Nintendo has affixed a timeline to the vague, yet sincere promise that games based on the company's "core" franchises are in development. "We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete these games, approximately two to three years," Nintendo stated in the October issue of Edge, as reported by Eurogamer. "These games are not ready to launch in early 2009 but are being worked on by all development teams." So sit back, twiddle some other thumbsticks, and let those other folk navigate the slopes for a while. Your turn's a comin'.

What difference does it make when they started work on them? What matters is when they actually release them.

The article makes it sound like the games aren't coming out until 2010-2011. The actual quote just says they won't be out in early 2009. Twisting that to say there won't be any substantial games from Nintendo for several years is pretty bad journalism.

It takes about 2-3 years to make a decent game at the most. What the hell are you people complaining about?
Oh right, I forgot, nobody knows a damn thing when all they can do is blindly assume that the Wii is killing the game industry because every casual game is selling millions, amirite

To be honest, this entire post has been stupid.
To the fanboys, I agree with you the wii can still do us right. Good games will come at some point and when that happens we'll be happy. But for now, the fact remains that even nintendo has admitted that they didn't provide what we wanted at E3. But they are hard at work making new Marios and Zeldas.
To the core (non fanboys), Again you raise a good point,we aren't being satisfied, that's why we go to other consoles (or even the wii's virtual console which is a great source of games), or handhelds. I myself am pissed at nintendo for not having something for my to drool over for the holiday season. At the same time I really am not going to go buy [insert FPS name here] for either the ps3 or 360 just because of the monotony of them. For those who watch zero punctuation we've come to a point where no one is winning on the consumer side of the console wars. So as much as the Fanboys are over protecting nintendo, remember that they have done several things right. I mean... look at the DS, the virtual console, even Wiiware is looking promicing. One can't say that they have done everything wrong because at this point none of the console makers have done everything right for their consoles.
Well I'm done my rant, thank you.

So by the time these games come out X-box 720 will have blu-ray and epic 8th generation games and PS3's true power will be used by almost every developer putting it in the same category as X-box 720.
And these games for core gamers will be still on the Wii?
They should just say fuck the core gamers and make a new console with a hard-drive and blu-ray and release the core games the same day as the new console.
Wii Sucks. Nintendo failed for their 3rd time.

Yeah they won the business side, so I guess celebrate it because that surely does something for the loyal fans right?
Fact is, they're losing the battle of making a competent game machine and releasing games that don't insult everyone's intelligence.

wow the only wii games i own are twilight princess (never beat it because hey, i'm not in a hurry to finish my wii games because im not anticipating another wii title for quite a while, no hurry!); and RE umbrella chronicles (havent finished for same reason), brawl (same as before), mario galaxy (same) and mario kart i never got because of all the other 360/ps3 games i have to play. this isn't a good trend for me nintendo, the others used to have to compete for my playtime :(

Vazquez the last time Nintendo won was in the nineties. N64 failed, Gamecube failed, and soon enough Wii will fail. The $199 Arcade will pwn Wii this fall. Its cheaper and it has casual games and motion controll. The games PS360 are dishing out are far better then anything Wii has to offer.
The only reason why Wii is selling a lot is because of infants and grandmas. That and its the cheapest console out their. Sells don't matter, just because Wii's sell doesn't mean it rocks.
Wii frickin sucks.

Wii fanboys confuse me. How can they stay so true to the Wii? They must channel out the number of games that will probably be great for the XBOX 360 coming out THIS holiday season, and instead name three games that will probably get scores that are in the 8's?

Here's the thing that keeps confusing me: I think Nintendo is blurring the lines too much between their 'core' audience and their 'hardcore' audience.
I've been diggin the Mario, Zelda, and Metroid games since I was a child but I think they need a new core-hardcore franchise for people like me who enjoy Nintendo games but also want some guts and rage in their games.
I'm actually really surprised that they haven't come up with a new franchise specifically created for interesting games with the motion controls. But definitely something violent.

I've been playing through 'No More Heroes' and it sounds exactly like the game your looking for.
Except that it really turned out to be nothing more than a shallow GTA clone with cursing and fountains of blood.
But still, if you want profanity and blood in an otherwise boring and lifeless copycat of a game, you could do worse than NMH.

Going through the Wii releases from now until the end of the year, there isn't a single game I'd buy that I couldn't get for the 360.
Just about every single one of their AAA releases (the ones that rise above the shovelware) will look better and were designed for the gamepad controls of the other two platforms.
Animal Crossing is the only title even worth mentioning, but ever since e3 can you *really* say with a straight face that it's for the "Core" gamer? It's minigame shovelware dressed up as 1st party title, with some half-assed multiplayer stitched in as lipservice to fans who have seen better back on the original X-Box.

Yeah, well I already sold my Wii, and at only a 70 dollar loss, thank god.
I've owned every Nintendo system (less the virtual abomination) available and have always love them. I STILL own a NES, and it works..not that I play it much. But the Wii, to me, has been a great dissapointment. Since I found one in Jan of '07 I bought 3 games.
The waggle is disspointing. The graphics are dissapointing. The lack of decent online is dissapointing. The fact that they're running mad on the equivelant of a high-school popularity contest is dissapointing. At least MS and Sony are attempting to cater to a more mature audience, with more adult themes.
People don't see it...it's just fucking fashion. The Wii is "hip"...and the games, that aren't a re-hash, are marginally more horrible that the stuff on the 360.
p.s. Nintendo, I own an R4 card and will never buy another DS game again.

Wait 2-3 years for a Nintendo-deemded core game to come out. Sure I guess. That leaves the 3rd party slackers no real excuse as to why their games aren't selling besides the fact that the majority of those games are dirt crap. C'mon 3rd party developers, lets see whatcha can do without your hunches!
