At least the fans are picking up the torch.

This series was one of the best. And one of the best features in this series was that you could "carry" you character over from the previous games. By the time I got through QfG 3 my guy was a Paladin.

And don't forget that you can still pick up the recently release King's Quest, Space Quest, Police, Quest, and LSL series on Amazon for $15-$20. While not complete, with every version of the game, it's better than nothing.

Fighting those damned alleys was why I never finished 2. I can finally fill in the gaps now.

Wasn't this already available in VGA as Hero's Quest II?

I don't think it was release as Hero's Quest 2. I am pretty sure that by the time QFG 2 came out the name was changed by the request of Games Workshop.

Fan remakes have been quashed by IP owners before. Remember Chrono Resurrection?

Gonna be hard to quash it now that it's in the wild. I hope this rekindles the Hero6 project.

However, Vivendi allows such remakes and sequels to be made which is the reason why a lot of the sierra games from the adventuring era are having an VGA update by fans. Vivendi allowed a fan made sequel of King's Quest called the silver lining to be created as long as the sequel does not bear the King's Quest name.

Fortunately this game has the blessing of Vivendi/Activision. So we don't have to worry about it getting squashed.

I'm holding out hope the popularity of this remake causes Vivendi to re-release the Quest for Glory games.

I downloaded it and started playing it last night, and it looks fantastic. I was relieved that whoever did the god awful promo artwork / poster evidently hadn't worked on the in-game art itself.

I forgot how annoying navigating through Shapeir can be, but I'm really looking forward to going through the rest of the game.

What an amazing game. This is one of the first RPGs I ever completed. The streets were really difficult to navigate until I figured out hot to use the paper map properly. Yep... a paper map to use in game. Oh the memories.

The remake has a "simplified" version of the alleyways to help alleviate any headaches from traveling around. I didn't try it the first time around, but now I think I will, lol.

By the way, there are script patches for the original Sierra games which had speed related bugs available at the Sierra Help Pages (plus some other crash fixes):

Half the fun was wandering around the streets, desperately looking for the money changer! In fact, in this version, doing just that led me to find something that wasn't in the original game!

What's really cool about this remake is that they've preserved the text parser option, so you can still hand type all the commands if you wish rather than use the new point-and-click interface (which is also an option).

From what I recalled, Vivendi does not mind if fans remake or create a spinoff from any sierra games as long as they can play it first to see if any stuff have to be modified(which I heard they haven't told AGD or the other fanmade group to change anything in the game other than removing a name in the title)

This remake IS simply amazing. The combat system is fantastic and the best of any of the QFG series. Plus there are so many extras. I recommend everyone to play it and also buy their original game Al Emmo as a show of support for these fine people who gave us this excellent remake and 2 KQ remakes totally free! :D
