In the beginning, Media Molecule made LittleBigPlanet. But the levels were barren and flat, and devoid of obstacles, so the player moved upon the face of the level creation system. And the player said, "Let there be swinging, spongy balls," and there were swinging, spongy balls. And the player saw the swinging, spongy balls, that they were good, and he divided the swinging, spongy balls from the electrified floor.
If you needed any more proof that LittleBigPlanet's level creation system is going to be mind-blowingly robust, (though arguably less robust then the level creation system discussed in Genesis), we turn your attention to the video posted after the break -- a time-lapse sneak preview of a player crafting his own level. It's a pretty clever design, and looks like a blast -- best of all, it only took about ten minutes. That kind of thing apparently used to take seven days. Thanks, technology!

I think this looks really complicated and a lot of work for that small of a level. I hope this game fails...I'm sick of the hype and it looks lame.
And hey I also hate this new comment box

Dude, hate the hype but don't hate the game. Even though one = other here considering how often I get downvoted when it comes to LBP.
Personally I don't want to it to fail, but I'd love for it to get an average of 80-85%.That would be a fine bitch slap for people who treat this game like the second coming of Jesus.

Ach, the wonderful irony.Live in denial and don't forget to downvote me even when I'm defending your bloody game.

Wanting the game to get rated a certain way to deliver a "bitch slap" to the fans of it is not defending it. You're severely deluded as to your fanboy/troll status. You seem to be working on self-declared pariah status though.

I'm really excited for this. I already pre-ordered it and I haven't even picked up my PS3 yet (no, this is not the only reason I'm getting a PS3, it just so happens that the same time BC is about to leave this game was coming out... I would have waited a little longer but now I need to secure a system with BC). This game clearly isn't for everyone. I'm excited for the level creator but I could definitely see people finding it to be too cumbersome.

I just picked up the MGS bundle about a month ago for pretty much the same reason, want to make sure I get at least *some* BC. Can't wait for this game!

When you guys mentioned Genesis I clicked the link wondering what game in the Sega era had a robust level creation system and whether I could download it off of the Wii shop channel or otherwise obtain it as a rom.

I only have a Wii/360/PC but if there was ever a reason to own a ps3, it's LittleBigPlanet.
Hope it comes to 360.

For the last time LBP is owned by SCEE, the game and the IP. There is no chance of a 360 version.

Yeah, it's totally likely that Sony (the game's publisher) would release this for 360 as well.

My friends with xboxes love coming over to play super smash bros and will drool while I'm playing naruto ninja storm but why do I have a feeling that they will make fun when I ask them to come create levels with me in LBP?
Posted: Aug 24th 2008 4:03PM Spunky Monkey 190906 said
Lol, can't answer that, but all my mates are adults and they wouldn't mind having a shot at making a level with me on LBP, most of them like the looks of the game as much as they did smash bros, so don't see it as an issue at all, if it does become an issue, its just immaturity as far as I'm concerned.

Lol, see, I was thinking that, but thought it harsh to actually say, besides, many people like Naruto, just because I don't doesn't mean others can't have thier own opinions ey.

"You all do realise that this was sped up quite a bit and it took them probably the better part of an hour to make a level that can be played in 10 seconds or so..
I forsee a lot of people playing the 60 or so pre-made levels, messing around with the creator for 15-30 minutes and them moving back to CoD4 or on to SOCOM."
tell that to the TES:Oblivion community...

I can see it now, each adolescent boy will have 7+ pornographic levels in thier collection with the few remaining being the levels they made suprisingly none pornographic to make a name for themselves in the LBP community :)

You people are lazy, I can see myself spending 7+ hours on a weekend making a level if it's as fun as it sounds/looks.

My goodness. All that effort, millions of menu popups, lots of scrolling and clicking, for what, a simplistic level with a handful of items in it? That's ridiculous. I hope they can streamline the creation process. One problem with having so many options is that people need to move through them.
Oh Reggie you moron, why didn't you take these guys up on the game when they approached you? You're so out of touch.

What effort? What are you going on about? How else do you expect to get access to the pictures and content you have downloaded, made and already on your harddrive?
The level maker looks no easier or harder to use then that of Smash Brothers level editor, and that is easy as hell to use, just with less freedom.
While this could have appeared on Wii, it wouldn't have looked half as nice as it does now, as much as I love my Wii, I have to admit it.

You don't have to, thats the wonderful thing about it, nobody is forcing you to at all, the same way you don't have to make levels in Smash Bros or have to make levels in Halo 3. There are enough levels to play on your own or with mates as it stands, its just more fun playing on your own levels.
Its an added option, and that comment is weak ¬_¬ You've pretty much summed up most games in todays world that allow the gamer freedom to create, just because you're too lazy to doen't mean some of the rest of us wouldn't like the option.

To add to that, with that attitude, I suggest you don't play other people's levels then, why should they take time and consideration to entertain you if you don't appreciate it.
Thats why its a community, even if you don't create anything, there will always be people who like to 'create', and you are one of the people who benefits from it when you download.

Yeah, 60 levels of running on platforms and teetering see-saws. Huzzah. The big selling point is the user content, which means all the people who buy it will have endless penis levels to play through.
Most overhyped game of all time. Oh, no, wait - that's Spore. Okay, SECOND most overhyped game of all time.

Bass, your comment still makes no sense, once again, you've summed up nearly all games in existance, the only difference is LBP is going sideways, and just because you don't like it doesn't mean everybody has to agree with you. You may not spend, but someone else will spend. Nobody is forcing you to buy anything, based on that attitude, I'm suprised you play games at all because all games have you running endlessly through levels doing similar stuff until you reach the end, thats the whole point of a game. Or have you just woken up from your 500 year slumber?

am looking forward to this title....not really one to do level creations myself (tried some in Halo3--this looks more complicated (more options) yet wayyyy easier). however, I'll most likely enjoy the game and spend most of my time playing other people's creations. what's not to like about that?!!!

I see they used 3 levels of 2D fluid dynamic sim fire/smoke. I pushed hard for that feature while doing the fire for Uncharted. ND told me I couldn't have that feature, but I'm glad the blokes at Media Molecule were willing to go that extra step. It really looks great, and I knew the PS3 could handle it. They need to put something on the sides of burning things, though, so you don't just see the 3 layers sticking out. I hope the players can catch on fire too. It could make for some cool puzzles where you have to act as a walking fuse. BRAVO!!!
