New games this week: Mercenaries 2 edition

We hate to be the ones to break the news to you, but, with the season still three weeks away, the fall onslaught has officially begun. The biggest release is the oft-delayed Mercenaries 2, sure, put you've also got a new Viva Pinata, Trouble in Paradise, and Facebreaker, which ... well, at least it has Snoop Dogg in it.

Viva Pinata DS is coming out this week in Pal-land so I'll probably get that - maybe. I might opt for the 360 version, but, I don't know. Isn't that multiplayer focused? My friends don't want to play video games - except if it's PES or Mario Kart - so I'm leaning towards the DS version.

I've had a guy who has been playing Mercenaries 2 on my XBL Friends List for a few weeks now. I wasn't really anticipating the game, so I didn't know that it hadn't come out yet. That is very cool.

I've been playing Mercs 2, and I think it's a game that's going to show the weaknesses in the game review system. It's unpolished, the graphics(especially during cutscenes) are pretty bad, the AI is dirt stupid, and the dialog is near non-existent.

----BUT----

It's the most fun I've had with a game for a while. I mean it, it is just pure fun. It's the kind of fun where you are just giggling nonstop like a little girl. Everything is destructible, and it all explodes in a very pleasing way. The ability to walk into a firefight, then step back a few yards and blow them to hell and back with an airstrike is reason enough to buy this game.

I'm losing faith in the game critics every day. A 5? A 5 is what a rushed movie tie-in gets. I think these critics need to step back and remember what gaming is all about: fun. And there's TONS to be had in Mercs 2, despite the cosmetic blemishes.

I give it an 8.5.

I wrote a big reply agreeing with the mudkip, but i dont think it registered so ill shorten it down. Mercs 2 is fucking awesome with a ridiculous amount of explosions that will make you wish you had a better TV to watch them, and Eurgamer reviewers have a huge stick up their ass

Mercenaries 2 my ass. The biggest release this week is Super Mario RPG on NA virtual console. Not that I have anything against Mercenaries 2, but it simply isn't SMRPG.

Mercenaries 2 For the ps2 but NOT for the wii -which has better graphics and faster speeds?? WOW.

More "Wii" games please.. Like Wii Mercs, or Wii Shoot!

And that my peeps is what I'm getting at.. 3rd parties have little faith in the wii ans thats because its the "casual gamers" console, point blank.
