PlayStation Home 100% guaranteed for 2008 release
... by Martijn Van der Meulen. To be fair, Van der Meulen is a producer on the Home project, who apparently assured IGN during Games Convention that the service would launch sometime this year. "Van der Meulen told me (without hesitation) that it is a 100 percent guarantee that Home will be released by the end of this calendar year. He has absolutely no doubt that this will be the case," IGN's Ryan Clements reports. Well, there you have it, just blame Van der Meulen when Sony rushes to get you all moved in later this year and, with the first step you take into your new Home, you fall right through the ... map.

Leatherhead does not approve of your message. He shall pinch you with lobsters.

lwelyk @ Aug 25th 2008 5:14PM
Bah, stupid comment system.
Killjebus @ Aug 25th 2008 5:49PM
Its...no NEW taxes.
343 Guilty Fart @ Aug 25th 2008 5:57PM
Pics or it didn't happen.
Duke @ Aug 25th 2008 5:57PM
Yeah, he's got ya there.
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 25th 2008 6:13PM
No Texas!? What, did Texas get invaded by Mexico?
j.howlett @ Aug 25th 2008 5:16PM
love that picture
Dustin @ Aug 25th 2008 5:18PM
This is the best news I've heard all day. Although... I don't know how much I'm going to believe in it. Home is reaching out and touching the la-la land of vaporware.
j.howlett @ Aug 25th 2008 5:38PM
how is it vaporware when people have access to use it? they are holding it back to work on it.
Rob @ Aug 25th 2008 10:59PM
@J.howlett:
Can any member of the public go into the store and buy the disk or get it from PSN?
If it's not out, it's vapor, it doesn't matter how much code or assets there are (cf DNF)
Ayrkain @ Aug 26th 2008 1:46AM
"Products with unspecified release dates or long development times that outwardly demonstrate regular, verifiable progress in production are not normally labeled vaporware."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
j.howlett @ Aug 26th 2008 3:34AM
@rob all i'm saying is there are people using it now even though it's a small amount. i've seen more of home than DNF. i'm not trying to sell you on the phantom or anything.
fyreblazer @ Aug 25th 2008 5:18PM
By the end of the year...meaning 12/31/2008 around 11 pm est.
Drew @ Aug 25th 2008 8:13PM
Oh no. Home WILL run on time.
Jonafun @ Aug 25th 2008 5:18PM
Is anyone really excited for this anyway? I mean, people don't really play Second Life anymore, right?
Mr Khan @ Aug 25th 2008 5:22PM
I don't know. Second Life lost all that praise and hype that was surrounding it when it was discovered that Linden Labs was badly overestimating the number of people who actually played
It's certainly less significant, but probably still very popular.
But home is a whole different idea. A more interactive UI, and the seamlessness of Home's transition from Home to media to game to whatever is what will make or break it in the end
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 25th 2008 5:23PM
I bet Samfish still plays Second Life...
Drew @ Aug 25th 2008 5:23PM
Is trolling really exciting anyway? I mean, people don't really give you credibility anymore, right?
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 25th 2008 5:40PM
@ Drew
He's not trolling.I know that troll-o-detector got a little dull ever since pure trolls either became mature or don't comment very often anymore but you've got to know the difference.
And yes, I'm not excited for this. Not because I don't have a PS3, but because I think it's as a pointless waste of Sony's resources and I don't see myself actively using Home.To me, a console is something that plays Video Games and not a place where you can "hang out".To quote somebody's comment from Joystiq, "If I wanted to play Second Life, I would've played Second Life.".
With Sony shamelessly delaying Home over and over again, even the toughest fanboys seem to be loosing hope...
samfish @ Aug 25th 2008 5:51PM
Well where else is a girl going to go to have sex with a panda bear man? Not Home, I can tell you that!
eugene @ Aug 25th 2008 5:54PM
I have nothing but morbid curiosity left when it comes to this.
[.sm0ke.] @ Aug 25th 2008 9:19PM
@ Mr Khan
Sort of like Microsoft Bob for PS3 then...
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 25th 2008 5:22PM
Yes, Sony has a lot of credibility when it comes to promising stuff.Especially when you remember two HDMI/Six USB controversy and their full backwards compatibility.
By the way, who's that Crocodile Man? I'm sure I saw him before...Captain Planet maybe...
Mr Khan @ Aug 25th 2008 5:24PM
That's bugging me too. It looks like Captain Planet, but i don't recall an anthropomorphic gator from that show. A rat-man (Verminous Scum), but not a gator
It could be from another DiC cartoon, though certainly not from a Hanna-Barbera one
Titanium_Orchid @ Aug 25th 2008 5:26PM
TMNT.
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 25th 2008 5:28PM
Quick google + broodwich tell me it's from TMNT but I've never watched the 1987 series. But why does he feel so familiar then?
Zertoss @ Aug 25th 2008 5:34PM
He's Leatherhead, children.
Why is he so familiar? Maybe because he was a boss in TMNT IV: Turtles in Time. You haven't played that, you say? Well why the hell not? Make that your homework.
BananaBoat @ Aug 25th 2008 5:41PM
He looks like a cartoony version of killer croc from Batman. It probably was TMNT though.
Batzarro @ Aug 25th 2008 5:57PM
My favorite boss in the Genesis version of TMNT. I'm imagining the music right now...
AirIntake @ Aug 25th 2008 6:16PM
I had Leatherhead's action figure back in 1989. If you opened his mouth too far, the top of his head & jaw would pop off, making him quite freakishly awesome. He talked with a Cajun accent on the show.
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 25th 2008 6:19PM
Ach, so nostalgic and oldskull it almost made me shed a tear.

