Far Cry 3 probably sticking with African setting
Far Cry 2's Narrative Designer Patrick Redding informs VG247 that Ubisoft Montreal has started work on the next Far Cry game. He tells the site that Africa still has a "huge amount of promise" and there are still things they'd like to do with the setting, but he hedges it all by saying that the team is still in "preliminary stages" of development.
Redding expresses that the Far Cry 2 engine could be used to make other locales, but that to save time the team will probably build on the sequel's African setting. He wants to stick with the series' exotic settings, but feels that jungle islands aren't as exciting as when the original Far Cry released four years ago.

We don't even know if the Africa setting is awesome though until we play it. I just hope I can shoot elephants in the face.
Dirty @ Aug 27th 2008 2:40PM
that would have been hilarious if you utilized a dramatic pause. Eh hem.
I just hope I get to shoot elephants....... IN THE FACE!
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 27th 2008 2:56PM
I dunno about shooting elephants, why would you shoot an animal people ate trying to protect?
theturtle363 @ Aug 27th 2008 3:29PM
why not?
Hyams @ Aug 27th 2008 5:15PM
Because it's not an animal, it's an elaborate collection of polygons, and it's always fun to shoot elaborate collections polygons ... IN THE FACE!

I love when they release a sequel to an unreleased game... Doesn't seem like milking at all, no sirree
John @ Aug 27th 2008 2:08PM
I menat I love it when they announce... nevermind.
Pointz @ Aug 27th 2008 6:22PM
You cant sequel a sequel, the next is the third game. Spin-offs is udder tugging
Organic_Shadow @ Aug 27th 2008 2:15PM
You know I don't want to be pessimistic here but I can already see myself getting tired of the African setting. It's just too many shades of brown and yellow for me. At least Farcry and Crysis have the lush colorful settings.
How about the Crytek guys try to tackle different settings each game? I'd like to see:
-Alaska (snowy forest bits too)
-Brazil
-some place in eastern Asia
-a location that takes place primarily on and around mountains
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 27th 2008 2:32PM
Dude, Africa has as much of a varied landscape as it can get.Mountains, Savannahs, Jungles,Deserts, Beaches and Rainforests. They're all in Africa so it doesn't look like it's gonna be all "shades of brown and yellow".In fact, if the devs are half-smart they'll definitely mix the environments up.
The real problem is that Far Cry 2 is going to be Resident Evil 5 all over again.
RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACIIIIIIIIIIIISM!!!!
Mamba @ Aug 27th 2008 2:15PM
enough wit the jungle theme... FUCK
Ichi the One @ Aug 27th 2008 2:16PM
Always depressing when a game maker is talking about the next gen before the one they're working on now is even finished, but Far Cry 2 is looking pretty good IMO.
J.Goodwin @ Aug 27th 2008 2:31PM
Africa is the new lava level.
Jtenma @ Aug 27th 2008 2:40PM
Oh GOD LOL...you and me think alike.
There was always a hard ass lava level....
Yourself @ Aug 27th 2008 2:46PM
Yeah except lava monsters don't have activists demanding they at least be killed alongside ice monsters.
I would know, sigh...
joeybeast @ Aug 27th 2008 2:32PM
They are announcing expansion packs already!
Cool
BananaBoat @ Aug 27th 2008 2:38PM
You know, I've been wondering about this for some time...since the game is set in...you know..Africa...are the enemies...African? I can see the N'Gai Croal reaction now.
I just hope there aren't any aliens involved. Crysis really gets boring when the aliens arrive, and I'd hate for that to happen to Farcry 2.
LordChimp @ Aug 27th 2008 2:41PM
I hated that in the first Far Cry. The first half was amazing when you are fighting people but when those stupid monster things come out, retarded. Plus they were freakishly difficult even on normal.
Dirty @ Aug 27th 2008 2:43PM
I have not had an opportunity to play crysis, but the statement " Crysis really gets boring boring when the aliens arrive" makes me sad inside. That's just not the way it should work... I may never play it now.
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 27th 2008 2:49PM
This is commonly known as the "Everything is supposed to be moar awesome with Zombies!" syndrome.
See Halo or Uncharted.
J.Goodwin @ Aug 27th 2008 3:27PM
I always kind of felt like Metal Slug 3 started to fall apart when the zombies showed up.
theturtle363 @ Aug 27th 2008 3:31PM
im sure some of the enemies will be African but as far as I know the enemies will be mostly the mercenaries of corrupt African leaders and businesses. Oh and zombies?
BananaBoat @ Aug 27th 2008 4:06PM
The only fun zombies are the slow zombie hoards. Fast zombies are lame. Atleast, that's my view on the whole zombie genre.
Dead Rising is the pinnacle for me. A whole asston of zombies, all trying to eat my brains, inside a mall. Genius.
Also, weren't those creatures in Farcry 1 aliens? Or am I remembering wrong? I remember that I really hated Farcry when it went into those stupid underground tunnels with the fast little bastards all over the place. Headcrab syndrome at it's finest.
BananaBoat @ Aug 27th 2008 4:08PM
hordes*
Anticrawl @ Aug 27th 2008 4:35PM
Indeed, zombies don't run. Anything that is undead and running is not a zombie, it is something else.
LordChimp @ Aug 27th 2008 4:35PM
I do believe that in the first Far Cry that those were aliens or some sort of monster creation. I hated every moment of fighting those stupid things. Especially the big ones with the rockets.
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 27th 2008 2:58PM
Did Halo 3 start the trend of shooting stuff in Africa or something?
theturtle363 @ Aug 27th 2008 3:32PM
Shooting yeah, but i snapped some Kinshasa rebels in Splinter Cell Double Agent
Alex @ Aug 27th 2008 4:15PM
Halo 3 was in Africa?
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Aug 28th 2008 1:39AM
Sounds like someone's been getting the jungle fever.
Jomakalocoman @ Oct 19th 2008 11:26PM
Yes it was in africa.... thats where the massive thing that shoots that white light is.... it even shows africa in halo 2.... sorta tells you where halo 3 takes place.
tells you why johnson was still alive.. he had his african zulu buddies do a spell on him...
WOW i so want far cry 2....
