Having celebrated his 45th birthday on Sunday (happy birthday!), Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima has again spoken on the trickiness of leaving the series despite his strong desire to get on with new ventures.
Speaking with Kikizo, Kojima likens his on-again, off-again relationship with the series' director's chair to that of famed Japanese anime director Hayao Miyazaki. "It's like when [he] says he is not going to do more [movies], and then always ends up doing [them]. I think I am kind of in a similar situation," said Kojima, adding, "I have ideas other than Metal Gear, and I want to go on to make other new games, but for political, business or technology reasons, there is always a time when I have to return."
Don't take that to mean "as director," though. "I would like to pass on the Metal Gear series to younger staff members, and then go on to produce the title, and not be so attached to it," he confided. Given his involvement as co-writer of MGS3 and co-writer / co-director of MGS4, Shuyo Murata – director of Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner – is currently tipped as Kojima's pick to take the reins of MGS5.

He'll be back .. Money talks and he'll soon realize Metal Gear is what he's known for. Other than that, he'll be flop at most everything else. There are the knob riders who'll eat whatever sh.it he throws out, but other than that, he's a one trick pony - Metal Gear (which isnt necessarily a bad thing).
Also Sony NEEDS another Metal Gear game. If #4 was it, now what? MG wars (ala Halo wars?). haha
Sony needs this next game. Sony is built on hype (4D, Dual 1080p HDMI ports, Full BC, etc etc).. So just the thought of another keeps the fanboys salivating.
play nice kiddies :)

The MGS4 ending was such a copout. There should be nothing left to set up MGS5, damnit.

PLEASE let Kojima work on something else. As Much as I love the MGS Series......3 and 4 IMO were still not as good as 1.
Its like if you eat the same cracker every day....you get tired of it.
Let KOJIMA take a break and work on a proper sequel to SNATCHER

Damn, I didn't know Hideo was 45. I'm going to be 30 in 2 days and he looks my age if not younger :(

Man i'm still playing trough for a second run here, don't start talking about MGS5 now. Really doesn't matter if he does come back, as long as the game continues to be good like it is now, thats all I want.

Wow, some people just have to hate in these columns huh? The MGS series is not done to death, the story was most certainly not bad in any way and the cinematics were, as was said, a part of Kojima's overall desire. Let the man do as he pleases, we owe him that much. Don't hate out loud, keep it bottled up.
