Stardock reveals Sins of a Solar Empire: Entrenchment

We're not even going to try to decode what the $9.95 expansion (due late this year) adds to the game, so here it is straight from the space horse's mouth: "Entrenchment promises to bring fans a Starbase defense platform for each race (extremely powerful and armored bases housing a variety of weapons and other upgrades capable of defending an entire planet), turret upgrades for each race to make them more powerful mine fields and a Subspace Inhibitor platform that will slow enemy ships within its range."
...Umm, great?

I guess I'll just try Homeworld 2 instead.I'm really in a mood for a space strategy but I've played the Demo and Sins is still waaay too 4X for my standards.

I played Homeworld2 for years on end. Sins is a different beast though, and has it's own gameplay style unique to itself, and compared to Homeworld2, for example, is way more in depth and advanced. Sins is great at what it does (I am not a fan of it's hardcore 4x nature), but Homeworld2 is great at what it does as well and plays a lot easier and is more fun (IMO, of course).

If you like Homeworld 2, check out Sword of the Stars. It's by most of the same team and has Homeworld-ish ship combat, but with a wide-open 4X planet/fleet/tech system built on.
So, turn-based empire management + real-time ship combat.
It also has a solid storyline with four races, each with very different play style. Well, six races with the expansions.

God this game reminds me why I need to finish building my PC. I also will probably have to quit my life to have enough time to play, but it should be worth it.

That sounds awesome, no more having to worry about splitting up your fleet too much to defend against an enemy attack. And hopefully the platforms won't be worthless like the Gauss cannons

Sins is like a drug. It makes time disappear in large chunks, but is so insanely fun and joyous that you really don't care.
Or like a puppy.

How about this:
A space combat game, where you can either just pilot one ship, and it plays like Freespace etc., or switch to a overview and it plays like Homeworld.

Ever heard of Allegiance? Not sure if any servers are still active, but it was an awesome little multiplayer space game where one player acted as the strategy commander and 10-20 others piloted ships in his fleet. Online only, though.
