The enemies should look like Protoman
lol
MetalGearsOfSolidWar @ Sep 1st 2008 4:35PM
Fucking awesome
*waits for people to bitch about how long it takes to create a level*
I'm making a Shadow Moses stage and a Guy(Final Fight, Street Fighter Alpha) Sackboy.
jcd @ Sep 1st 2008 4:46PM
Well... IT DOES take a lot of time...
Hyams @ Sep 1st 2008 4:51PM
Anyone who hoped to make something like the Joystiq logo in under 15 minutes has been kidding themselves. It'd probably take me a similiar ammount of time to draw that in Photoshop.
That you can make something like that in less than 15 minutes, really, is impressive to me. How long would it take a modder to model that for a game like Oblivion or Half Life?
tmacairjordan87 @ Sep 1st 2008 5:03PM
Anything good that is created takes time.
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Sep 1st 2008 5:03PM
"How long would it take a modder to model that for a game like Oblivion or Half Life?"
Yes because comparing hard mods(ie: stuff that you have to create from scratch then shoehorn into the game by replacing the original files.) to a built-in level creator is a really fair comparison.
As of now, we can't really criticise the length because there are plenty of factors affecting it.They're not exactly familiar with the editor, they were in a group having a laugh etc.
I'm pretty sure that the devs behind the editor could just as easily pull it off in less than five minutes.
Hyams @ Sep 1st 2008 5:13PM
I wasn't talking about inserting the files into the game or anything, making sure there are no bugs, etc.
I literally just meant making the models using a 3D design program.
My point being that you can easily and quickly make this sort of stuff from scratch in LBP. It's far more accessable than full blown modding and yet allows for almost as much creativity.
I really have to wonder what people were expecting when they point at LBP creation videos and cry "that's too complex!" or "it takes too long!". Were they perhaps expecting for them to be able to summon entire levels into existance by clicking their fingers?
Haggard @ Sep 1st 2008 7:04PM
I remember the godawful skateparks I used to build in the Tony Hawks level editor.
BananaBoat @ Sep 2nd 2008 12:33AM
Let's be honest...most people are probably going to buy Little Big Planet, and then play the creations of other people. Making anything of substance seems like it would take many, many hours. Most people probably don't have that kind of time on their hands. After seeing this video (I'd been keeping my eyes away from actual LBP gameplay videos. So afraid that they'll ruin it) I've got a much better idea of what it would take to make something, for instance, that you could actually sell to people inside of LBP. I hope there is some sort of user voting mechanism for maps so that you don't have to wade through garbage map after garbage map.
I almost want them to release this game now, and consistently add in new props, items, etc via DLC. It seems like the mechanic is completely down. Then again, maybe the main story mode isn't done...who knows. Getting anxious.

Can you put custom music in your stage?
Hyams @ Sep 1st 2008 4:43PM
I'm not sure you can. I imagine the files sizes for the levels would be too big if you could.
GoldenS1104 @ Sep 1st 2008 11:25PM
You can't put custom music... not because of file size, but because of copyright. That's the same reason you can't currently import pictures from memory cards (you have to take pics with the playstation eye). But they might patch it later so you can import pics. I hear they are also gunna give music as DLC (im not sure if free or not) so you don't run out of songs or get tired of the ones on the disc.
j.howlett @ Sep 1st 2008 4:38PM
got anything in a youtube?
giantenemycrab @ Sep 1st 2008 4:38PM
I WANT THIS GAME. Now.. to convince myself to get a PS3...
giantenemycrab @ Sep 1st 2008 4:39PM
you guys should put that as your logo for a little while. That would look awesome.
Nick the Hero of Canton @ Sep 1st 2008 4:41PM
I concur with the logo idea.
Hyams @ Sep 1st 2008 4:42PM
Lookin' good.
Joystiq dudes: How did you guys find the level creator? Was it easy and intuitive or did you struggle with it?
Cesaria (www.cesariatic.wordpress.com) @ Sep 1st 2008 4:47PM
Wish I had a PS3 for this game. *sigh*
Imadogg @ Sep 1st 2008 9:27PM
Word, this is one of the few games I badly want to play on the PS3. And unfortunately, the one person I know that has a PS3 will not get this game...
Immortal Technique PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Sep 1st 2008 4:52PM
This game looks incredible!!!!!
Solid Snake Level here I come!!!
BananaBoat @ Sep 1st 2008 4:52PM
I need this game so badddddd.
Wiinterfang @ Sep 1st 2008 4:53PM
I like this game, I hope it comes for other console.
Hyams @ Sep 1st 2008 4:59PM
Do you enjoy being downvoted or something? :S
Anyway, no, Sony are publishing it. It's going no where but to the PS3.
ANTCEP @ Sep 1st 2008 5:16PM
@Hyams

