Is this what Microsoft was not so quietly sweeping under the carpet when they nixed the Bungie announcement during their E3 keynote? We have no clue as of yet, and all we can get out of Bungie is a "we can't talk about it." We're going to try and batter down Bungie's doors today to get more info.
So far, here's what we know. The menu screen says System Version 1.2, when the Halo 3 retail version is only at 1.1, and there's only a multiplayer option, no campaign. What does it all mean? We caught up with Bungie's Brian Jarrard who told us the screen was from a build that they brought on Friday that "wasn't really meant to be seen. However, it's really not that exciting, it's gotten kind of blown out of proportion."
While the shakey-cam photo above from Addict Gaming might be the only visual evidence of Mythic, it's definitely coming. At some point. Bungie wasn't forthcoming with details, but we'll see what we can find out.
[Thanks, Robert]

Isn't that the final pre-release MP build from last Sept?

Jeez stop freaking out Joystiq. It's the new map Assembly probably with Auto-update 2 which is coming out pretty soon I think.
This is clearly not what they had to shut up about at E3.

It would be pretty sad if it was....
Don't you think the whole "wasn't really meant to be seen. However, it's really not that exciting, it's gotten kind of blown out of proportion." give it away?

I thought it would be like a Counter Strike version of Halo. It wouldn't have Campaign, you could literally create your own levels, and have a plethora of options for your character/levels. It would be like the playability of Halo 1-3 sans Single Player.

Throwing up idea's here is it possible that they might plan on shipping a standalone Halo 3 Multiplayer Edition haha. Downloadable version maybe!?!?

...but why would you do that? There's no fucking point. The only reason that I can think of is to trade it with Sony for Warhawk, but I should probably wake up cos it ain't happening.

So you're threatening to play another game because they won't make an announcement? First off you think really highly of yourself if you think they care at all what you do. Second, even if they announce something you're still going to have to wait to play it. It's amazing the stupid things people say.

I'm guessing its a stand alone multiplat experience, or the MMOFPS hopefully. If it was, I guess I would be a bit more excited. But I don't expect more then another halo experience with a few odd changes here and there. Impress me, please impress me, I'm dying here, throw me a line, lol

Someone posted this on X3F and I have to agree... it's probably just the next map pack. Haven't we all been calling the next map pack "Mythic" for some time now? This is a standalone version of that pack. Why? For one they don't risk putting it on XBL where someone might stumble across it early. They create a disc with only a menu and those maps. Nothing else. This also will make sure that people only play those maps and don't sneak into Valhalla or something.

My bet: v1.2 is a downloadable version of the multiplayer from live. No disc required!

Maybe its a version that lets you save only the multiplayer version on the Hard drive.

mayb just wait and see ive seen loads of rumours.... if you guys stopped asuming and do a bit of research you'd find out.... plus i also heard they are brining the maps out in Europe on the 26th and other places the 25th this maybe old new to some but just incase.... ¬.¬ and if the mythic maps have to be paid for they will more than likely make the ledgendary pack free as they did with the heroic mp.... so just sit back guys and chill till the maps etc are released oh and also there maybe a Mythic Difficulty so that might answer your question to the campaign :P

Halo3 mythic is a map pack not an actual "new" game.
