If you've been holding off for just the right moment to get a PS3, that moment may be swiftly approaching: At midnight (Pacific Time) on Wednesday Amazon will be mounting a Gold Box event that features all PS3 deals, all day.
Now, we admit we have no real clue what will be up for grabs or just how good the savings will be. But, hey, if the Circus of Values pulls into town and you miss it, don't come crying to us.

A $300 PS3 (or a $400 bundle with LittleBigPlanet) would probably get me to pull the trigger.

Before to long, even the lemmings will be wanting to get on the PS3 express. Retailers see the steady momentum that the PS3 is contnuing to build up with NO SIGN of slowing down. If fact, all signs point to more and more sales while a certain other system continues to see a decline.
Blu-ray is not needed.
The Cell is not made for games.
The RSX was a last minute fix.
There are no games.
All of those "arguements" against the PS3 look pretty silly now don't they.

A poor excuse for an argument. Surely you can do better.
1. Bluray wasn’t needed. (key word there is need) It crippled Sony’s start, and just now, 2 years later, are they seriously recovering. Are they outselling 360 now? In some cases, yes, they are. Was it worth not outselling them for about 1.5 years, plus sacrificing 6 months off the release time due to lack of bluray diodes? Probably not.
2. The Cell WASNT made for games, and still is considered by many to be a poor move on Sony’s part.
3. The RSX is a revamped Geforce 7800, no joke, look at the specs and you’ll see.
4. There are no games. The one thing that is actually starting to become untrue, but do a quick metacritic/gamerankings search of which system has more 80%+ rated games, and the 360 by and large pulls away from the PS3.
Im not bashing the PS3 (well, maybe a little), it is a fine system, but your attempts to go "omgz, lolz Xbox sucs" in the future will hopefully be a bit more thought out.
PS3 still makes a fine movie player though, and some good games that the ps3 fanboys have been talking about for 3 years are actually coming out. When/if I go bluray (starting to think I’ll just skip a format generation, as disk media seems to be dying pretty fast), It’ll probably be via ps3.

As a Sony/Playstation fanboy, I still feel that Blu-Ray is not needed for games.
Most games still do not take advantage of the format, and especially the many cross-platform games that fit on DVD on the Xbox 360 and Blu-Ray is a complete waste of them.
Some have said the PS3's Blu-Ray drive is as fast as the DVD drive in the 360, but I don't buy that, the mandatory installs many games require, especially several cross platform games is disheartening.
The main thing that set back Sony was the high price of the PS3 because of the Blu-Ray tech, its had a slow start and then developers were reluctant to support it and then even more have gone to the Xbox 360.
I really feel that Sony should have released two main SKUs, one to play Blu-Ray movies and one that could not, and all games would be on DVD format.

Who is voting this clown up?
The only thing that may not be true on the list is not having games... Even then, the 360 arguably has better, and even the PS brand's trump card Final Fantasy.

Raikage, I agree the 360 overall has a better game library than the PS3s, but that the PS3 has plenty of exclusives to make its purchase worthwhile to me, along with Blu-Ray playback.
I am upset at Sony at killing PS2 BC for good now, the 160gb model is confirmed not to have it correct?

No... None of those arguments seem silly at all.
"Blu-ray is not needed."
Blu-Ray is not needed. At this point in time and likely through the rest of this console generation, Blu-Ray is, and will continue to be, a luxury item that is not necessary for games.
"The Cell is not made for games."
No, it wasn't- not in it's current form, anyway. With 1 core, it is not able to surpass the Xenos, really, only doing so in a few aspects with marginal results. Either the Cell should have 2 cores along with it's 8 SPE's, or Sony should have stuck with a conventional processor.
"The RSX was a last minute fix."
This is true. It was a last minute fix. Sony intended on the Cell being able to do the computations of both a graphic's processor and a main processor... They failed at this attempt because the Cell would simply be too expensive for their budget, and increase the retail price of the PS3 drastically. Proof of this fact is the RSX itself. It is merely a carbon copy of the 7800GTX's GPU, the G70 (re-dubbed the NV47), with slightly higher clocks.
"There are no games."
This is not true. While it was pretty much true at one point, it isn't anymore, though, in my opinion, the library lacks in comparison to the 360's.
I don't see why you say the 360 is "declining". Remember that burst of sales in Japan? The 360 is gaining popularity there, and the reason PS3 is starting to do better than the 360 in other countries is because those areas are already fairly saturated with Xbox 360's, so naturally, sales would, and have slowed down. Once the PS3 gets to around the 360's numbers, the sales will slow down just the same.
Killjebus, I don't know what kind of logic you were using when you made that post, or if you were using any at all, but please, before you reply to me or anyone else, think about what you're saying.

