It's obvious Sony thought they have enough other CORE titles already in development. EyePet could be a HUGE success for Sony with the casuals and Core gamers. (if said game has enough innovation in it) The example of drawing that toy car and seeing the game incorporate that car with physics, collision dedection shows promise.

This game is not due out till fall of 2009, they have plenty of time to really make this game truly special.

Last time I checked, they had put 8 Days on hold and NOT cancelled it completely.

Yes, because so-called 'core' gamers have SUCH an amazing track record when it comes to supporting innovative titles.

Remember when that one promising core audience action title was canceled in favor of a different core audience action title? That was crazy off the HOOK! The internets never heard the end of that one!

"Core gamer" is becoming my least favorite buzzword in the industry.

Traditional games are still important (they're all I play), and I believe they will continue to thrive. I just wish that the gamers of the internet didn't such a sense of entitlement, where they cry foul when, godforbd, anyone decides not to pander to them.

Boo-freakin'-hoo, guys! Eyepet probably won't be my thing, but honestly, the real-world interaction they showed in the trailer, if it works, will be vastly more innovative than another running-driving-shooting game.

Look, much as y'all need to fill column inches with stuff for people hardcore enough to read a gaming blog, there's really, really, really no dearth of action shooters. There is a dearth of games that do something unusual, and especially a dearth of kid/family games with innovative technology. Eyepet looks to be exactly that, making it a vastly more interesting proposition for Sony, and for people interested in games and technology, than yet another game that plays kinda like Driv3r.

And the weird moralism about "selling out your fans" is just silly. If they were making games that urged kids to, say, snort coke and kill their parents, that might be a moral problem (depending on how you feel about coke and parents, I suppose). But there's really nothing immoral about making games for kids, even if it makes the people who buy new games weekly into sad pandas. Y'all have lots and lots of big, violent, sweaty games you can play, and plenty more coming, so stop crying like your diaper's wet whenever someone makes a game that you maybe won't like.

The destruction of gaming started by Nintendo has now been seeded into other companies.

The end has begun. REPENT!

This game isnt for everyone, but have any of you actually SEEN anything from eyepet? I think they are doing some really unique things with the "desktop toy". I think the coolest inovation is the ability to draw an image (penis) onto a piece of paper and hold it up to the camera, your little furry pet will grab a piece of paper and draw your image from your paper on to his own. Then he casts his magic spell on it, and your 2d image becomes a 3d rendered item, that the pet can interact with and play with.

I think if the game has innovative things like this, that it would make a really cool downloadable PSN game, as long as they charged for it on the cheap.

I fail to understand the definition of a "core" gamer. Is that the video game equivalent of a film student? What makes one a "core" gamer? I doubt we could even get a solid answer.

It was also highly predictable that since nintendo started the trend of mass producing garbage that other companies would soon follow. What's funny is some of you laughed those people off. What do those people say now that it's starting?

Nothing is starting tmacairjordan87, this is the way its always been. Its YOU who is just NOW noticing.. Either you're new to video games or you really weren't paying attention..

What do you think the reaction was from people like you when the NES came out? The people that where two hardcore for the NES? Probably still playing thier Amigas, because the NES was too kiddie/childish/casual..

Nintendo is not telling the market what to buy.. Sony and Microsoft focused on a small group of gamers who thought paying over half a grand for a gaming system was worth it..

Nitendo offered an alternative, and people like it.. get over it.

No they're not telling people what to buy, just taking advantage of the common masses idiocy. Remember, the people of the USA elected Bush twice. The common, uninformed consumer of anything really will always flock to the simplest, cheapest, most advertised piece of garbage out there. It's happening with nearly everything.

TwEE is right. The reaction of hardcore "establishment" gamers today mirrors the reaction of people who were playing their dedicated Game Computers back in 1985, and laughed at the NES

In 20 years, people will recall the Wii with the same nostalgia, remembering Wii Sports much as Super Mario Bros is remembered today.

The new gateway console, just not with the kind of market power the NES enjoyed (by grace of entering after the crash)

Now I know that your first taste of gaming was with a Sony product, and it hurts to see them pushed from 1st to 3rd place tmacairjordan87.

Thats why you lash out with your insults and misinformation, but you cant protect sony and you don't have the slightest clue why the Wii is mopping (and will continue mopping) the floor with the PS3 do you?

*Hint* its not because people who bought the wii are stupid and you're "the smart".

Here read this.. make it your friend..

"Remember, the people of the USA elected Bush twice."

I know I'm splitting hairs here, but popular vote != electoral votes. Popular vote shows who the people want, electoral votes show who the people get.

On topic, I have no interest in the eyepet nor eight days, though I've only just heard of one and barely seen anything of the other.

And for those who believe the slippery slope thing, Team Ico says hello.

My first taste of gaming was the SNES. However, unlike tools like yourself and samfish among others, I refused to keep sucking them off while they threw out inferior games and systems and stabbing me in the back. I ALWAYS go with the superior gaming machine, which is why I have a ps3 and a 360 despite hating the original xbox.

Ok widdle tmac, I think its time for a nappy wappy! You're getting cranky and are losing all sense of reality. Lie down for 15 min, drink a juice box, and come back to the thread when you're ready to post like a big boy!

Whatever. There's plenty of action titles out there. This looks like an actually interesting take on the virtual pet idea, while Eight Days just looked like another shooting game.

"It sucks though, because 8 Days was looking really impressive with what little I saw"

- Yeah, the RENDER was nice.
If they put sone 20-30 millions of $ in development of GAME that could be something good.

But I suppose that virtual pet was a little CHEAPER ;)

you know, a month (or even a few weeks) ago, this probably would've upset me a bit. now, i'm willing to say i applaud Sony's decision. granted, i probably would've had more interest in Eight Days, but the PS360 library is flooded with such (such being "hardcore") games as it is. would've been better had they just continued with both; but given the choice i think Sony made the right one.

now, in exchange for nixing Eight Days Sony whats say you announce Dark Cloud 3, and put a rush on White Knight Chronicles and Team ICO's next project. and by rush i mean, solid gameplay-footage and a firm release date for both by TGS.

I don't really care about either game, so maybe my perspective is skewed, but I don't think Sony has a whole lot of casual games out for the PS3. With the possible exception of LBP, most of their upcoming line-up are "core" games. So it doesn't really surprise me that they dumped Eight Days for EyePet.

Randy, I'm sorry but imo your an idiot.

This NOTHING like Nintendo (and btw, why are you people still acting surprised about the Wii and its games). PS has always been doing stuff like this, you might wanna check out Singstar, Buzz, EyeToy stuff, etc. And that's all stuff that started out LAST gen, arguably the most core gamer console back then.

Microsoft wished they had stuff like this (they've literally come out and said that). But then, soon they will, what with all the clones and such, right?

Sony Eight Days and the Getaway 3 are so much better then EyePet. So after you are done with that game bring back the other two. Because hard Core gamers are better then casual games. Plus Hard Corers buy the PS3 not casuals they buy the Wii and that tells you right there we don't want these wacky games give us games we want and we want Eight Days and the Getaway 3.

If this leads to Sony adding EyeToy2 to the firmware so we can use it for videochat while in a multiplayer game I'm all for it. Nothing worse than an $50 accessory that has 1 game and 1 upload your video feature.

You can't honestly be serious. While its true that Eight Days might be better as a game, Eyepet might well be one of the things that unites every single gamer. I mean for christ sakes look at the thing. Who could honestly not look at it and not want to just play with their own virtual monkey for hours?
