Nintendo has affixed a timeline to the vague, yet sincere promise that games based on the company's "core" franchises are in development. "We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete these games, approximately two to three years," Nintendo stated in the October issue of Edge, as reported by Eurogamer. "These games are not ready to launch in early 2009 but are being worked on by all development teams." So sit back, twiddle some other thumbsticks, and let those other folk navigate the slopes for a while. Your turn's a comin'.

Apparently the Casual Pie that Nintendo's been eating is so good they forgot to attend Core's party.

Oh yeah, Nintendo's definitely struggling this generation for sure.

Like the same old Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Halo...
If you don't equate rehashed sequels with hardcore, then you've not ever played a video game.

Yes because halo is definality as old as Final Fantasy and Metal Gear. Nice attempt though.

Is a misleading interpretation. 2-3 years is just the development cycle for said games, but it is still a bit distressing that nothing big on the first party front will be seen until the latter half of 2009
That being said. I, personally (that's IMO, to keep the trolls from running out and discrediting the imminent list) will be satisfied with MadWorld, The Conduit, and Sonic and the Black Knight to keep me happy through the first half of 2009
To try to cultivate the idea that there will be nothing worthwhile until 2010 is totally misleading, and thus perfectly in line with Mr. Ransom-Wiley's recent conduct

Waaaaaah,
Fernandos and pals need their bottles and a nappy.
My question is...why does it take 2-3 years to make GameCube games? Should they not be able to develop for this nearly decade old hardware in their Mario pajamas by now?
Maybe, just maybe they did not think there would be that much of a backlash by the Nintendo loyalists and are now scrambling to develop Mario/Zelda #564.

Haha, oh man, you give yourself too much credit. Figured I'd come out of the woodwork to say this - you think you're clever, but your not. You keep on talking about how much 'stupidity' others spread, how much others 'baww' and yadda yadda, and it's true, I see a lot of it around here myself, especially from Nintendo defenders.
But you, you're the biggest offender, the sole reason I want this site to start using IP bans. Comments around here used to be a fun read - now, it's just a guessing game about when someone's gonna downvote a perfectly rational post because they're too much of a fanboy/hater to actually argue it or even comprehend it, or when some troll is gonna come out and state the same tired crap when their least favorite console is mentioned.

There's the HATE that I have been missing from you guys. Such hostility over NOTHING. I stated an opinion, nothing more. You don't like it fine, just don't bitch like a little girl and maybe I won't call you a bunch of whiney little babies.
Now, it's way past your bedtime kiddies...go to bed.
It's not MY fault you bought into Nintendo's hype over a repackaged GameCube and are now regretting it.
I tried to tell you this TWO YEARS ago that Nintendo does not care about the gamers that stuck with them thru 10+ years of futility.
Now, come with the HATE over NOTHING some more...if it makes you feel better. As for me, I fart in your general direction.

Ahahahahaha! Coming from you... oh I can't stand it, it's too damn funny. Weren't you the one who started with the personalized insults? Aren't you almost always the one who does? Oh boy, to hear you try and validate something you said by saying 'back off, it's my opinion'... oh man, you've got to be the biggest hypocrite I've seen on this site.
Oh damn! Your post gets even better than that! When you start pulling out the whole 'anyone who disagrees with me is obviously a ______ fanboy' schtick, I actually lol'd.
I just can't take you seriously anymore. (as if I could to begin with).

The title is very misleading. I already read this in other websites.
The title here suggest that those games are going to be available until 2010-2011, but thats not true. Developing of those games started just after the Wii was released, just browse thru Joystiq past threads. Even the new Zelda started just after Twilight Princess was announced.
Those games are going to be released in 09 holidays.
I also read today about Factor 5, and they are developing just one, but two Wii games, also for holiday 09.

End of 2009 is still a pretty long time to wait.
The hypothetical Factor 5 games are not really the issue, since those would be 3rd party games. I think the question is whether Nintendo itself is leaving its core audience hung out to dry... seems to be the case.
Besides, I'd consider Factor 5 to be on double-secret probation after Lair.

Had any of you been compelled to check the source rather than use what the blog author (who's posts I will now begin to filter out of my rss feed due to the fact that his reading comprehension skills are outta whack) said to fuel your unneeded hatefests, you'd know that Nintendo said that "we have core games being developed alongside the casual ones, but they'll take longer to make", rather than "you won't see the games for two or three years". Asking a troupe of trolls to actually know what they're talking about may be a bit too much to ask, I guess.

Now that you mention it, there is a lot of waiting going on with the wii now. How's that feel fernando? What's the next game we should wait for that will make the wii a competent game machine for once?
How's it feel now that the shoe's on the other foot?

true dat TMGE_Rock. I don't know if I'm gonna have any money left over for anything other than 360 games. I used to be all about the Wii but now the only thing I see coming out is Madworld and The Conduit. Sad.
Star Wars, Mirrors Edge, Prince of Persia, Dead Space, Fable 2, RE 5 in march, and many many more. God I love my 360 so glad I bought it.

couldn't agree more but you, and everyone else who feels burned, should've seen this coming before you bought into the hype.
from the start their marketing made it pretty clear what direction they were taking. and once it became obvious that they couldn't keep the Wii in stock an entire year after it's release (and still to this day) despite the absence of 'M' rated games and AAA titles like Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc Nintendo realized they don't have to rely those titles to stay afloat. their press conference at this year's E3 was a painful affirmation of that.
if you really want to send Nintendo a message trade in your Wii or at least remember this when their next console is released because they can't hear you or anyone like you right now. they're too busy swimming in gold coins.

I'm pretty sure you meant:
"Love, .5% of the gaming community a.k.a. Joystiq readers. Who also whine and complain about Wii spanking their asses because they actually are mad that one companies product leads another companies product that they like better."
Yep, that was it.
