Warhawk update 1.5 live; adds Trophies, custom music support

We've just installed the patch and are firing up a match with Hanson's "MMMBop" on full blast! Sure, the update's no new-map-and-rocket-packs gala like the upcoming Fallen Star booster pack – which hits tomorrow – but it's nevertheless another nice show of free support for a still very popular, ever-expanding game.

But we knew that already? :S Well....I did anyway.
*Swtiches on PS3 to get addicted to warhawk again while listening to the prodigy :D*

you's a firestarter!
Jevanzz @ Aug 27th 2008 4:29PM
A great big fire-starter!
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 27th 2008 4:31PM
Naw, I iz an epic firestarter :)
phinn @ Aug 27th 2008 4:44PM
Warhawk 1.50 wewt! Tons of trophies, they are gonna be hard to get. It's cool they finally addeda damn tutorial. Game woulda been reviewed a lot better from it's release if it had some of this stuff... I wish the jetpacks were free though. The expansion bundle looks great though.
baronator123 @ Aug 28th 2008 12:44PM
does anyone know what the mystery trophies are? names and descriptions if ya can please. thnx
Agathos @ Aug 27th 2008 3:13PM
So did this add the tutorial maps?
Man I enjoyed this game quite a bit for several months after launch, glad to see the updates and I'm anxious to get home and get back in.
This was one of the first fully MP games that I really enjoyed, and lead me to TF2 on PC which I'm hooked on now.
Do yourself a favor even if you aren't into MP games and at least try this out.
phinn @ Aug 27th 2008 6:45PM
Yes, it added the tutorials, and they are well done to get any nub into the game.
Dravean @ Aug 27th 2008 3:19PM
I am new PS3 owner. Should I be interested in warhawk?
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 27th 2008 3:20PM
Yes, you should.And I'm not even a PS3-owner.
Agathos @ Aug 27th 2008 3:29PM
Not sure if there's a demo available... but this is at least at a budget price now.
So I remember my initial impressions playing this were first that the graphics look really great in motion (the screens I had seen leading up to release hadn't impressed) and wow the sound is the best I've heard.
I was not previously a big Multiplayer gamer but ended up w this due to some Best Buy credit, I ended up really liking it and I would imagine that would be even more so if another of my PS3 friends had it.
I aslo remember quickly deciding that there was no reason not to play ranked matches all the time (something I was afraid of at first), and even though there were some rounds here and there where I just couldn't hit a stride and was getting killed before getting at least a kill in myself it was definitely a lot of fun.
I think I like others was stuck in viewing all Multiplayer games as stuck in the 90's where memorizing a map or getting into one key position would let you or your team rule the battlefield. That's just not the case nowadays, most MP maps and especially games like this that are only MP are built and tweaked to where yeah experience and skill will help but there's no way to just dominate a map unchallenged anymore.
uhh, maybe some of those points are helpfull...
Nate @ Aug 27th 2008 3:48PM
yeah, definitely. One of the things I love the most about warhawk is the fact that they have fighter-only servers, so you start and stay in the warhawks (the plans) the whole time. It's a hell of a lot of fun, and very different from the usual FPS-ing.
That being said, there's also the usual FPS to get into, with vehicles and emplaced weapons etc. Hell of a lot of fun, even if I do suck up a storm (I just can't get used to using an analog stick to aim).
As others have said, I think there's a lot more variety here than in Halo or COD, but those are both top notch FPS games in their own rights, so I wouldn't say one or the other is better than the other. Just different.
jaredgood1 @ Aug 27th 2008 4:21PM
Depending on your tastes, it's absolutely worth it. At a minimum, it's worth renting the disc to see if you like it.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread) @ Aug 27th 2008 4:47PM
dude go for it.
my friend bought it when it came out. i played it at his house and ended up stopping to EBGames on my way home that night to get it. my crappy internet unfortunately cant handle it but there are also LAN party features which are fantastic. me and 7 friends, 2 rooms, 2 PS3's, 2 HDTV's, complete fun.
its on Greatest Hits now too so it should be pretty affordable. if not, you could always try eBay or something. either way, buy it, NOW.
ANTCEP @ Aug 27th 2008 3:16PM
don't stop me now + warhawk = :)
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 27th 2008 3:29PM
"Don't stop me now" would sound awesome even with Tetris.
xGeneral DEATHx @ Aug 27th 2008 4:10PM
Everytime I hear that song, I still see Simon Pegg and company beating the zombified bartender with pool sticks.

