We might actually go see the Max Payne movie
Perhaps it's the sight of a former rapper flying awkwardly through the air with guns blazing, or the amusing result of That 70's Show's Jacky pretending to be a real toughian, but we're feeling slightly optimistic about Max Payne's journey from game to film. Sure, it's a journey that's been attempted and failed by many blithering idiots who could barely stand upright, but we're intrigued by this film's gloomy atmosphere and winged, are-they-real-or-hallucinatory demons. Plus, you know, Brett Ratner isn't directing it. See the theatrical trailer after the break.

looks good ... i will probably check it out on watch-movies dawt net then decide whether or not to go out and see it ... worked with batman (awesome)
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 29th 2008 7:15PM
Or... you can see it on opening night(or whenever) instead of watching it for free. Because that way, even if the movie is good or bad, that will probably convince Rockstar to go ahead and make a Max Payne 3.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Aug 29th 2008 9:30PM
Good point Vegeta.
But something tells me money outweighs honor on the internet scale.
OMGOMG @ Aug 29th 2008 6:57PM
I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm excited about the potential.
kinshadow @ Aug 29th 2008 7:00PM
I'll probably see. Too bad it has almost nothing to do with the actual game.
GreyFox @ Aug 29th 2008 7:11PM
From what I can tell they have everything there except the Russians. I'll still go see it though.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 29th 2008 7:18PM
Also the angels are based on Nordic mythology which is touched on in the games.
Waqman @ Aug 29th 2008 7:10PM
Mark Wahlberg sucks, I might give this a rent. But his performances stink, yet he somehow gets to be in some pretty good movies (Boogie Nights, Three Kings, The Departed).
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 29th 2008 7:16PM
What? Mark Whalberg is a damn good actor. And he was good in all three movies as well.
waynski1457 @ Aug 29th 2008 7:24PM
I'm going to have to go with Waqman on this. Watch some of his crap movies (like The Shooter...) and you'll see that he really is the same in all of them. Some movies just play up his ablility to be an asshole more. Which is why I plan on seeing this.
Psaakyrn @ Aug 29th 2008 7:29PM
Considering the only facial expression he needs is the constipated look, I don't think acting is a major requirement. :p
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 29th 2008 7:37PM
Oh man. An actor being in bad movies? MY GOD!!!
Please it happens to almost every actor. Mark Whalberg is no exception. He also has been in a bunch of good movies as well such as We own the knight, The departed, and boogie nights.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 29th 2008 7:37PM
sigh, I meant night.
syrik zero @ Aug 29th 2008 7:40PM
That is a funny nerd slip... You type knight more than night? Haha Good stuff! I'm not saying it's bad to be a nerd, all of us are one... You're just a bigger one? Haha jk again
syrik zero @ Aug 29th 2008 7:12PM
That looks pretty cool. But I really don't remember all those things in the game.... Although I never got around to playing the 2nd game. Can someone (or everyone) let me know if that stuff is in the 2nd game?
j.howlett @ Aug 29th 2008 7:15PM
looks worth watching. i haven't been to the movies in a couple years don't think this will get me out
Richard Mitchell @ Aug 29th 2008 7:55PM
Where's the awful leopard print shirt?

Mike @ Aug 29th 2008 8:12PM
Sorry doOd but that shirt's a Hawaiian.
mezzanine @ Aug 29th 2008 8:05PM
I want to see it, but I prefer the old trailer. Everyone should see this just to support Max Payne 3.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 29th 2008 8:46PM
Exactly. Even if it turns out to be a bad movie, everyone should see this just because it might cause a Max Payne 3 to come out.
Mike @ Aug 29th 2008 8:10PM
I am definitely seeing this the first day it comes out.
J.Goodwin @ Aug 29th 2008 8:17PM
Clearly you haven't seen The Big Hit, Ludwig.
Mr. Wahlberg is far from awkward when flying through the air guns blazing.
Megadanxzero @ Aug 29th 2008 8:57PM
Well... After seeing that trailer I've pretty much given up hope of the weird demons either being not real or only appearing once or twice... Still looks good, but it's only really half Max Payne
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 29th 2008 10:13PM
Actually the angels aren't real. There are two scenes from the trailer that support this.
In the scene where Max shoots at an enemy, and the angel looks to be carrying away the enemy, he immediately starts to drop him. This scene seems to prove that the angels are symbolisms for death.
Also in the scene where the guy is in the building looking at the window and one of the angels appear to crash into said window, right before the trailer moves onto a different scene, the angel disappears. So unless these monsters have the power to cloak themselves, I'd say that it's proof that the angels are simply hallucinations.
fischju @ Aug 29th 2008 9:11PM
Another fallen stargate actor...
MOT @ Aug 29th 2008 9:33PM
I will not watch this. Apparently the producer felt it was needed to tack on a lame heaven/hell struggle storyline onto what was already in Max Payne.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Aug 29th 2008 10:06PM
1. Game already had Nordic mythology in the story.
2. Angels aren't real.
brokenscope @ Aug 29th 2008 10:19PM
There is no "heaven vs hell" thing. Its simply a different way of expressing something from the game. Play it before saying something stupid.
MasterInsan0 @ Aug 29th 2008 9:53PM
I really hope the whole "valkyrie" thing is just a metaphor and that they're not real. Obviously, even though Max Payne was heavily influenced by Nordic mythology, it wasn't *actually* Nordic mythology (as opposed to, say, Too Human).
If they could get that little detail right, this movie might end up as the first good video game movie. If not, it might end up like Doom (where the game was just an excuse to make a movie).
mecharine @ Aug 29th 2008 9:58PM
Hmm, actually, parts of the movie seem to take place in a delusion. Like, say, a near-death delusion. How much you guys want to bet that Maxy Payne says
"This bullet shreds my mind like the screams of the people that I've killed"?
invinciblegod @ Aug 29th 2008 10:36PM
How come this is now a superhero movie? Also why is the trailer in the same style as Watchmen? Is that popular right now or something?
snarfoogle @ Aug 30th 2008 8:02PM
Super hero movie? Bullet time flying jumps are nothing new for Max Payne, and the Valkyries are most likely metaphorical/delusions.
Val @ Aug 29th 2008 10:38PM
I'm gonna we this. Who fucking cares if it doesn't look exactly like the game
EMaster @ Aug 30th 2008 2:10AM
I will lie the film if there is the scene of max getting injected with an overdose of valkyr where as he slowly passes out, a slowed down voice says "The Flesh of Fallen Angels". I know that's retarded but it was one Of my favorite scenes in max payne followed by the worst level in Max payne.
SonofSeth @ Aug 30th 2008 4:32AM
Still waiting for thta Warcraft movie to be the first game to movie movie that does not suck super monkey balls.
Kennie @ Aug 30th 2008 5:36AM
... and he runs out of painkillers by the end of the movie, but his female friend saves him and they kiss each other under the falling snow for three minutes. Pff. Hollywood.
tr00k @ Aug 30th 2008 11:27AM
Family Guy's Meg as Mona (I'm assuming)? Really?
Michael K. @ Aug 30th 2008 2:40PM
wow, that was the worst movie trailer I've ever seen
VFX dude @ Aug 30th 2008 9:20PM
LOL... none of you guys bothered to look at the director did you?
This guy's takin a wicked wicked story and fucking it up LARGE.
Go see the watchmen (i don't even like comics). RENT max payne.