Zeus,
for being omnipotent...you sure have alot of MISSinformation about Cell and the RSX.
Do I really have to post links to articles that shoot you down as fast as Maverick?
I guess I do.
1st article explains why the ram in the PS3 is better than the ram for the 360.
http://talkplaystation.com/ps3s-ram-and-rsx-explained/
This next one shows how powerful the Cell is at complex 3d imaging.
http://www.mc.com/mercury.aspx?langtype=1033&id=10045
Next up shows that even after 2 years, the Cell is still the most powerfull chip.
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080430-ps3s-cell-cpu-tops-high-performance-computing-benchmark.html
Finally we have two press release articles that show without a doubt that the RSX was indeed designed specifically for use with the Cell.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/12/07/nvidia_ps3_design_win/http://www.zdnetindia.com/print.html?iElementId=113659
"The companies revealed in a joint statement that they have been working together for the past two years to develop a graphics processor based on Sony technology and Nvidia's GeForce architecture for PC graphics processors. The deal will include a royalty structure for Nvidia and will encompass other Sony consumer electronics products, the companies said. Further financial details were not disclosed.
"See that? This press release is dated Dec.2004, so logic would dictate that if Sony and Nvidia have been working on the chip for the past TWO years...that would make it 2002 right? HOW IS THIS LAST MINUTE? They started work on the GPU BEFORE the mighty ATI Xenon GPU.
I hope this clears it up for you and anyone else still believing MS's viral BS about the Cell and the RSX.

Absicca, let the console warriors have their war while I give you the real skinny.
-Number of exclusives is not relevant. People love to stack pure numbers but the real question is "which exclusives matter to you?" Having Halo or LBP on a console means fuck all if you're not into that. So look at the console exclusives and see which ones match your gaming personality better.
-Price is negligible. This is something people love to throw up as an advantage in both the defense and offense of any given system. Fact of the matter is, over the consoles lifespan, you'll be spending more than enough to make price difference look petty and silly. As an example, take a look at PS3 vs 360 and assume you buy 6-12 games a year. We'll also assume that half of those games were purchased at a discount price. We'll also exclude the bullshit additions like wireless routers and Live membership.
Xbox 360 with 60GB and an extra controller.
nine $60 games, nine $30 games.
Grand total... $1160
PS3 with 60GB and an extra controller.
nine $60 games, nine $30 games.
Grand Total... $1260
As you can see, the only place where the price complain becomes valid is in initial purchase. The longer you own the system, the less that gap remains relevant. So you have to ask yourself, is saving $100 worth the "what ifs" that will plague your decisions lifespan? This of course assumes you chose PS3 which could also not be valid. In essence, don't let price be a factor. Neither machine is cheap enough to let that be a factor.
-What console are your friends playing? Believe it or not, this is a HUUUUGE factor. As an example, most of my friends play PS3 so my multiplat choices go to PS3. They did when I had a 360 as well. If most of your friends play 360, that SHOULD be factored into your decision.
Anything outside of these points is 100% fantard bullshit.

