PAX 2008: Gears 2 will not have a Halo 2-style ending
When asked if Gears 2's storyline will follow in the footsteps of a game like Halo 2 and its unsatisfying cliffhanger, Ortega comforted our worries by admitting that players will "get nice closure." But not too much closure, because Ortega was also quick to acknowledge fact that he didn't want to end Gears 2 "too much where there couldn't be room to expand should you decide to." Because that would totally put a damper on any trilogy hopes. So, no unsatisfying Halo 2-style ending, a sense of fulfillment and room to grow the Gears franchise? Sounds like a campaign winner to us.

Hopefully Gears of War 2 won't have a Gears of War 1-Style ending. Sorry, but that wasn't a very good cliffhanger, either, in my opinion.
Still was a good game, though, and I'm psyched for the sequel.

In my opinion, this is one of Stiller's best roles in a while. Black is kind of like a "sideline" character in this movie, but he plays it almost perfectly. You get just the right amount of dosage with Black.
Downey Jr. steals the show, though. Seriously, he rocked it.

Gears of War was just a horrible game, and I'm not saying that just to hate on it. I'm saying it because maybe it'll make the difference for a few of you out there who consider buying Gears 2.

Let's be honest here. Not a single copy of any game has ever been sold because the previous installment ended in a cliffhanger. So, developers, just let them go. Otherwise we'll end up with cliffhangers without resolution, which are utter crap. This is especially crap when the game is magnificent, but doesn't sell.

Also, no-one's ever been stopped from making a sequel because the previous game had a proper ending. Like Bioshock for example.

What I don't like is the attitude that apparently there is no story or action at all wherever the main character isn't. Just because the story of Marcus Fenix ends, doesn't mean there aren't other soldiers fighting other battles elsewhere. Seriously guys, your game worlds are the safest places in all the multiverse so long as you're not within sight of the main character.

I don't really get this. The first Gears of War had a far worse ending than Halo 2. With Halo 2, we knew it was nothing more than a build up for Halo 3, and even then, it finished the story arc it set up, which was the Elites disbanding from the Covenant, it was only after that we see the Chief heading back to Earth. Certainly not the best ending ever, but I don't see what the fuss is about really.
With Gears of War the game simply ended with what appears to be nothing more than a build up for another level, I quite honestly thought there was more of the game coming, until the credits started rolling.
Unlike Halo, Gears had basically no story, so the cliff hanger didn't even mean anything. It's good that they won't be taking that route with GoW2, but they have no right to be taking jabs at Halo.

R-Well the story was printed in the manual by itself Gears of war was just a pretty game for late Xbox 360 owners basically the killer app that shows off your new shiny system.

Both games had stories, GoW's just didn't make any sense within the game itself. GoW's ending was especially disjointed. Why the hell was that bomb even on the train? Where did the train even come from? Why didn't the Locust just stop the train? I mean, you're just playing along and all of a sudden the characters are like, "Hey, we need to jump on this train". Nothing was really explained at all, just a huge jump from getting the the tunnel maps to putting them on the mysterious bomb on a train.

I tend to avoid reading the achievements and things in the manual before hand, to avoid spoilers, guess that was my problem. :P
But my point still stands, it's cliffhanger ending was just as bad, if not worse than Halo 2's, they have no reason to be taking jabs at it.

It sucks they couldn't add a playable female character. I know a lot of girls that play Gears who'd appreciate it. Maybe in Gears 3?

I love Gears mostly for the Multiplayer. Single player was fun for like a week. But it's the Multiplayer I've been playing nonstop since the game came out. So if the single player is amazing in GOW2. It'll be more like a bonus for me. I'm more looking forward to the multiplayer.

Gears' story and universe are pretty enticing to me... I don't understand how a lot of people bash on it for having no story. Gears 1 explains things super concisely to retain it's mystery... Excellent writing IMO.
Gears2 will be a work of art. Eat it haters.
