Microsoft's Halo team bolstered by Gearbox's Corrinne Yu
The juicy "Gearbox is developing Halo 4 OMG" rumor continues to be at the top of fanboy debate lists, with Microsoft confirming to Kotaku that Corrinne Yu, director of technology at Gearbox and pictured in full Spartan armor, has been hired as principle engine architect (fancy!) for the Xbox manufacturer's internal Halo team. The official statement: "As the Halo franchise continues to flourish, Microsoft Game Studios is growing its internal team to develop future Halo projects."
And what could "future Halo projects" entail? Microsoft isn't blabbing, but suspicious men in trenchcoats posit that Yu will be working on the nebulous Peter Jackson project and putting her Unreal Engine 3 expertise to good use.

Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Aug 29th 2008 4:49PM
...thus it will be great, at least.

Oh fuck off. Halo 3 was a good game. A disappointing story mode(Halo 2 was alot better), but still a solid game for people who wanted more Halo.
Mr.ESC @ Aug 29th 2008 4:28PM
It could also mean they are working on the port of halo 3 to PC.
Halo 4 by Gearbox..um I dig it.
Red Leader @ Aug 29th 2008 4:47PM
I wish they would have kept something like this a better secret. Halo needs a bigger break from the spotlight. Plus weren't they talking about departing from the Halo series in favor of remaking older titles?

No doubt Corrinne is smart and has a strong math and engineering background... but what has she actually shipped/produced? Not much...

...your point being?
Infinity Ward ONLY made three games(which were pretty much clones, mind you.) and we all still love these guys.
Having a new member of staff who used to work at a different dev is always a good thing. Fresh ideas = WIN!

Understand that women in this industry rarely 'make it' on skill. The ones who are in the headlines are always attractive, and always got there based on their looks & personality. And before you say "That's insulting!", understand it's because the guys in the video game industry become retards around moderately attractive women.

yeah but, she is a babe!

no she's not. do not want.

Point is that this isn't really news and tracking where Corrinne Yu works is meaningless. Why not pick any of the other dozens of new hires that MS has? You know, people who have shipped and worked on meaningful titles?
"Having a new member of staff who used to work at a different dev is always a good thing."
Not sure I follow this at all. New hires are always good things? Why? Plenty of new hires don't mesh/work out, even ones that have proven themselves in the past with other teams don't always translate into success for new teams.
Not sayings its bad or trying to shit on Corrinne... its just... why the big deal? I think we all know...
Fosssil @ Aug 29th 2008 5:18PM
Please Microsoft, hire John Howard next.
uberartist @ Aug 29th 2008 6:04PM
As big or bigger news is that Kenneth Scott, longtime Art Director of id software (and husband of Corrinne) also accepted a position with Microsoft. A package deal of sorts, details beyond that are sketchy though.
jayeffaar @ Aug 29th 2008 7:47PM
Huh, Ludwig, unless Corrinne is meant to design some sort of ethics engine, you probably mean she was hired to be the princiPAL engine architect.
juju187 @ Aug 29th 2008 9:17PM
where the picture of corrinne?
can't use my "I'd hit it" remark...

Halo 3 was a good game, but nothing could live up to the hype placed on it. I fear Gears of War will suffer the same fate.
People line up to throw stones but as an overall game Halo 3 was awesome and its a great American made franchise, I'd like to see what a new group of folks could do with the series.

Please. Someone. Anyone! Hello?!!

If Microsoft hands it off to someone other than Bungie, I'll still play it, but less enthusiastically. Take THAT, corporate overlords!
