Meteos Wars to shower XBLA [update]
Q Entertainment is bringing an utterly unstylistic version of its two-times-released (well, maybe we shouldn't count the Disnied version) DS puzzler, Meteos, to Xbox Live Arcade. Dubbed, Meteos Wars, the console port will include a new multiplayer experience. The game will feature a two-player versus mode where each player has a gauge that fills as sets of blocks are launched and enemy attacks are thwarted. Filling the gauge unlocks a special attack that predictably spells disaster for the opposing player.
Meteos Wars will also include a few added extras, like customizable characters. It's due in Japan this October, but has yet to be confirmed for release elsewhere. Wouldn't this be the perfect tie-on for that rumored motion controller...? (We're just sayin'.)
Update: Q Entertainment just shot us word confirming Meteos Wars for US release in October, priced at 800
($10). Check out first screenshots of the game in our gallery below.

Wait, how do you play a touch screen game... on an XBox?
deaftly @ Aug 28th 2008 9:42AM
By touching yourself instead
dark_inchworm @ Aug 28th 2008 11:12AM
Throw your controller at the TV. That's how.
Come on, you got used to it in the good old days.
yomachaser @ Aug 27th 2008 8:37PM
Meteos without touchscreen just makes no sense. Without the touch it's a more basic puzzler than bejeweled.
aMac @ Aug 27th 2008 8:50PM
Right. There's no way you'll be able to match the frantic pace of the DS version with anything less a touchscreen.
Heck, even the Wii couldn't pull it off exactly right because it requires a level of finesse and responsiveness not capable with the wiimote as a pointer, but it -would- be able to give a much better experience than trying to play it on a regular controller.
Brym @ Aug 28th 2008 11:12AM
I actually think that it could work pretty well with the two-joystick control scheme used by Poker Smash. What you'd lose in speed without the touch screen you'd gain in precision. Those blocks were so tiny I grabbed the wrong one all the time.

What are you idiots doing here? There's a uniformed political battle going on RIGHT NOW!
yomachaser @ Aug 27th 2008 8:55PM
Whaaaa?
Hafk @ Aug 27th 2008 9:17PM
Wow, come on, make a sequel on the DS already! Disney doesn't count!
Japan already has another Meteos game, and if this doesn't fly over the ocean, it will be two. Meteos Online (PC) never got released over here.
Seriously, Meteos 2 on the DS with Nintendo Wi-Fi functionality. Thats all I want. I want to take the Meteos experience online, with the awesome control that made Meteos so much fun.
Oh, and no horizontal movement! That killed the Disney game, (along with the whole disney name)
Eleniel @ Aug 28th 2008 2:32PM
Agreed, Meteos with Wifi on the DS would rule. I love that game.
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Aug 28th 2008 12:34AM
Meteos Online shut down back in November 2007. :(
VaultICEE @ Aug 27th 2008 9:37PM
I really hope they do this right.
I've been wanting to try Meteos for a long time, but I guess I'm too lazy to pick it up for my DS Phat.
J.Goodwin @ Aug 27th 2008 10:12PM
You're not just saying, you're just babbling. (I'm just sayin').
Meteos isn't significantly different from Gunpey and that was on both PSP and DS. You don't have to have a stylus to control this game.
Phil @ Aug 27th 2008 10:18PM
Have you played Meteos?
You need some form of control of the blocks and you need DRAGGING controls, either with a controller in which you can aim with the screen or a stylus to drag and drop with.
Phil @ Aug 27th 2008 10:17PM
What the fuck?
God DAMN it Tetsuya, I can understand Lumines and Every Extend on XBLA, BUT NOT METEOS. PUT IT ON WII WARE YOU BASTARDS.
Nintendo's lost so many third party shit, aside from say Natsume and a couple RPG's, LEAVE METEOS WITH NINTENDO.
I'm REALLY sick and tired for great titles traveling to other availability. I don't mean to be a fanboy, but you CANNOT play meteos at the proper level of speed and excitement without SOME form of full control over the blocks.
Exo @ Aug 28th 2008 1:11AM
the game has already been on pc and cell phones you are a bit late with your rant. like more then a year late
Blue_Falcon @ Aug 27th 2008 10:24PM
I bought the original Meteos the first time around, and I'm more than willing to do it again. I'm surprised this isn't a WiiWare release though. I would think that using the Wii Remote to act as the stylus would make more sense than using the standard puzzler method. Though, I did hear the cell phone version of Meteos was really good. That, and I have enough faith in Q? that they'll get it right.
carterman @ Aug 27th 2008 10:38PM
I'll definitely play the trial on this one first, because I don't see the game being very good without the touchscreen. But we'll see.
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Aug 28th 2008 12:35AM
Echoing the sentiments that Meteos without touchscreen controls seem... wrong.
Still, I'll give it a shot when it comes out.
Seroth @ Aug 28th 2008 2:19AM
I can see this working without a touchscreen. Just hold down the A-button on an icon, then drag it in a direction with the analog stick.
Sure, maybe it won't be as fast as the DS game, but I think it can still be fun. Hell, I play ZooKeeper (basically a DS version of Bejeweled) with just the d-pad and the A-button, even though stylus controls are faster.
I'll probably end up buying this game.
deaftly @ Aug 28th 2008 9:43AM
Sweet, this was the first DS game I bought after getting rid of my psp.
