Nintendo has politely informed GamesIndustry.biz that claims of a new DS -- one equipped with twice as many touch screens -- fall under the nebulous and frenziedly debated category of "rumors and speculation." The story initially originated on Kotaku, which suggested that the new DS model would not be announced until early next year. More likely, you can expect to hear about it the day after Nintendo UK's David Yarnton pretends he's never heard of it.Nintendo deems new DS 'rumor and speculation'

No reason for a new DS yet. The DS is still the best selling system every month, worldwide and by a very huge difference.
And there are a lot of games still coming. Almost every week a new RPG is announced for the system.
The DS still can sell extremely well until holiday 09. And the DS 2.0 ideal date would be holiday 2010.

Fernando is right, considering DQ9 and Kingdom Hearts DS have yet to be released in Japan, they will take a long time to come here. So why would Nintendo release a new handheld next holiday, when its around that time when 2 megaton RPGs come out in US? (If it takes around a year for localization)
Also, they still have to get the 2nd and 3rd Professor Layton games here :P

Well I remember the first Far Cry and it was awesome. i just hope this one can live up to the same standards. Since this game is so successful, why don't they move it on to mobile gaming? I know there's some really cool phones out there like the Motorokr which has awesome graphics, full HTML browser, and Java. I think it's possible.

I'd vote for better battery and better grip.
Internal memory + R4 preinstalled would also not harm ^_^

you can't take the GBA slot out. it would render one of the top selling games useless. Remember Guitar Hero.

The DS is a good system right now, and good games keep coming out for it.
I don't want to see a new system until I have played Metroid Dread :P