Metal_Gear @ Sep 1st 2008 5:16PM

deaftly @ Sep 1st 2008 7:06PM
Hey, the sony boys gotta have at least 1 or 2 exclusives man.
deaftly @ Sep 1st 2008 10:42PM
Noooo, the fanboys hit me!*
*im buying LBP day 1 regardless
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Sep 1st 2008 4:54PM
Nice...but so far, I haven't seen anybody really pushing the limits of that thing.
Hey Media Molecule! You want to win over some more fans? Make a truly epic level that shows what the engine can really do then release a trailer for it.Pure win guaranteed.
Hyams @ Sep 1st 2008 5:03PM
What sort of thing are you thinking of?
Metal_Gear @ Sep 1st 2008 5:15PM
They did a presentaion with it!
Also, can you at least wait until it is released before you start looking for the limits, they have already said that the only time they 'filled' a level is when they left it playing all day at GC08 (I think) and people could add parts all day.
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Sep 1st 2008 5:31PM
I didn't see much of it, but if I recall correctly, all they did was using sales charts and other images as background walls/textures.
Impressive a bit, but hardly a challenge.
@ Hyams
I'm not thinking of anything in particular.I just want something that will blow my fucking mind right off.
I'm 120% sure that users will make such epic creations, but right now I'd love to see Molecule showcase what their baby can really do.After all name me a better advertising technique than simply creating a level that will knock you out in awe.
Immortal Technique PSN: johnnynumber5 @ Sep 1st 2008 5:38PM
The game includes many pre made levels.
spyker @ Sep 1st 2008 4:56PM
You guys need to change the site's logo to this sweet LBP one. Maybe for LBP's release. Just like how Google changes logos on certain days :D.
ushman @ Sep 1st 2008 5:03PM
Man I want this game. LBP bundle is looking good right now.
fabest @ Sep 2nd 2008 4:12AM
This seems nice, it looks good but what is the point of this level? Just roam inside freely, no goal, no gameplay?
ingestiblebulk @ Sep 1st 2008 5:17PM
wow. seriously, i'm going to have to go break in to media molecule's hq and steal a copy of this game, because i'm not sure i can wait to play it.
also, about creation time, 10 minutes doesn't seem to be that long to me, especially considering that they also made a working tank.
Macroy @ Sep 1st 2008 5:39PM
The Go! Team - "Get It Together"
In case anyone was curious.
SoxFan13 @ Sep 1st 2008 7:05PM
I WAS curious. I was going to ask if this was game music, because it's awesome!
gen-dm @ Sep 1st 2008 5:48PM
I played this game at the Edinburgh interactive festival and it is just so much fun to play. I simply cannot, with words, convey how much fun this game is to play. I just need a PS3 now.
What is the music in that movie???
Albanian_Killa @ Sep 1st 2008 6:16PM
I'm going to love this game. Going to let my imagination run wild. Limitless possibilities.
Maverick Saturn @ Sep 1st 2008 6:50PM
This game as so many possibilities, dunno what it would take other then a grenade to blow Jakka's mind, but you can colour me excited...for once in a while :D

ok this is just to cute must buy day one
PS anyone know what the preorder thing for bestbuy is yet?
Tasogare @ Sep 2nd 2008 2:40AM
What do you actually DO in this game once the levels are created? This seems like something I'd mess with for about an hour then leave to collect dust, just like every other sandbox game I've ever played.
SonofSeth @ Sep 2nd 2008 3:21AM
People who are into creating will create levels anyway, but the rest of us, untalented folk will try it out, mess with it for a while.
What is truly brilliant about the creater and everybody seem to miss it is that you can have 3 more poeple on the screen and all create something together, and then play it.
JoeTheBlow @ Sep 2nd 2008 6:42AM
Anyone else seen this yet?
Sackboy Batman and Joker!!

ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Sep 3rd 2008 3:30AM
You guys are making me want a PS3.
Solidess @ Sep 8th 2008 1:06PM
LBP is a game I just can't decide on. Some days I'm really looking forward to it, and others I'm not sure whether this will be very entertaining for long. It kinda looks like its designed for kids or people who are easy to amuse. The characters are ADORABLE, and it has the potential to really win me over, but I really don't care about putting pictures of my face in the level, or weird stickers everywhere. I hope the gameplay, besides the creation, is actually fun. I'm worried its just a little too simplistic. I have some ideas for levels I can create, but if I can't import pics or music into the game, I'm not sure my ideas will work well anyway.
Yes, I too am waiting for something more impressive to be shown to us. I really WANT to love this game! And I kinda do. I'm just worried I'm going to start getting bored with it before long.
Anyone else intriqued but not QUITE convinced yet?
