Sony promises Life with PlayStation still 'on its way'
Remember when Sony said its news-and-weather-service, Life with PlayStation, would be coming in August (after initially saying it would be coming in July)? Well, calendar-equipped readers may have noticed that August has come and gone and the service is still not available. Not to fret, though, as a post on the official PlayStation blog promises that the team is just "pushing some paperwork" on the service and asks that anticipatory fans (both of you) should "hold tight just a bit longer."
The post also reveals that the free service will integrate with Folding@Home, so users can help Stanford researchers as they're scanning the headlines. Let's see CNN.com do that!

Wait a minute joystiq.
Are you telling me something Sony related won't be available by the date they initially claimed?
rTwelve [xbl:chilblane] @ Sep 1st 2008 4:05PM
CNN.com gives me news and weather without the need to buy a Blu-ray player!

j.howlett @ Sep 1st 2008 4:24PM
i can already get news and weather on my bluray player and with a slim chance of running into german secret super weapon wolfblitzer. who am i kidding i love that guy with the room
MetalGearsOfSolidWar @ Sep 2nd 2008 5:49AM
Who cares?
I'll just turn on the weather channel or watch the news.
LWP is stupid, i'm more concerned about HOME.
dxprog @ Sep 1st 2008 4:27PM
It didn't even take Nintendo that long to bring out the weather and news channels.
Extinction @ Sep 1st 2008 6:50PM
PS3 launched with it already, it's called a webbrowser
DigDug @ Sep 1st 2008 4:28PM
"asks that anticipatory fans (both of you) should "hold tight just a bit longer.""
What's with the article written by immature kids here these days. Pretty pathetic if you ask me. You expect this trash on XboxLive, seems it's also Joystiq bloggers are also 12yr old kids too..
WhatIsThatThing @ Sep 1st 2008 5:00PM
Oh yeah, I forgot about the throngs of people who can't look outside to see the weather or get the newspaper and want to get them on their $400+ game system. I know I've been waiting for it!
WhoMe @ Sep 1st 2008 5:19PM
It's called Blogger's Snark, which, depending on the love for the platform the post is about they will use at their discretion.
This way, don't sound like fanboys TOO much.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Sep 1st 2008 4:31PM
AWESOME! I've been looking for one because I have no life!
ANTCEP @ Sep 1st 2008 4:31PM
delaystation 3 lololololol
Lionbacker @ Sep 1st 2008 4:35PM
Shut up. Do you even own a PS3?
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Sep 1st 2008 4:47PM
Before you downvote him, I'd like to point out there hasn't been a Delaystation joke since like some kind of a FF13 delay.
...so, IT'S STILL FUNNAY!!!
DigDug @ Sep 1st 2008 4:58PM
More kids. Isn't it their bedtime yet?
DangerMouse @ Sep 1st 2008 4:59PM
It sounds better than CancellationStation 3, which is even more devastating.
KarlW @ Sep 1st 2008 4:32PM
I'm not really excited about this. I don't know if any other PS3 owners are.
If it overlaid material in widgets, say over PlayTV or Blu-Ray movies, or over games, then I'd be excited.
Something to do during those installations, anyway.
arkweld @ Sep 1st 2008 8:34PM
Nope. Wasn't excited when this was announced and less excited now, if that's possible.
I'd like it if Sony just kept their mouth shut until the day something is released. That way I won't have time to become less enthused when it's delayed or canceled.
Cesaria (www.cesariatic.wordpress.com) @ Sep 1st 2008 4:45PM
The PS3 is like this weird Frankenstein of gaming. It just wants to be everything the others offer. I find it strange.
j.howlett @ Sep 1st 2008 4:54PM
playstation has always had multi functionality. and it's not the blatant me too machine
DangerMouse @ Sep 1st 2008 5:11PM
Then what would a PC be to gaming?
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Sep 1st 2008 5:39PM
The Omnipotent God.
Replica23 @ Sep 1st 2008 6:50PM
The simple truth is Sony has a device they own, directly selling to you film, TV & and video game IPs they own while profiting from other non-Sony products being sold on an optical format they co-own or over an online service they own. The PS3 could become a linchpin for the HD-era, especially since it has a fully supported flavour of Linux in Yellow Dog, essentially making it a computer in addition to a home theatre hub.
Californian @ Sep 1st 2008 5:20PM
Well, I'm one of the two who have been waiting for this. I want this about half as much as I want Home, and I want Home like people stranded in the Sahara Desert for 6 days want water. Well, maybe not that bad, but you get the point. I can't wait for Life with PlayStation!
atrimus @ Sep 1st 2008 5:25PM
what ever happened to that whole uploading game play videos to youtube thing? oh, this is about Life with Playstation.... my bad.
j.howlett @ Sep 1st 2008 5:56PM
you can do that in pixeljunk eden now.
kidfiasco @ Sep 1st 2008 10:55PM
honestly u guys are lame. its just something else to add to the ps3s capabilities why are u guys bitching so much.it doesnt negate anything it just added another bullet on the box.folding at home, blu ray(best), internet, games, music, dl movies(US), storage,dl games, dl themes, ability to install linux, and now news and weather, watch tv(EU additional device needed), eventually HOME. u cant add anything without someone throwing shit around. not posting to impress nor inform because i own one of these modern day Swiss army knife, but to send a big shut the fuck up to those who come into the post just to complain about a system they dont have. WTF blu ray won get over it some of u guys are still holdin out. for what? so u can play ur dvds on the big 60 inch flat panel 1080p tfuckinv? u guys count pixels but wont buy a blu ray player b/c u cant bare to pull away from MS or nintendos tit or ding a ling(yeah i said it arf arf im a big dog. i wish i could of added a couple more f bombs to bring my point across clearer)....
hacktek @ Sep 2nd 2008 11:36AM
Too bad folding@home is screwed for me (freezes on loading), guess this won't work then.
Ludovic @ Sep 2nd 2008 4:20AM
Thanks Joystiq. Frank and I were wondering about this one.
