3D Realms: 'Several hours' of Duke Nukem Forever sort of done
Is that the sound of Satan sharpening his skates? According to a new interview with Team Xbox, 3D Realms boss George Broussard implies that – dare we say? – development of Duke Nukem Forever is going along swimmingly. You know, just like it has been since ... 1998.
All most kidding aside, Broussard tells the site that the developer has "several hours of fairly polished game to play," and that, "It's fun, it's in focus, we know what bits are fun and which are not, and it's just a matter of time now." But clearly, time moves a little slower in 3D Realms', er ... realm. Given that the company has already denied reports that it's coming this year, we'll have to make due with Duke Nuken 3D on XBLA "sometime in September." Of 2008. Really. Promise.

Can we see it?
XGM @ Aug 27th 2008 11:55PM
DNF is a lie.
Platinum_Skeet @ Aug 28th 2008 7:57PM
This games going to be so great it'll change your life!!!
[/sarcasm]
This games bound to fail. Any developer that takes more than 3 years to make a game (outside of Valve, Rockstar, and a few others) is going to fail...
green11420 @ Aug 27th 2008 10:37PM
Demo!
Edward Dean @ Aug 27th 2008 10:47PM
How does 3D Realms continue to fund this game? Where is the money coming from?
Patz @ Aug 27th 2008 11:23PM
That is the one thing I have always wondered about this damn game.
Fox318 @ Aug 28th 2008 12:08AM
Prey pretty much refunded this game.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Aug 28th 2008 1:54AM
They probably invested in the Wii.
Metal_Gear @ Aug 28th 2008 8:19AM
To be fair, from 1998-2006 they have just be buying drugs and beer... at least thats my theory.
CJLopez @ Aug 28th 2008 1:38PM
Remember there had been several Duke games and remakes for many consoles. There you have the funding. I can assure there are a lot of duke fans that buy anything with Duke nukem on the title
gir @ Aug 27th 2008 10:54PM
It took 10 years to make several hours of the game? Daaaamn!!! This game must be freaking good. I bet my eyes will pop out due to the unreal graphics and game play.
theturtle363 @ Aug 28th 2008 12:42AM
doesnt it run on UE2?
gir @ Aug 28th 2008 1:42AM
I'm not sure, but it better!
OMGOMG @ Aug 27th 2008 11:17PM
I'm friends on XBL with a guy who works with 3D Realms, and he hoped to get it out before the decade ended. Those guys have a sense of humor.
Oh, wait. He actually might have been serious.
theturtle363 @ Aug 28th 2008 12:41AM
well, at least this decade ends in a year and 5 months
Duke @ Aug 28th 2008 10:36AM
Just be patient, the game will be here in one decade or another.
Albanian_Killa @ Aug 27th 2008 11:19PM
I say don't take 10 years to waste a lot of money. 10 years can go down the drain. Too Human is proof of that. I hope though that this game will be good, if it ever comes out.
CJLopez @ Aug 28th 2008 1:42PM
Too Human didn't take 10 years of development
http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/08/25/dyack-on-10-years-of-too-human-misconception/
Or so they said
Tehman @ Aug 28th 2008 6:25AM
That's it... Time to rally up every freakin' game developer in the world over to 3D Realms
and have them all work constantly until the game is finally done and we don't have to deal with this game being vaporware anymore. Or just wait another decade so the next several hours are done. I hope their not really putting off the game too work on Duke Nukem 3D for XBLA and the Duke Nukem triolgy pack. Hooray for non- focused issue comment!
SugarDaddy @ Aug 28th 2008 9:41AM
Heh, the game is probably more successful as vaporware than if they actually release it as just another crap shooter.
PS36Wii Fanboy @ Aug 27th 2008 11:22PM
You know the abbreviation of Duke Nukem Forever is DNF.. Which means Did Not Finish right? Well either way, I want my Duke Nukem... He was the best damn player to have a gun ever! and have balls of steel too.... My opinion, Duke Nukem is the video game version of Chuck Norris.
KarlW @ Aug 27th 2008 11:27PM
Except he can step in turds. If Chuck did that, the chemical reaction would melt the planet.
mezzanine @ Aug 27th 2008 11:28PM
This bitch better be 50 hours...
Vidikron (FU) @ Aug 28th 2008 12:12AM
50 hours? OK, so if it took 10 years to get several hours, then we should only have to wait another 150 years or so to get a finished 50 hour campaign.
Drew @ Aug 28th 2008 12:36AM
It would take 2 years if Bethesda did it. 3D Realms couldn't be incompetent, could they?
Vcize @ Aug 28th 2008 10:39AM
A 50-hour FPS sounds like the worst thing in history. Even the best FPS games start to get stale after about 10 hours (I'm talking single player campaign here, of course).
Superstar90 @ Aug 27th 2008 11:31PM
Well obviously they spent all their time making that awesome trailer for the DS/PSP Duke Nukem Trilogy!
Blazur @ Aug 27th 2008 11:41PM
So what, are they averaging an hours worth of playable time per year?
Jtenma @ Aug 27th 2008 11:45PM
You know what would be funny...
If this ends up being the best damn action/fps title of whenever year this comes out, and blows everybody away...
And 3d Realms moon-walks in all the money they make off the game...
/LOL
mr mobius @ Aug 28th 2008 2:21PM
It'd be funnier if it absolutely sucked. If it was amazing then it could create a terrible trend of having extremely long development times.
XGM @ Aug 27th 2008 11:54PM
The game is too epic, it'll never be released due to the sheer amount of epicness witch has taken 10 years to build. In fact the game is now classed as a lethal weapon... and who am I kidding, I just hope ill be alive to play it, and that its good.
WiNG [Life in a Game] @ Aug 28th 2008 12:03AM
This could go either way:
NiGHTS 2 took ten years... garbage.
Team Fortress 2 took ten years... awesome.
Drew @ Aug 28th 2008 12:31AM
Too Human also took ten years and was garbage. AND IT BEGINS AGAIN!
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 29th 2008 8:05AM
...and I would once again remind that 75% is not a garbage game. Shut the fuck up.
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 29th 2008 8:43AM
...and while we at it, add Stalker and Prey to your list of games that turned out good.
Robobagins @ Aug 28th 2008 12:06AM
So how long till they scrap this version and redo it all over again? Seriously they could have released DNF and been on DNF4 by now.
DanB91 @ Aug 28th 2008 12:40AM
BWHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Aug 28th 2008 1:30AM
well i guess i'm going to church this Sunday. i can feel the apocalypse inching ever closer for some reason.....
mr bean @ Aug 28th 2008 1:44AM
At least it's destined never to become as frequent and repetitive as Halo, this game called...uh, uh,...Duke Scrotum, is it? Aw shit, I forgot his name...? Whatever.
Psaakyrn @ Aug 28th 2008 7:58AM
You know, 7 hours (well, less actually) of Portal was pretty fun. Could you just releast the 7 hours you already have? :p
Phantom @ Aug 28th 2008 8:50AM
well m actually several hours mean 3 .
j.howlett @ Aug 28th 2008 11:03AM
does this mean the phantom will release soon after?
ZippyDSMlee @ Aug 28th 2008 11:09AM
And before(to late I know) ye wee wankers start jitzing at the mouth, halo ep 3 has 8-10 hours of gameplay in SP mode, so what if a game that took 10 years to go only has a few hours as well, at least they are doing something other than mostly MP crap!
Batzarro @ Aug 28th 2008 12:55PM
Confirmed: More than one minute of gameplay per year it took to make.
