The only peripheral I have is a wiimote docking station - and I only have that because it was given to me for free... it has never been used.

I don't like the number of wii peripherals.
There's none that I really feel I need to have.

Though the wheel is quite comfy.

I have the Wii-Mote Charging Station, two Wheels, the balance board, the zapper, and a wireless gamecube controller.

I really couldn't see being without the charging station or the gamecube controller, without which I really wouldn't be able to play all the new Gamecube games I've picked up since I got the Wii (I never had the Gamecube) and I'd forever me searching for more AA batteries throughout the house to be able to use the Wii-Motes.

I never use the Wii-Mote jacket because it gets in the way of the charging station.

Is the classic controller really worth it? I've already got 3 Wavebirds, and that's what I use for most backwards compatibility unless the Wiimote sideways will do...

Yes, it is worth it. SNES and N64 games that are L or R button intensive (starfox is a good example) can be VERY aggravating due to how you have to press them down a huge amount before they actually "click"
The classic controller still has pressure sensitive L and R buttons, but you don't have to press them as far, so it's not as bad. Also the 2nd Z button is nice to have.
If you find the Classic controller at all uncomfortable, I totally recommend the Nyko 2 in 1 shell for it. It basically tricks it out into a PS2 style grip and also lets you attach the Wiimote to the controller, just to keep things organized.

I've found the Classic Controller to be unbeatable for most of the 16-bit-era emulators. SNES, Genesis, Neo-Geo. All play like a dream with it

Wiimote-on-side is just fine for NES, Master System, and TG16, but i feel that GC controller is the only thing that fits for the N64

yeah, I think so. Sometimes the A and B buttons are reversed in some old games (where you use B more often). This can get really annoying, and the X and Y buttons are in kind of awkward places. For $20, I thought it was a good buy

I think the classic controller is the only Wii peripheral worth buying, and that is just because of the Virtual Console. Many of my favorite retro games feel better with a classic controller than with a Wavebird... and even some new titles like Geometry Wars make good use of it.

That said, I love owning a Wavebird too. It's never used for actual Wii games, but does let me play the many GameCube titles I've picked up cheap since first buying my Wii. Currently playing Eternal Darkness for the first time, and it's an absolute blast!

Me personally I love the Hori arcade stick. It's very easy for my daughter to play numerous Virtual Console titles with and I enjoy it for all my virtual Turbo needs, heh, heh.

My 2 cents:
Every Wii owner MUST have an SD card and a copy of Twilight Princess for the Homebrew Channel.

Definitely, definitely, definitely the Wavebird. By far my favorite way to play Mario Kart and Smash Bros. And, y'know, Gamecube games. Has there ever been a reasonable explanation as to why Nintendo isn't still making these? It's not like the demand isn't there... mine are wearing out, I think!

I didn't think I'd need the Classic Controller, but the button-reversal thing did eventually convince me otherwise. If only I could use the Classic Controller to play my Gamecube Mega Man collection...

Periphs I can't own a Wii without would be -

Wavebird (never owned a GC so used games are building up and easy to get)

Zapper (HOTD 2+3, RE UC, Medal of Honor Multiplayer)

Guitar Hero Guitar (duh)

Classic controller - cheap, uncomfortable, hate it, avoid it at all costs, WORST.... DESIGN/ERGONOMICS.... EVER!

I would agree about the need for a classic controller. I'm tempted to get a GC controller to try out some GC games I never got around to trying, like V.Joe 1 & 2. A pair of Perfect Shots and some rail shooters are on my list to get eventually, but it's not essential. Just badass.

I've got a ton of Wiiquipment...
But... essentials?

Classic Controller + SD card. That's all.
I love my SD card. Where else would I put all my channels and VC games when I run outta' space? I would hate to download them all over again.
Not to mention, I have over 250 custom Brawl stages... where in the world would I put those?

Oh right! The Wii Wheel.

I CANNOT play Mario Kart without it... I'm one of 'em "WiiWheel 4EVA" players in Mario Kart. Love the Wii Wheel to bits.

--I also never NOT use a Zapper when games are "Zapper Compatible" (which just means that the games have a certain button setup), but I don't think it's ESSENTIAL.

I still love my Wavebird and have finally decided to get a second one for my wife. So much nicer than having an extended GC controller wire going across the rug. That said because I still play many GC games on my Wii.

I have yet to get a classic controller yet but anticipate doing so before the year is up, whenever they hit the shelves again.

And it sucks that they don't put them out anymore. I wanted a second one and had to order it off of friggin eBay.

I suppose my essential Wii equipment would have to be the SD card, Gamecube Memory Card, Gamecube controller (wired ¬_¬) and the upcoming Wii Motion Plus.

By the way, anybody know where I can get a Wavebird for a cheap price in sterling pounds?

Two Wiimotes, two nunchucks, two wavebirds, one classic controller (with nyko shell), one guitar hero shell, one nyko perfect shot, one Wii Wheel, and that's it for me.

There are quite a few peripherals to lug around. But I don't mind.

It's an utter tragedy. Have two Wavebirds, lost the receivers that plug into the cube. They've been rendered useless. I don't know how that happened, but DERNIT.

Other than that, 2 wheels, Zapper, Nyko Perfect shot.

Love the wheel!

1.rechargeable wiimote batteries = happy boy :)

the wiimote drinks batters you would of thought that nintendo would of made it rechargeable in the first place

2. wavebird/gamecube standard controller
wavebird for convenience and the standard for vibration

that's it really, sadly I am not into virtual console as I am poor xD but on the odd chance i play some classics the gamecube works fine

The only essentials are an SD card and a Classic Controller, the rest is nice to have, but doesn't complement the Wii experience in such a fundamental way

Also though, component cables.

The first time I fired up Super Mario Galaxy on a widescreen LCD with component cables in place of a standard TV with composite cables (which were then downgraded further through coax) I was in awe.

Gah! I forgot my component cables.

I first used them on Twilight Princess. It didn't look as good as I expected, but once Super Mario Galaxy came out they were like gold.

I have one extra Wiimote (I've been planning on getting more, but I blow my money on some silly "game" things), one extra Nunchuck (I've been planning on getting more, but I don't have Wiimotes for them), a Classic Controller, a GHIII Les Paul, a Wii Wheel, a Balance Board (is the bomb).

I'm just going to be upfront and say that I strayed from Nintendo last generation and got a PS2. I didn't like it. Before then, though, I was all Ninty all the time. Regardless, I own no Gamecube games and thus haven't shelled out the cash for a controller. I really want some GC games, as some of them are pure gems, but I don't ever see them in stores and, once again, I don't have a credit card.

I'll live. I play my Wii games enough as it is.

I forgot to add:

Component cables (I've had them since the beginning, so I forget about them all the time), an SD card (OVERPRICED rip-off at GameStop when the Wii came out), and rechargeable Duracells.

I have a gamecube controller from my gamecube for SSBB and mario kart. I also have a wiimote jacket on my remote, none on the wife's because she doesn't like it. Finally I have a nyko charging station for the two because batteries are teh suxors.

The most essential thing I have is the Nyko recharge station. I avoid anything that takes disposable batteries. Along those same lines, I love my corded Gamecube controller, it's still my favorite controller of all time.

I find the classic a bit uncomfortable and awkward, and for some reason just doesn't work as well as the SNES controller.

I really want that SNES add-on and white gamecube controller (with extra long cord) that they gave to Nintendo Club members in Japan.