Crocodile tears?
broodwich @ Aug 25th 2008 5:23PM
Leatherhead, awesome. Oh yeah, home is cool too I guess.
Shagittarius @ Aug 25th 2008 5:28PM
You guys been watching Cajun Chef reruns haven't you?
What I'm gonna did is remind you of the late 80s.
Metal_Gear @ Aug 25th 2008 5:32PM
QUICK! Everyone in the bomb shelters call all family and friends make sure they are safe, the apocalypse is comeing!
Its been a hard battle, but we will finally have Home in less than 3 and a bit months. ^_^
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 25th 2008 5:32PM
Sony should back that up, give us pitchforks and torches and a few bricks, so that if it doesn't release, we can go raid thier studios as mobs.
deaftly @ Aug 25th 2008 5:42PM
I call shenanigans only because I've never called a shenanigan before. shenanigan.
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 25th 2008 5:48PM
Don't you just hate that broken avatar system?
WiiFTW @ Aug 25th 2008 5:49PM
I call shenanigans on the claim that you've never called shenanigans before.
Mr Khan @ Aug 25th 2008 5:52PM
All i know of the avatar system is this:
JPEG is definitely supported
Bitmap is definitely not
Do not try to upload using Internet Explorer, because it will fail
I never explored some of the other formats, since most of my avatars are SWAT Kats screen-captures which started in a native bmp format, and had to be converted to jpg
Zertoss @ Aug 25th 2008 5:58PM
Why would you upload bitmaps to the internet in the first place? The internet HATES bitmaps!
WiiFTW @ Aug 25th 2008 6:13PM
SWAT Kats FUCK YEAH!

FOXHOUND @ Aug 26th 2008 7:18AM
I love that word "shenanigan"... It's like a poorly built car that runs on alcohol. Sort of like a wheelbarrow filled with booze.
BIGFAT @ Aug 25th 2008 5:48PM
My 3 cents
see it, to believe it.
That is all....
WiiFTW @ Aug 25th 2008 5:49PM
I call shenanigans on the claim that you've never called shenanigans before.
WiiFTW @ Aug 25th 2008 5:50PM
FUCKING COMMENT SYSTEM SUCKS!
BananaBoat @ Aug 25th 2008 5:50PM
I better be able to stuff and mount things in my home.
Nate @ Aug 25th 2008 5:56PM
Hell yeah! And Home will be good too.
