Most games tend to build upon an established idea. But a few troublemakers try to diverge from the pack and make their own path. Rumored to have caught the attention and admiration of Shigeru Miyamoto during E3, BioShock is a key argument in the games as art debate. While safely grounded as a First Person Shooter, the gameplay revolves heavily around the player's personal morality. Without going into great detail, the most visible meditation on morality occurs when the player decides to sacrifice or protect other characters. Both have distinct and complex pros and cons, much like the regular choices we make in our lives.
Though the graphics are gorgeous, the gameplay and theme should be most appealing to Wii-owners. As the leading activists in the gameplay over graphics philosophy, we crave such ideas that would succeed despite graphical presentation. Although the idea of BioShock as it currently exists seems unrealistic on the Wii, a job posting several months ago by developer 2K Marin seeks developers familiar with Nintendo's system. Coupled with positive statements by Tech Director Chris Kline, perhaps we can look forward to an original experience for the Wii featuring similar gameplay.
