Itagaki: Easier to develop for PS3 than Famicom
Can we make a formal request? Can Sony hire Itagaki to take Ken Kutaragi's old job? No, we know, Kaz technically has his old position, but Sony really needs someone out there saying crazy things about the PS3, and we think Itagaki's the man for the gig. Here's what he recently told 1UP: "I don't think that developing for the PS3 is hard at all. It was much harder developing for the Famicom. It's true. I mean, give someone who's developing for the PS3 a Famicom and see if they can make a game for it. They won't be able to. Yeah, that'll prove it. We'll bet a drink on it."Bam! Crazy! Can you imagine getting that kind of stuff day in and day out from PS3 HQ? C'mon, Sony give that man whatever he wants ... and we do mean whatever.

What a turn coat....
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Aug 28th 2008 4:57PM
I was kind of hoping that when he left Team Ninja, that he'd kind of, hopefully, would not make games anymore.
So, aside from being a turncoat (I do think I remember previously talking down about the PS3), he's also a terrible, terrible video game designer.
Confirmed for PS3: Another game with an atrocious camera and awful controls. But don't worry, kiddies, it'll still have Itagaki's old stand-by crutch, violence and tits.
Platinum_Skeet @ Aug 28th 2008 7:49PM
Joystiq should fine the article when he was bashing the PS3 and the PS2.
He was gun-ho MS until he quit Team Ninja...
NoHitHair @ Aug 28th 2008 10:15PM
...and yet despite how worthless he had proved himself over the years, it's this bit of stupidity he spouts that smothers the normally fanboyish crowd.
B3astofthe3ast @ Aug 28th 2008 11:22AM
He just shat on Valves parade.
Mr.ESC @ Aug 28th 2008 12:17PM
Boo-Urns!
C’mon Valve are really good developers yeah they don't support consoles neither does Blizzard and still they are good.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 28th 2008 12:30PM
Mr. ESC
Punctuation just called. He's asking why you are repeatedly stabbing him in the eyes.
ehisforadam @ Aug 28th 2008 1:07PM
Maybe he takes the whole Zero Punctuation thing a bit too seriously.
Markez @ Aug 28th 2008 11:25AM
"I mean, give someone who's developing for the PS3 a Famicom and see if they can make a game for it."
Um, but doesn't that make perfect sense? Someone is a PS3 developer, you give them a Famicon which they're not a developer for, and it's supposed to be a surprise or shocking that they might have difficulty with it? MAYBE BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT A FAMICON DEVELOPER!?
Man I hate this tool.
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 28th 2008 11:27AM
"Man I hate this tool."
All of his games this gen are on the 360 dipshit. How is he a tool lol?
samfish @ Aug 28th 2008 11:48AM
Just because he makes 360 games doesn't mean he can't be a tool...
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 28th 2008 11:52AM
Samfish
Don't be such a fool. Read Markez's comment?! Markez was saying Itagaki was a PS3 tool lol. How can he be a Sony tool when all of his work this gen has been on the 360? That would be like me calling you a Sony tool lol.
Thats right back down with your shallow arguement....
Yourself @ Aug 28th 2008 11:52AM
I have this quote from Itagaki to prove indisputably that he is a tool:
"You know, I figure, wearing sunglasses is a pretty great way to make yourself look like a rebel. But I decided to take it further - that's right - I will now officially say anything, anything at all, if I know it will cause controversy. Because I am and always will be a True Rebel, and am totally different from and not at all like all those other lame-ass game designers who are known for more than one respectable franchise."
samfish @ Aug 28th 2008 11:56AM
Jack, I have no idea where you're getting that. Maybe your fanboyism is starting to show?
He simply said that someone with experience in 'X' and not in 'Y' would very possibly have difficulty doing 'Y'.
That seems like common sense more than fanboyism to me...
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 28th 2008 12:04PM
Sam
I own a PS3. Maybe Itagaki was making a cheapshot at the PS3. Maybe he wasn't. But since he has 20+ years of experience I will listen to the guy and not call him a tool because of famboyism.
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 28th 2008 12:05PM
No jack, YOU stop being the fool, Markez never mentioned the words 'PS3' and 'tool' in the same sentance let alone together. Try reading carefully before throwing insults seeing as you like to make up things from space.
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 28th 2008 12:07PM
And Itakagi is the biggest clown of the industry, even if what he is saying is right, you can't help but look at it with suspicion seeing as all his comments towards PS3 are usually negative.
GoldenS1104 @ Aug 28th 2008 12:08PM
@ Yourself
I think Itagaki is a pretty cool guy. eh wears sunglasses and doesnt afraid of anything.
Dirty @ Aug 28th 2008 12:22PM
This argument is pointless. What we have here is a failure to communicate.
Yourself @ Aug 28th 2008 12:25PM
Well that can't be right. I'm sure eh does afraid of something. Maybe his fear is coming up with a legitimate opinion, instead of listening to what everyone else says, then saying the opposite.
Maverick Saturn @ Aug 28th 2008 12:27PM
More like a failure to read, lol
Markez @ Aug 28th 2008 2:02PM
Jack, you're an idiot. I was saying he's a tool, an idiot, a dbag, an assclown, etc. Just a jackass in general.
He's a sony tool? WTF, why would I say that.
Right back with your shallow (and pointless) argument....
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 28th 2008 11:26AM
He is a cool motherfucker. I really like his character and personality. Would be a great drinkin buddy.
Raikage (GOLDEN Gun Of The Patriots) @ Aug 28th 2008 1:27PM
I agree (although I don't drink lol) but yeah, people seem to forget how long he's been in the industry. He made freakin' Tecmo Bowl!
I think he deserves a little respect, even though he kinda comes off harsh sometimes.
Zsavior @ Aug 28th 2008 4:11PM
I agree with that also he makes good games and He is zealous about it. This is his persona this is what he does to market his product nothing more, its like believing Tripple H really is a bad guy, Itagaki stirs the pot to get people talking. I think the reason he is hated so much is because most Japanese developers really don't do what he is doing.
We have a lot of loud mouths from American companies but Japanese developers usually stay away from that. Itagaki has never said "F casuals" or "X systems fans suck" when he gives remarks it is against a system, so to me it seems like a huge act and a pretty cool one to boot.
TMGE_rock @ Aug 28th 2008 11:26AM
I bet it's easy if u dont care about camera problems....
Wiinterfang @ Aug 28th 2008 11:32AM
Hey the guy from your avatar is from a movie, I was going to rent it but then, the local blockbuster go Broke and I didn't find it anywhere else, is it good?
TMGE_rock @ Aug 28th 2008 11:43AM
If u like long movies, over-dramatic stories, over-the-top action, and crazy art style... then yes!
If you dont watch asian movies... then probably no!

