Rumor: Kmart flyer shows Sept. 7 Xbox 360 price drop
An image showing up on several forums (including QJ.net and HighDefDigest) allegedly shows the Sept.7 Kmart flyer featuring the expected rumored Xbox 360 price cut. This latest ad comes a week after a Radio Shack flyer featured similar information.
If this Xbox 360 price cut plays out anything like the one from last month, we'll continue receiving a steady stream of retail ad and system confirmations without a word from Microsoft until the 11th hour. Expect another gallery post with all the retail information if that's what happens.

I still don't understand why MS continues to put in a WIRED controller and no HDD in the arcade. Does it affect the bottom line that much?
Nice prices on the other 2 systems though. We should see some spikes in sales...but how much? I hope it is significant enough to force Sony to slash off $50 on the 80GB and 160GB.
Fenix @ Aug 25th 2008 3:30PM

Arcade = Wirelesssssssssssss :)
The defunct Core sku............ = Wired
k?
Dirty @ Aug 25th 2008 3:34PM
It makes a good replacement for RROD outside of warranty.
I used the wired controller for my computer. Works nicely.
Duke @ Aug 25th 2008 3:34PM
Yup, its wireless:

"It makes a good replacement for RROD outside of warranty."
You lost me on that one.
Dirty @ Aug 25th 2008 3:48PM
My first xbox RROD on me before the new warranty and in a panic I went out and purchased an arcade and kept my hard drive and cables from the first one.
Duke @ Aug 25th 2008 4:08PM
I see, makes sense.
Killjebus @ Aug 25th 2008 4:24PM
Thanks Fenix, pardon my ignorance. Glad MS stopped with the wired controller.
Dragod @ Aug 25th 2008 5:14PM
I prefer Wired controllers. No need for batteries, it's cheaper, it weighs less, it responds slightly faster to my inputs (only milliseconds though), and I can use it on my PC without needing the wireless PC receiver.
I have 3 wireless, 2 wired, and a play and charge kit. I only use the wireless when I have 2+ friends over.
Raikage (GOLDEN Gun Of The Patriots) @ Aug 25th 2008 3:06PM
Sony, this is making it really hard... this is a pretty awesome deal...
I wish I could play my MGS and GTA Essential collections on the 40gb :( If that were so, I might not have any problem getting one...
But 60gb, BC for some of my Xbox games, a super intuitive online interface, and the system all of my friends have... at $300? That's a pretty good deal...
...Decisions...Decisions...
Thatoneguy64 @ Aug 25th 2008 3:19PM
Well, I think you answered your own question there.
Obviously you want the console all your friends own. Playing an online match is always tons better when played with friends than with random people.
XDragon @ Aug 25th 2008 4:07PM
In all fairness, the PS3 has a wireless controller and WiFi built in so it should be more expensive then a 360 because if you add WiFi to the 360, you get to the same price; never mind that the wireless 360 controller take batteries and you have to buy a rechargeable pack on top of it. The PS3 lets you play online for free but the 360's online is by far superior.
Its all about perspective and for those who don't need WiFi, non of this matters but lets at least keep things realistic. Its a balancing act because it appears the 360 costs less but it doesn't but if you don't need the things that make it even, then there’s some savings.
At the end of the day, you should be buying the system with the library of exclusive games you want. If all the games you want are multi platform, then go for the system that more of your friends have so you can play online with them.
Dragod @ Aug 25th 2008 5:16PM
I know what you mean. I already have a 360, but I'm thinking about getting a PS3. I only wanted the cheaper system, but I'd also like to buy the MGS Essentials collection to see what I've missed (as well as God of War and a few other titles). Either way, I'd end up spending about $100 more.
Mr Khan @ Aug 25th 2008 3:14PM
September already? Where does the time go?
but it'll be interesting to see what kind of impact it has on American 360 sales, which seem to have stagnated somewhat after they hit the much-vaunted 10 million mark. The big question is if they can break into the market that keeps floating Wii back at the top
Also: How 'bout that Venture Bros. season finale? w00t!
samfish @ Aug 25th 2008 3:26PM
Wasn't as awesome as Showdown At Cremation Creek, but it was still awesome.
Now I can't wait for season 4. All I know about it so far is Kevin Conroy is voicing a character and Brock is visiting some place that looks like the Batcave.
Metal Gear!? @ Aug 25th 2008 3:44PM
I love Venture Bros(my favorite show), but part 2 wasn't very good. Part 1 was so awesome. It seemed like they forced too many jokes in part 2, like Hank's Dawn comment. Very disappointed in part 2. At least they have only had about 4 episodes that weren't very good and they're already 3 seasons in.
How many times are we going to see price drops early without companies just giving it up. We know it's going to happen.
MC Double Def DP @ Aug 25th 2008 3:17PM
$199.99 is suppose to be the magical price. Let all the kiddies get that one so they don't have headsets to yell over XBL with.
Sidebuster @ Aug 25th 2008 3:19PM
The Arcade will make a good replacement for if and when my 360 dies (It keeps freezing but no red rings). All I would have to do is switch over the hdd and wireless adapter etc.
Dirty @ Aug 25th 2008 3:36PM
mine did that right before the disc drive took a crap.... I replaced it myself.
potato @ Aug 25th 2008 6:49PM
I've seen many boxes freeze but not red-ring... Mine did it for a while before it actually *did* RROD by itself. Wouldn't hurt to start using your 360 in an enclosed space, with lots of carpeting, and bad airflow... Just saying :)
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Aug 25th 2008 3:20PM
I'm waiting for the 60gb standalone HDD to finally slap into my Arcade, get me some demos and DLC!!! : (
princeofshapeir @ Aug 25th 2008 3:22PM
The Arcade never included a wired controller, it has ALWAYS been wireless. You are thinking about the discontinued Core SKU.
McWeen @ Aug 25th 2008 3:27PM
I heard the price dropped models have delicious caramel corn hidden inside. Unfortunately you must crack them open and void the warranty to get it :(
finaldarklord @ Aug 25th 2008 8:28PM
No, thats the Lincoln memorial. Its in his head.
Brandon @ Aug 25th 2008 3:28PM
The arcade should totally have a 20gb harddrive tacked on with the same price
or maybe a universal price cut on the harddrives or have the ability to just buy the harddrive shell and place your own hdd in it.
Damnit MS.. so many possibilities
princeofshapeir @ Aug 25th 2008 3:32PM
Brandon, the reason why that won't happen is because the Hard Drive is where most of MS' profit off of hardware sales comes from. I estimate it costs about $35-$45 to manufacture one of those 360 hard drives, I wouldn't be surprised if they are pocketing $50+ on the 60gb hdd and $150+ on the 120gb hdd
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Aug 25th 2008 3:36PM
Of course, the HDD prices for the 360 are absolutely ridiculous, and people call Sony evil......
Dirty @ Aug 25th 2008 3:37PM
Agreed those hard drives are WAAAYYY overpriced. I want a 120 but not at that price.
philmcphail @ Aug 25th 2008 6:27PM
Yeah, they should really consider lowering the price of the 120 hdd. I may have a 20 gig system, but I love it. I never really cared about the disc spinning noise and I got the hdmi model that hasn't and hopefully won't ever surprise me with 3 blinking red lights. I still don't get why they (Microsoft) would price it at $180 and still think its a good idea. :(
Alikar @ Aug 25th 2008 3:38PM
Now if they could just do the same thing with hard drives. No way in hell, am I paying 169.99 for a 120 gig hard drive.
samfish @ Aug 25th 2008 3:40PM
If they included a wireless controller with the arcade, I'd probably throw down just for Banjo...assuming the game gets decent reviews.
KingOfGods @ Aug 25th 2008 4:15PM
The Arcade does come with a wireless controller. The wired controller was in the core sku that has been discontinued.
samfish @ Aug 25th 2008 4:38PM
Interesting.
Well, I just put a bid on one at eBay, so wish me luck.
princeofshapeir @ Aug 25th 2008 3:47PM
Like I said before, the Arcade SKU has ALWAYS included the Wireless Controller. It was the Core SKU that didn't.
giantenemycrab @ Aug 25th 2008 3:58PM

