Discovered: 64-bit blood on the tracks
It's a shame to see someone ditching their Nintendo 64 on the railroad tracks next to broken dreams and two empty Sprite bottles, especially when there's 17 versions of Rock Band 2 to look forward to.

Did you at least grab it and pop in the definitive version of Mario Kart!?
bigD @ Aug 27th 2008 1:28AM
Probably not, since the super nintendo cartridge wouldn't fit in there. :)
Ridgecity @ Aug 27th 2008 3:04AM
Just testing Nintendo's famous quality hardware... hope it doesn't derail the thing...
Skaz @ Aug 27th 2008 4:01AM
@ Ridgecity
Nintendo reached the pinnacle of quality construction with the NES controllers. Damned things were nigh immortal. Things made afterward never really compared to those bricks of genius. The N64 controller on the other hand, may well have been the bottom of controller quality. I still have nightmares about loose analog sticks.
Foetoid @ Aug 27th 2008 5:35AM
You're joking right BigD? As if the Snes Mario Kart can compare. Yes it was good, the N64 one was better, by a significant margin. 4-Players and Battle Mode helped that along.
Snowblind @ Aug 27th 2008 6:34AM
Redundant argument anyway. The DS version is easily better than the others.
Shmil @ Aug 27th 2008 9:09AM
whoa whoa whoa, the pinnacle of nintendo sturdy hardware was the first gameboy now those things were indestructable

That's horrific. Someone should at least lay a sheet over it to spare us all the distressing sight.

You get a +1 for that comment.
You get 1000000 +1s for the pic.

While the image of a discarded console (especially an N64) is always saddening (especially when discarded with such callous). Is this really worthy of being front-page Joystiq news material?
Moffka @ Aug 27th 2008 12:31AM
Well, there isn't exactly a back page to Joystiq...
Red Leader @ Aug 27th 2008 2:49AM
I pretty much thought the same thing.
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Aug 27th 2008 3:26AM
Bravo, Moffka.
PROTIP: Joystiq is a blog, not a news site. They can post about anything, as long as it has a sliver of resemblence to video games.
Kizzle @ Aug 27th 2008 12:22AM
I hope that Rock Band 2 joke sticks around for a while, it's one of the few game-related ones that makes me laugh.
Haggard @ Aug 27th 2008 5:30AM
You say that now, but soon it'll be like the "two-wii's ductaped together" joke.
Now someone post a link to that relevant photoshop!
Kizzle @ Aug 27th 2008 12:24AM
Oh, and this reminds me of the time my friend went out into his backyard and found a jacket hanging on his fencepost. Inside, the jacket had blood on it. There was a plastic bag hanging on the post inside the jacket with an SNES in it. Oh, and there was a gun in the jacket pocket. Yeah, he didn't live in the best part of town.
Now accepting possible backstories for this scenario.

Is this the same N64 from the "Sega Saturn vs. Pretendo" commercial?

Ouch! for some emo reason this made me really sad.
I had a lot of memories with the N64, and now seeing it like that brings a tear to my eye. It's like seeing my child (if I had one) growing up
successfully, developed a drug abuse problem because of enemy corporations, and ending up a a junkie lost forever...
All those hours of playing "Shadows of the Empire" are the proudest moments a father can have (if I was a father of course).
All those hours playing
Tiptup300 @ Aug 27th 2008 12:54AM
Same here, except it was Duke Nukem 64, SSB, Bk, BT, DKR, DK64, yah know pretty much all the best games.
Solid Chief @ Aug 27th 2008 2:52AM
@Tiptup300
Super Mario 64, Mario kart, Goldeneye64 and Perfect Dark are not on that list aswell...
.*. Not a complete list of the best n64 games. You should hang yourself for forgetting them
Solid Chief @ Aug 27th 2008 2:57AM
I forgot Zelda games!(ocarina and Majora's mask too)
*hangs self
FOXHOUND @ Aug 27th 2008 7:55AM
SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE?
Remake Needed?
Yes, please!
Shmil @ Aug 27th 2008 9:22AM
remake of shadows would be great
I'm waiting for the eventual wii iteration of pilot wings
Jonah Falcon @ Aug 27th 2008 12:35AM
I never owned an N64, but did have an SNES, and it brings a tear to my eye. I never did that to my NES, ColecoVision or ADAM, or C64 or Amiga.
ice~ @ Aug 27th 2008 12:38AM
I found Madden 93 on my friends street, it almsot got hit by a car but I saved it, I looked up how much it was worth and lo and behold, it's worth $00.99!!!!!!! IM RICH$!!!!$$$!!
KeenCommander @ Aug 27th 2008 1:06AM
The amount it's worth in nostalgia is priceless.