Jebus, you do realize that none of that is relevant in the real world. Yes, the Cell is great at 3d imaging... But can't do it in real time while running a game.
Yes, the RAM in the PS3 is better than the 360's (I don't believe I argued against that, nor was it ever brought up), but the Cell can't make use of that high speed RAM- no chip in the world can. It's over kill, and useless.
The Cell is fantastic at computing complex code. It always has been, but can't chug through games nearly as well because a majority of that code is not complex, consisting mostly of long single strands which cannot be broken up. The reason the Cell can compute so physics and so on so fast is because physics code is made up of code that is very branched out, which can be broken down and processed at once.
The RSX was designed SPECIFICALLY for the 7800GTX 3 years ago. They just transplanted it into a new home. There is no more "designing" involved. It's a G70, and that's it. Fine, I was wrong, it wasn't a "last minute resort" (though it might as well be one), but that doesn't really matter. The end result is Sony got shafted, because they didn't "design" shit. They took the GPU from the the time's most powerful card and sold it to them. Sorry, but either way, it's not a good chip.'
Good job at "shooting me down", even though you really proved nothing other than stuff I already knew... You just don't seem to realize that there is more than just what you posted... The Cell can produce great 3d imaging... When there is nothing else being processed. The Cell is great at computations... When nothing else is being computed. The RAM is great... But of no use to the Cell, the RSX, or any current computer hardware.
So all in all, I really wasn't wrong about anything. Thanks for playing, Killjebus, but you'll always just be a fanboy.

@dagreatest: Gears of War? Really? That surprises me considering that Epic is a third party developer and that they make Unreal Engine 3 which is (allegedly) 360/PS3. I thought it was just the Wii that Epic, pardon the pun, liked to piss on.
Fortunately for me, most of those exclusives (on both systems) are ones I'm not really interested in. Bioshock, LittleBigPlanet (and Echochrome) are really about it. Gears of War and Uncharted, nothing I've seen about them so far has really grabbed my interest, but I wouldn't be surprised if I were swayed after actually playing them. I liked Ninja Gaiden 1 and God of War 1, but not enough that I'd be sore over missing out on their sequels. The others are ones that never really sounded like my kind of thing anyway. I'll probably end up making a choice based mainly on the systems/companies themselves. For a long while that had been 360, but lately I'm leaning more towards PS3 - I consider DPads important and always liked Sony's a lot better, the disc drive is supposed to be quieter (The Wii's is insanely loud. Particularly noticeable in FPSes) and certain things from Sony seem more pro-consumer like the lack of region coding (AIUI).
Well, that was a lot of information that probably nobody gives a crap about ;)

There really is no denying that the PS3 has been gaining a lot of steam as of late. I'm sure Amazon will have a good deal for the system, but there's no better deal than getting one for free.
You can win a PS3 (or Xbox 360, your choice) in this Stacker 2 contest going on. Right now there are less than 250 entrants so you have to like the odds... All you need to do is design a 6 Hour Power t-shirt online (which is surprisingly easy to do). Check out the contest details here: http://www.brickfish.com/Entertainment/Stacker2?tab=overview
Send me an e-mail if you enter and I'll definitely vote for your designs. I work with 6HP so let me know if you have any questions too. Good luck to all those entering.

Abscissa: to the people who say the 360 has a better game library than the PS3: What are the good 360 games that the PS3 doesn't have?
A whole bunch of games. the most noteworthy being Gears of War, Halo3, Ninja Gaiden II, and Mass Effect. BUT the other question you have to ask is "what are the PS3 games that the 360 doesn't have?". Again the answer is a whole bunch of games but the most noteworthy are Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, and Resistance.
(note that I only mentioned games that are currently available on the market)
Both consoles have great exclusives down the line too. The 360 has Fable 2, Halo Wars, Gears of War 2, and Banjo Kazooie while the PS3 has Killzon 2, Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, and God of War 3
Bioshock is also making it's way to the PS3 and although it's not official yet, I gaurantee you that the Mass Effect sequels will be multi-platform since EA owns the rights now...and if there's one thing everyone knows about EA it is the fact that they rarely (if ever) publish games for only ONE platform.