Top Cat @ Aug 25th 2008 7:51PM
its the day before i go back to college. looks like we'll all be getting drunk!
maylon @ Aug 25th 2008 4:05PM
I really don't think Sony needs to lower their prices anymore for awhile, its already a great deal where its at and they are doing just fine.
XDragon @ Aug 25th 2008 4:14PM
You're right but there's more to it:
The PS3 includes WiFi, a Hard Drive and a recharagable wireless controller so it should cost more then a 360. The 360 is at least as expensive as a PS3 if you add on what the 360 dosen't come with not to mention the ability to play Blu-Ray.
I'm not knocking the 360 or glorifying the PS3, i'm just spelling it out because people see prices and they assume too much without really thinking.
Priyesh @ Aug 25th 2008 4:09PM
I just wish it had built-in wifi or something.. at least drop the price on the Wifi adapter! $99 is such a rip-off..
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Aug 25th 2008 4:47PM
If you have a WiFi enabled laptop, you can use that as a Wifi adaptor for the 360, just connect it to your 360 with an ethernet cable.
philmcphail @ Aug 25th 2008 6:48PM
@ NINJA
OMG REALLY??!?!? HOW?!?!?! POST A LINK (of instructions)
SoulBlade @ Aug 25th 2008 4:09PM
please please please buy our 360!
Duke @ Aug 25th 2008 4:58PM
Cause God knows they never sell anything that sells already. Hell, I got a flier from the supermarket and Diet Coke was on sale - must mean that Coca Cola is real desperate. :P
SoulBlade @ Aug 25th 2008 6:00PM
There's a difference between a sale and a price cut.
Spartacus @ Aug 25th 2008 10:45PM
Have you lived under a rock your whole life?
Electronics get cheaper as time goes by, plain and simple. If DVD players were still $400, then you could talk. As it stands, the 360 is way overdue for a price cut. It was the PS3 that got a premature price cut due to poor initial sales.
The Wii was overpriced to begin with and is overdue for a price cut as well, but I doubt we'll see that anytime soon (unless the $199 Arcade 360 starts to mess with Nintendo's casual market).
Rob Cannon @ Aug 25th 2008 4:11PM
None of the ads, so far, are mentioning the rumoured motion controller or the dashboard update. I guess that rumour is going nowhere. Darn!
patagonia @ Aug 25th 2008 4:13PM
Read the fine print: it's a limited time only sale with no rain checks. My guess this is just to clear out old inventory and isn't a real price drop.
princeofshapeir @ Aug 25th 2008 4:28PM
I think jerebear21 is right, this is limited quantities, probably in the ad because
A) they think its going to sell like crazy once this price drop occurs, especially with the upcoming holiday season
B) probably want the average joe to take notice and *think* that they won't be able to get a cheap 360 if they don't buy it quickly
samfish @ Aug 25th 2008 4:39PM
Most ads always say that, regardless of what system it is. I think it's a legal disclaimer thing so customers can't come in and say, "But your ad SAYS you have them AND YOU DON'T, GOD DAMNIT."