SKooT @ Aug 27th 2008 12:43AM
I find it hilarious that the "zoom-in box" in the lower left only magnifies it, oh, about 1.75x.
Pas Bon @ Aug 27th 2008 12:43AM
ROTFL at the 17 Rock Band 2 mention! :D
Obie @ Aug 27th 2008 12:57AM
Ya know, a train could run over that sucker and it probably still work. I still have my original NES, it was used a doorstop and paperweight during my high school and college years. But when I came back that baby still worked. :)
Fish @ Aug 27th 2008 1:02AM
It probably requires the same arcane rituals and blood sacrifices to play Blaster Master as it did the day you left.
Obie @ Aug 27th 2008 1:12AM
Yeah dude, I forgot how hard as hell NES games were.
Passwords? Game saves? GTFO!
Jacksons @ Aug 27th 2008 1:03AM
Anyone ever pop open the analog module on a well-used N64 controller? It looks like you're hiding cocaine in it. Abysmal design on that analog stick, but still a fun system.
Foetoid @ Aug 27th 2008 8:11AM
I remember the utter plethora of 3rd Party N64 controllers and it always shocked me that noone made one with a PsOne analog stick.
LAZoftheTamarinds @ Aug 27th 2008 1:03AM
Looks like the Nintendo 64 kid has moved on to next-gen.
KeenCommander @ Aug 27th 2008 1:05AM
N64 = best system ever. I'm gonna kill that SOB when I catch him.
He or she could have just given it to me, I can always use a third 64...
neoalec @ Aug 27th 2008 1:09AM
N64 is the ghettoest console ever, the system most at home in a pawn shop window, so while I don't approve of disposing of perfectly good hardware, this photo seems somehow fitting for this system. I've never understood the rabid fanbase of this system (passions are probably amplified by feelings of being the underdog). Electing it the best system of all time on Filter on G4 was a farce, when there are so many more deserving systems with fans of more refined taste. Not that I hate the N64 or anything, there just aren't very many worthwhile games for it, and the popular ones aren't as great as people act like they are. Not enough to make up for the low number of games.
Obie @ Aug 27th 2008 1:13AM
Granted it was not the best Nintendo system.
But Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye are golden memories now...some of the best gaming I've ever had.
mattrob24 @ Aug 27th 2008 1:31AM
Well, I for one preferred the N64 to PS(u)X any day. Goldeneye, Super Mario 64, Turok the Dinosaur Hunter, Shadows of the Empire and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time were better games than any of the Playstation 1 games, except maybe Final Fantasy 7.
The PSX was the most overrated system EVER. Tomb Raider 1, 2 and 3?! Those games played like a$$. Resident Evil?! The crappiest camera angles and play mechanics ever in a game. And Crash Bandicoot was a poor man's Sonic.
TwEE @ Aug 27th 2008 2:19AM
Four control ports and games that use them.. thats the reason.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Aug 27th 2008 7:53AM
FFVII sucked ass. Loose your arrows...
mr bean @ Aug 27th 2008 1:27AM
Bet it still works! I still have my green version and play PERFECT DARK, GOLDENEYE, DK, etc etc on it once in a while. You can still tap ebay for mint boxed games. Just luv it!
Batzarro @ Aug 27th 2008 1:27AM
My cousin threw his Populous genesis cart out the door. I saw it join the earth...
Courtney @ Aug 27th 2008 1:48AM
I still remember reading the back of the Populous box for the first time: "Admit, you've always wanted to be a god...now you can."
Instant sale.
