New Halo Wars unit goes 'pew, pew, pew' at flying enemies
Halo doesn't have a ton of airborne combat in it, but if you've ever been on the receiving end of a non-stop Banshee spawnkilling attack, you know how frustrating the skies can be. Thankfully, Halo Wars feels your pain and is introducing a new unit: the UNSC Wolverine.
It's armed with two anti-aircraft missile pods that can be lowered to target ground units as well, and it features a front-mounted heavy grenade launcher to take out "soft targets," like meat-shield infantry puppets. However, it looks like the thing is pretty vulnerable and will need plenty of ground support so it doesn't get blown to smithereens after it launches its first missile volley. We can't wait to see if they include this in the upcoming PAX demo. WOLVERINES!

At least we know Bungie can copy some vehicles for that new squad based halo game.
Highcharity @ Aug 25th 2008 8:45PM
Cmon Wheres our XBL demo?? I need me some Halo wars
Mitsuo @ Aug 25th 2008 8:55PM
so apparently this game isn't cannon since if it was we'd have this in the other halo games to fight the aircraft.
Titanium_Orchid @ Aug 25th 2008 9:01PM
If this game was cannon, you would need 100 spartans to win the game and 1000 infantry units to absorb bullets and drive warthogs in circles.
tidefan94 @ Aug 25th 2008 9:10PM
actually it still is, they are trying really hard to make this a "real" halo game, and will most likely make up some story why it isn't used anymore
Mitsuo @ Aug 25th 2008 10:28PM
@tide. Yeah the story would probably be, "the vehicle is too good and thus give the Spartans a advantage and thus has been taken out of commission"
Tiptup300 @ Aug 25th 2008 11:02PM
Too many resources are going towards the war effort, therefore this ultra-expensive vehicle can not be made since it doesn't have very good results in combat.

the wolverine production facilities were located on reach or some other human colony, and were glassed prior to the original halo trilogy.
most of the existing vehicles were also on reach, and destroyed by the covenant.
there, no moar wolverines.

i couldn't care less about this game anymore. Ensemble wore out there welcome when they announced a first-half of next year release date.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 25th 2008 9:27PM

theturtle363 @ Aug 25th 2008 9:10PM
that looks less like it would go "pew pew pew" and more "Poshoook Prkewww BRoooock"
GoldenS1104 @ Aug 26th 2008 12:46AM
That was insightful to say the least. +1 internet for you my good chum.
darthweder @ Aug 25th 2008 9:34PM
wow, you guys are about 6 months behind. I read this a while ago in one of my magazines
TheQuagster @ Aug 25th 2008 9:55PM
I don't know If I want, but I may create this vehicle in halo 1.
Curtis @ Aug 25th 2008 10:07PM
"new unit?" The anti-air missile unit was shown at least half a year ago.
Jimiisama @ Aug 26th 2008 2:00AM
Woot, Halo Wars! Because we all loves StarCraft 64 and Commond and Conquer for the PSX!
Snowblind @ Aug 26th 2008 7:37AM
Or how about BFME and Command and Conquer 3 on the 360, which both actually play rather well? The refinements being made for Halo Wars will pretty much make it perfect.
Of course, it'll never be as accurate as mouse/keyboard but that doesn't mean it won't be fun. And hey, this is the same thing people said about console FPS games a few years back.
Tim The Enchanter @ Aug 26th 2008 10:54AM
I liked StarCraft 64... my computer was busted, and this helped.