Warhawk = kill them all fast!
gir @ Aug 27th 2008 3:24PM
Is this better than COD4?
RemzVkru @ Aug 27th 2008 3:31PM
It's a matter of opinion really. I would say yes cause it's more diverse and way more fun!! It does have a steep learning curve and it requires a lot of dedication in order to reach the general rank. I have just hit 500 hours of play and i'm still a few ranks away from general. I'd say give it a try cause it can get very addicting.
Kodros @ Aug 27th 2008 3:41PM
Yeah, it really depends. I can say for a fact that there's more "Holy shit" moments and there's a greater variety of things you can do each match.
Player1 @ Aug 27th 2008 3:45PM
Well when you are on foot it's very different from COD4 because it's so clumsy. When you get into melee fights, you will literally run around each other in circles in a manner that would make a custom soundtrack of yakety sax appropriate. But the scale of the fights, and different weapons/vehicles make it fun.
AmericanNinja @ Aug 27th 2008 3:52PM
100% way better.
JoeTheBlow @ Aug 27th 2008 4:24PM
In my opinion, no.
Its a lot more complex, with multiple vehicles, a jet that turns into a hover-gunship at the press of a button, and a LOT more players.
It can be chaos, and you get thrown in the deep end (though best to create a server so you can practise on your own for a bit), so its certainly not pick up and play.
If you put in the time to learn it though, or wait for the tutorial patch, or watch all the tutorial vids available......it'll last for years.
Agathos @ Aug 27th 2008 3:31PM
No, but still good, and different, and at a bit cheaper price w more content available now.
MatthewRex @ Aug 27th 2008 3:58PM
I love this game! I haven't played in a while, but with the new patch and expansion tomorrow I think I'll be rocking some Warhawk until Mercs 2 on Sunday!
Cerberus @ Aug 27th 2008 3:59PM
Why are the developers even supporting this crapfest of a game?
loungemonkey @ Aug 27th 2008 4:04PM
Well that is a stupid comment.
Hyams @ Aug 27th 2008 4:30PM
Because it's not a crapfest, but actually a really good game?
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 27th 2008 4:33PM
Thats coming from a guy who thinks he is a demon dog of the underworld
glafflin @ Aug 27th 2008 6:07PM
I agree somewhat, i dont think the game is crap but its not on the same level as COD4 and other top titles. I can understand why someone would not like it since its a steep learning curve. you know not all of us have time for steep learning curve, we have lifes
JoeTheBlow @ Aug 27th 2008 4:18PM
*scans hard drive for that "Flying through the Danger Zone" song*
Wheres that Top Gun soundtrack as well.

Albanian_Killa @ Aug 27th 2008 4:56PM
Very amazing update. I love Warhawk. In fact, it's my number one favourite online game right now (soon to be replaced by SOCOM: Confrontation though). The Trophies are so great. I was playing, I planted an air mine. 5 minutes later, I'm riding my Warhawk peacefully, and me, thinking I'm all good, hits that very same air mine. What are the chances, huh? Well, guess what, I got a Trophy saying I'm "Reckless" :D Very well implemented. If I had seen this Trophy before, I would have killed myself on purpose, but this is the real magic right here. I was so mad, but when the Trophy icon popped up, I burst into laughter.
Oh, and I love the description for the Platinum Trophy: All your base trophies are belong to Platinum.
yayoyayo @ Aug 27th 2008 5:07PM
Hope they bring trophy support to mgs4
ascian @ Aug 27th 2008 6:03PM
Sony desperately need to make their music sorting better on the PS3. Like an idiot, I put 70 gig of mp3 on my PS3 (320 gig HDD) and it's a nightmare. Scrolling takes forever, it doesn't support folder level sorting, so finding what you want is a pain, you a can't skip by letter, and mostannoyingly if you take 10 minutes to scroll down to R, you have to scroll all the way back up to the top for playback controls? WTF?! makes any music playing useless, especially when you're already playing a game.
what's worse, it's not in 1 main folder and i can't just delete all the mp3 and start over with a smaller selection. this really needs to be addressed and i thought it would be by now with XMB music support having been out for some time now.
other than that, the patch is great!
Pointz @ Aug 27th 2008 6:31PM
Why don't you press square to sort the folders by the artist or the letter the song starts with? Or do you not have that option.
Hyams @ Aug 27th 2008 6:37PM
Yeah, just press the Square button and it'll automatically file your songs by various criteria (alphabetical order, or by date, or by artist, or by album, if my memory serves).
I also don't get what you mean by having to scroll up to access the playback controls. I've never had to do anything like that.
ascian @ Aug 28th 2008 1:35PM
Gosh, I never would have thought to sort by different criteria like that! Man, what was I thinking?! [/sarcasm] As if artist and god forbid albums isn't just as bad or worse? Seriously, that doesn't address any of the issues that I have with the music system. As for playback control, I suppose that you could choose a different main category (i.e. video, games, e tc) and move back, but why can't I just hit select or something to bring up play, pause and other controls?
Anyways you slice it, it's too much content too quickly to be navigated efficiently in the current format. At least let me start from the end of the alphabet. Or delete all content in the category at one time, so I can use smaller portions of music rather than my entire selection. I would still kill a man for folder level support, just seems like common sense to me.
This is of course, just my opinion, which means that it is utterly and undeniably 100% correct and anyone who disagrees or finds it lacking is mentally incompetent on at least one level.
DavyNix @ Aug 28th 2008 11:26AM
The COD:4 devs could take a serious lesson from these guys. I’m a big fan of COD but after hearing confirmation that there are no plans to add any extra DLC (bearing mind this is the "Game Of The Year") I felt pretty ripped off. Warhawk has kept fresh because of the mixture of free and chargeable content, IW - are you listening to me!?!
baronator123 @ Aug 28th 2008 12:32PM
anyone know any of the mystery trophies gos i know 2 whats that green light? - get killed by the binocular airstrike while in a warhawk and daredevil - fall 100ft in a vehicle (no carrier ship)
