best of all, it only took about ten minutes. That kind of thing apparently used to take seven days. Thanks, technology!

Is it just me or is it weird that this game looks much better than the PS3's big budget titles.

This IS one of the PS3's big budget titles...
I would bet the amount of $ they've dropped on this beast far outweighs something like Haze or Lair by a long shot.

Haze maybe. Lair probably not. Factor 5 went all-out, though Media Create did too, but Little Big Planet is less heavy on the art assets and number of objects, since its built as a custom game anyway
Not to belittle it, but it definitely cost a lot less than some of the PS3's other heavy-hitters

Thank god the PS3 supports USB keyboard/mouse, it'll make level creation 10X faster... hopefully.

10x is a bit of an overkill.I doubt you can make macros etc. so keyboard will be on par with useless. As for mouse it will definitely be very precise and smooth out all the movement but you'll still have to go through hundreds bitchin' menus :(
Still, it's better than the kind of shit that normal users(aka DS3/SIXAXIS owners) will have to go through.

All controlled via Sixaxis/DS3, the UI has been designed around that so a mouse would be a bit pointless. Can use a keyboard for typing in text or naming levels and such but that's about it.

You all do realise that this was sped up quite a bit and it took them probably the better part of an hour to make a level that can be played in 10 seconds or so..
I forsee a lot of people playing the 60 or so pre-made levels, messing around with the creator for 15-30 minutes and them moving back to CoD4 or on to SOCOM.

I do see your point, but know that as long as there are nerds, there will always be somebody willing to spend some more time on it and create some awesome maps.

Yeah, I get what you mean, and that describes what I would do with it.
(I don't know why this was voted down, he has a point.)
Luckily, I can benefit from the more creative members of the community that will spring up around this game.
I'd buy it to play other people's awesome levels more than I would to create my own.

Mind you, spawning four swinging spongy balls,an electrified floor and a background with five stickers on it, isn't much of an achievement either.
I don't agree with all of what he says but he does have a point.I could do something like this on GMod using ropes and some props and it would take me far less time than ten minutes.

Then it should read "a time-lapse sneak preview of players crafting their own level."
So it took three people 10 minutes to create that?
Robust? Yes. Fast? Not really.
I'll still probably sink in a few hours on it though.

The editor could definitely do great things, but it seems very unintuitive and confusing.Maybe it's just the side-effect of the time lapse, but it feels like all they did was simply dig through more and more menus.
Speaking of which, it really took them a lot of time and work to create such a tiny level...hopefully they still have time to do something about it.

Im guessing it isn't as hard as it looks, the devs have made that clear one too many times and the beta testers, those lucky bastard reviers who got to test it out etc also said its easier to use then looks.
But if a person can spend ages making lets say a level in Halo 3, a creature in spore, designing your perfect car in Forza or what not all without gaining a single thing from any of it, why not create something with your mates in LBP?

@ Firesign
I did read it.And ten minutes does = a long time as I could create something like this in GMod in less than that. And mind you, doing that in GMod is probably a lot harder than in LBP.
(And I know I've already used this analogy put it's probably as good as it gets.)

Yes, El Cerpiente.
What sets us apart is the fact that I can back up my arguments, I don't troll and when I'm arguing over something, I tend to focus on the main points instead of just shitting all over the author of these points.
PS: How am I "trying really hard"? I played the video, and I saw a cluster fuck of menus. So I wrote down my observation.Same way I saw I've read your comment and realised you're a massive fanboy which I am right now pointing out, too.
PS2: Too Human is still better than H4.5ze will ever be.

First of all, Too Human doesn't suck.75% is faaaar from a bad game. And this is just a reference to that time he called Haze infinitely better than Too Human, claiming that we're just jealous coz we can't get it on 360.He even called Anticrawl a troll :-)
I'm not sure how a person like that can accuse me of trolling.Especially that I LIKE LITTLEBIGPLANET!

I wasn't going by the reviews, I was going by my own experience, I don't listen to reviews. That and alone in the dark went straight back to the places I bought them from :)
And so did Haze, and so did Lair. 7.5 means jack all to me, thats just a number, it doesn't mean anything to me.

Jakka, you said that "you could do that in GMod in less time", then you go on to say "GMod is probably harder to use". If it were harder to use, how could you make things faster?
It seems you can't decide whether you want to bitch about a game you've never played or brag about yourself. You couldn't make it more obvious that you're full of shit.
