Has anyone asked Valve if they are going to shun this title (updates -wise) like they shunned the console versions of tf2?

The guy is not a "retard." Grow up.

TF2/Orange Box came out 10 months ago... the DLC you sassily posted about isn't even out yet... not until the end of this year... one year later.

I'd say shunning the 360 is accurate. Please refrain from name-calling.

As for Left 4 Dead, it doesn't feel up to Valve's standards... "Reloading!" stuff like that feels cheesy... Valve has great taste... was this game subcontracted out and Valve put its name on it?

Fair enough maybe retard was too strong.

If you took the time to read the source of that update info (Kotaku) you would have found the following reason why it took so long for them to bring the updates to the 360.

"Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi got that piece of business out of the way just before our latest Left 4 Dead demo, saying that the developer wanted to build up a massive update for Xbox 360 users before delivering. Given that Valve is being forced to charge for the update, they wanted to ensure that 360 owners were getting their money's worth."

So honestly, people dissing Valve pisses me off. Best and most honest developer out there.

Yes, I agree... Valve is my favorite.

Their standards are so high, they themselves have to know they haven't figured out the 360 update thing yet. If they could put out add'l content at even half the rate of the PC side, they would be doing great for 360... and elevate their status on the console (some people don't know Valve... and Orange Box, surprisingly.)

As I type this, my visiting family is pushing through on Portal... I'm in here because they're way beyond where I am in the game and I don't want to see any ahead of time. ;)

Doug, did you read what I said? Valve didn't release the updates at the same rate as the PC because they are being forced to charge for it, so they wanted to release it in one big pack so 360 users get the most from it, it's nothing to do with "they themselves have to know they haven't figured out the 360 update thing yet."

Valve aren't stupid, of course they know how to release updates for the 360.

I read what you said. I read the article.

Valve didn't get where they are by letting the circumstances of business force them to put their games or their fans second. Valve has not "figured out" how to make the 360 thing work. I stand by that statement.

Bungie, on the other hand, has figured out how to work with Microsoft to get their fans what they need in a timely manner. Cold Storage was a map given away free, I have to believe, because Bungie and Microsoft have a working relationship.

Gabe Newell is a smart guy and I don't believe "Microsoft made us do x or y" is an excuse he is really standing behind. Orange Box is Valve's first 360 game, if I'm not mistaken. If they want to be up there with Infinity Ward and Bungie on consoles (they are already above them on PC) then they need to do a better job and stop making excuses.

M$ is a problem, but you can't let them stop you from getting updates out before 12 months. Business success is not built on accepting your limitations, and I don't think Valve will recreate this 12 month cycle on new games. They're too smart.

Luke, if you haven't noticed, there's flying sentries on every stage of Dustbowl. If they can't patch that huge glitch and others, why should we believe they'd ever release humongous batch of updates? Dare I evoke the PS3's version?

graphically, it does look a little dated (but thats not the 360's fault, it looks the same on the PC)

That's because it is using the Source engine, just like every other Valve game since CS:S and HL2.

Yeah, and that's what allows the game to run on ancient Pentium 4 systems and AGP graphics cards - according to the Valve hardware survey, that kind of spec is actually what the majority of users are running rather than dual 4870 X2's.

I would've thought that people would shut up about graphics (instead of gameplay) after Crysis.

seriously tho, considering that the levels are as opened and streaming as they are + how many people you can co-op with + how many enemies are coming at you, the game looks pretty good.

Seriously guys? The game does not look THAT great. I mean yeah, it looks like a good bit of fun, but there is just too many flaws that I see. 1) The graphics are not good at all, the 360 has done better. 2) No recoil on the guns? This will make this game way to easy. 3) There were times in that video with noticable slow down/frame rate issues. I own a PS3 and not a 360. *prepares for the OMG FANBOY GET OUT OF HERE BLABLA LOLZ replies*. I am not making this post to bash/troll/flame/whatever you guys call it these days. I would just seriously like to know why you praise this game so much. It looks like just another fps from last generation.

because it's a good bit of fun, like you said. and from what people who have played it have said, it's apparently a great healthy chunk of fun.

and that's why people praise it. is that wrong? maybe. but in the end it won't affect your day right?

1) The graphics are just fine, and it's not made to look amazing. It's using the Source engine, for Christ's sake.

2) There is recoil on the guns... As a matter of fact, lots of it, just like CS, CS:S, HL, HL2 (and it's Episodes), and TF2.

3) There was only one point in that video where there was any significant frame rate drop.

This game, just like every other VALVe game will be gold, no matter how it looks.

Do I HAVE to point out that you are watching an EMBEDED STREAMING video over the internet? You are complaining about FPS on a streaming video................ moron.

Thanks for the answers, guys. Except for you Anticrawl. You know you can actually wait for one of these mystical streaming videos to load before you watch it, correct? It is a frame rate issue and slow down spots, but I just remembered this is still in development, so maybe they can fix those.

I'm still on the edge on what system I'm getting this for.
On the PC, this is going pretty crappy considering the settings I run TF2, but I also know this will succeed on the PC, but might fail on the 360.

I'm really looking forward to this. Don't see anything in that particular video that has much of anything to do with teamwork not found in other games though (I realize it's in there, just not in that vid, which is the context that it was mentioned in).

Also, constantly hearing "reloading" might get old pretty fast. Why not just let the player call it out through the mic whenever the situation calls for it? I know in Gears when we're playing multiplayer matches online and one of us has to reload or jams in the middle of a battle we call it out so the other person can protect accordingly during that time.

...and if you're playing with bots? Makes sense that a setting to turn off the bots saying it will be available though, if not at launch then later after a 200 page topic is launched on the issue on the Steam forums.

Anyways, this game is EPIC WANT. Looking forward to this more than Gears 2 =D
