Joystiq Podcast: PAX 2008 Special

We didn't tamper with any of the Usual Suspect's traditions (sorry, no snacks, although we were obsessively eating Pocky Sticks during recording), else Crudwig McElroy might come after us with a seven-toed iron kick. Still, we had a microphone and 45 minutes to kill, so we decided to recap everything we had seen at the Expo pre-Omegathon final.

Donald @ Sep 1st 2008 6:18PM
I do believe it is actually you that creates the vacuum, sir.
Halwende @ Sep 1st 2008 6:35PM
...but Joystiq Podcast RULZ, so it's all even then innit :P
Wiinterfang @ Sep 1st 2008 7:01PM
Well yeah Joystiq podcast make even the backpack convention sounds cool.
j.howlett @ Sep 1st 2008 7:00PM
good stuff. it'd be nice if you popped in on the regular podcast every once awhile.
Ross Miller @ Sep 1st 2008 7:06PM
Which one of "you" are you referring to? Or is this like the Golden Comment of Discord where we all fight over the anonymous compliment?
j.howlett @ Sep 1st 2008 7:18PM
i was talking of course about Crudwig McElroy. but seriously i meant as a group or any combo to stop by for a segment or more just to add different voices to the show. new opinions and out looks. someone who is able to play the ps3 online and does maybe.

damn surprise paudcaust (trying to type as if i have a South African accent)
WhoMe @ Sep 1st 2008 7:54PM
I'll give you guys a try.
I actually stopped listening to the regular Joystiq podcast ever since it became just another cult of personality show... And then that JPAG fanboy club pretty much sealed the deal.
WhoMe @ Sep 1st 2008 7:59PM
BTW, if your looking for a good podcast, I can recommend the GFW Radio podcast (even if you are not a PC gamer). No mindless spouting of internet memes or egos getting more and more bloated with each episode, but funny stuff for sure. Not too much talk about actual games though. :)
Also the last two were pretty fucking funny, but I won't spoil it, go listen!
Justin McElroy @ Sep 2nd 2008 7:32AM
I don't blame you, that's when I stopped too.
Cal @ Sep 2nd 2008 1:08AM
is this the sound of air conditioner humming i hear in the podcast?
Kevin Kelly @ Sep 2nd 2008 3:56AM
That was a small soft drink fridge in the conference room we did this in. I didn't think the supersensitive, government-issue mic would pick it up, but low and behold...
WhoMe @ Sep 2nd 2008 7:48AM
I listened to it the other night, and I must say it was an ok podcast. Audio quality was quite good actually, especially compared to the 1up podcast that was from the show floor/stage. Subjecting yourself to that NOISE is just plain stupid. So yeah I didn't mind the drone of a fridge in the background.
Content wise it was ok. Nothing spectacular, but then it wasn't that kind of show. Nice to hear some other Joystiqers for once.

Great Show guys! I must say I enjoyed this slightly more than the Joystiq Podcast for one simple fact. you guys did not care about dropping 4 letter words multiple times and were scared to do so unlike Crudwig McElroy. You guys should ahve your own show similar to CAG Foreplay where you guys have a show under the same flag but talk about different things that Crudwig McElroy don't talk about in a more Edgy way like you displayed here. Please do this again sometime soon. If you do you will get your own facebook group (which I would even start) to compete with them. Waddya say?

Five minutes of whurrr whurrr whurrr is all I could take. Sorry.

Quote: "...The more girls we get in the gaming industry, the more games we get that aren't [FPS]... we get games like Braid..."
So, are you trying to say that Jonathan Blow is of the female persuasion?
Kevin Kelly @ Sep 2nd 2008 11:26PM
YES! You heard it here first.

Jenga rules, particularly Rule 3.1:
1. The player who built the tower goes first. Play then continues to the left.
2. On your turn, carefully remove a block from anywhere BELOW the highest completed story Then stack it on top of the tower, at right angles to the blocks just below it.
3. Removing and Stacking Blocks
- Remove and stack one block per turn. To remove a block, use one hand at a time. You can switch hands whenever you wish.
- As play proceeds and the weight of the tower shifts, some blocks become looser than others and are easier to remove. You can touch other blocks to find a loose one - but if you move a block out of place, you must fix it (using one hand only) before touching another block.
- While stacking, always complete one 3 - block story before starting a higher one.
4. Your turn ends 10 seconds after you stack your block-or as soon as the player to your left touches a block.
5. Keep removing and stacking blocks until the tower falls. A real pro can build a tower 36 stories high - or more!

Gotta love the intro music, great choice, should have gone with the remix wit Jay Z but still just as good.
