Quartermann: Rockstar making Max Payne 3 internally

Of all of the people who make crap up on the internet, the enigmatic EGM rumormonger Quartermann seems to be the most accurate. This could be because Quartermann is just an amalgamation of different EGM editors and they hear some fairly juicy stuff in their day-to-day, like (for example) the rumor that the same Rockstar team that made The Warriors is busy toiling on Max Payne 3, presumably to cash in on the upcoming movie.

With original devs Remedy hard at work on Alan Wake and Rockstar Toronto not working on anything that we know of, it would seem to add up. In a more nebulous vein, Quartermann also says that Rockstar North, the team behind GTA IV, is hard at work on a PS3 exclusive. You'll know if this rumor is ever confirmed, however, when you see PS3 fanboys with an otherworldly glow and floating a few inches off the ground as a choir of angels sings in the background. Also, 360 fanboys will start throwing themselves off buildings, Happening-style.

I thought they had that Noir game for PS3 only.

You know, the one we haven't heard anything about for more than a year. Seems like everything that's a PS3 exclusive just disappears into a black hole and never releases. How MGS4 managed to escape it's deathly gravity is beyond me.

I haven't played the first two...But what I did notice from screenshots is that it always has topnotch graphics.

Would anyone recommend me hunting them down and buying?

Yeah, definatly pick up the first one at gamestop or something. They have it for like $5 or something like that. It's probably one of the best games I've played in a long time with a top notch story. The second one was pretty good, but not quite as good as the first. If you do get it, make sure to stop and watch/listen to the tv shows that are littered around, they've got some pretty interesting dialogue.

That's a tough call. I think the story was great and the THIRD person view was always a nice touch in a FIRST person view dominated world (PC gaming).

I don't know how big of a deal the "bullet time" will be to you now (it was new back then) and whether or not the comic book style story (again, new'ish then, been done many times by now) will appeal to you but overall, Max Payne was one of those games I always suggested everyone played.

Oooh! PS3 exclusive! This should be interesting honestly, to see if they actually keep it exclusive and don't pull a GTA IV though.

Looking forward to Max Payne man, hell, I'm looking forward to the movie (thank god it's Whalberg, hopefully he pulls a Departed act).

Rockstar and the word Exclusive don’t mix. I know PS3 fanboys are now hyped but believe when Rockstar says exclusive it usually means for a while.

GTA Stories never reminded exclusive to the PSP.

So the PS3 has an exclusive. Big deal. Iti sn't as if there wasn't a ton of games out there.

I've managed to survive without playing MGS4, I'll survive without LPB and I'm sure I'll do just fine without playing this exclusive that will probably come out in 2010(given that Sony enjoys having 2-3 year of hype building on most titles).

Midnight Club LA has been done for a couple months. They delayed publishing it so that it wouldn't have to compete with GTA IV.

I remember seeing some videos of future games on the PS3 before it's launch. One of them was a western looking game from Rockstar. Maybe something from the Dead Red Revolver series they acquired awhile back? That could be the PS3 exclusive.

When MS announced that GTA4 will arrive day and date on the 360 with the PS3 version (E306) Jack Trentton was interviewed and among the questions he was asked how he felt about MS getting GTA4. He said that Rockstar wanted to really see what the PS3 could do so he announced that Rockstar was working on a PS3 exclusive that is NOT LA Noire or the Western title.

Rockstar specifically said that they want to build a game for the PS3 from the ground up without limitations of porting to the 360. That is why Sony did not show that they cared to much about the loss of GTA to the 360.

Why does noone remember this including Joystiq staff?

I remember reading EGM way back in '01, and always, 3/4's of Quartermann's predictions were correct. I want an archive of all his rumors and see which ones came true and which didn't.

The post says that Rockstar Toronto (who made The Warriors) is presumably working on Max Payne 3, and that Rockstar North is doing a - yet unknown - PS3 exclusive. So there's no confirmation at all that MP3 will be available for the PS3 only (and I'd doubt that anyway).