CASSHERN B-)
j.howlett @ Aug 28th 2008 11:27AM
i was just reading this on playstation fanboy. the only question i have is how drunk was he?
Levi @ Aug 28th 2008 12:06PM
Itagaki claims to be very buzzed several times during the interview. He tells the interviewer that he's probably going to be even more candid than usual due to how drunk he is.
Wiinterfang @ Aug 28th 2008 11:30AM
He needs some proactive... like now.
Alex @ Aug 28th 2008 11:44AM
My thoughts exactly lol!

He is pretty disgusting. His undeserved sense of self-worth doesn't help much, either.
Zertoss @ Aug 28th 2008 11:33AM
Wait, don't kids make Famicom games for fun after school these days?
CJLopez @ Aug 28th 2008 1:26PM
yes they do
B3astofthe3ast @ Aug 28th 2008 2:03PM
Your high ranking is prolly more due to your pic than comment, lol.
mandark @ Aug 28th 2008 11:34AM
Not as ridiculous as one might think .
Tweak programming in assembly for low powered 8 bit machines was an absolute nightmare.
Jack @ Aug 28th 2008 11:49AM
He's the asian putty tang!

Shadow Hog @ Aug 28th 2008 11:34AM
I think Itakagi is a pretty cool guy. eh praises the PS3 and doesn't afraid of anything.
Seriously, though, he's right, but only because the NES has tons of restrictions that today's developers (Capcom and Mega Man 9 notwithstanding) probably wouldn't take into consideration when making the game design. Things like 3 colors per sprite, 8 sprites on a screen at once, 16 colors on a screen per once, limited RAM, etc.
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 28th 2008 11:40AM
He must have thought he was making famicom games when he was working, cause he made some of the most shallow games I've seen that aren't supposed to be shovelware.
jimmygotsmack @ Aug 28th 2008 11:41AM
I thought it would be easier to program on the ps3 vs the new because of the 20 something year difference of technology and such. Turns out its because no one has enough sprite!!!
Even so, he is comparing it to a system made 20 something years ago, that's not really much on a praise/insult.
CAR WHERE MUCH HARDER TO BUILD BACK IN THE 1930s!!!!
jimmygotsmack @ Aug 28th 2008 11:42AM
"ps3 vs the new because"
the new = the nes*************
zuburi @ Aug 28th 2008 12:55PM
So many errors in your post, why stop at only correcting one?
Yourself @ Aug 28th 2008 2:07PM
Because why would you want to correct a classic line like "CAR WHERE MUCH HARDER"?
zuburi @ Aug 28th 2008 2:09PM
Touché, Yourself... Touché.
jimmygotsmack @ Aug 28th 2008 8:45PM
I should really stop writing at work, my grammar goes to sh!t.
LaughingTarget @ Aug 28th 2008 11:43AM
Dur, no way. I don't think he was drunk, just high. This kind of obvious insight comes from pot. Once someone enjoys the taste of more, doing with less is clearly more difficult.
Jack of No Trades 85 @ Aug 28th 2008 11:48AM
Its funny that your "internet bloggers" are arguing with a guy that has been developing/ programming games for 20 years.
I would take his word for it.
Unless you have programed on the NES/SNES or 360/PS3 you can't say anything.
