Innovation in gaming has long been something for which Nintendo strives. While their backbone has usually been straightforward gaming adventures, their history is filled with dabbles in experimental concepts. But never has this been more present than in their two current-generation systems. Games like Brain Age and Wii Fit are small examples of titles designed to be something other than a simple "game." Along the same line is the concept of a game with the purpose to relax.
While Endless Ocean shows roots of games which appeared on the PS2, the idea of soothing gameplay has never before been executed so beautifully. The gesturing of the Wiimote makes the experience all the more comforting. It's slightly liberating to pry the analog stick-endowed controller from your clawed hands and lean back in your sofa as you game. As you float around the pristine waters of Manoa Lai, the beautiful sea life provides child-like wonder and amazement. Don't be alarmed if the relaxtion induced from this title make the muscles of your body feel like maple syrup being slowly oozed out of a container. It's just the incredible visuals and tranquilizing audio of Endless Ocean. If the angelic voice of Hayley Westenra isn't up your alley, then load up your SD card with your own sedating tunes. It's interesting (and a bit scary) to imagine what other ends video games may provide in the future.
