I wasn't sure what was going on but it looked cool nonetheless.

"Gravity", "Bye-bye", and... some word that I thought I caught before, now have forgotten, and might've just been misheard (y'know, like those Misheard Lyrics videos on teh YouTubes); prolly more Engrish that I wasn't paying attention to. Coupled with that screen jam-packed with English before the battle, and... I could definitely see this getting to American (and European, I guess) shores without too much incident.

not be that graphics guy. but i don't know maybe it was my time with ps1 valkyrie profile. but wow the graphics on that are bad. i would have though they would have at least upped the sprite animations or something those are so tiny and the animation is terrible. Seriously compare this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Vpbattle.JPG

to what was shown... I was my understanding that the DS was roughly the N64 in power and if the ps1 can run that kinda power this why can't the DS?

PS. hope this isn't a double post the damn comment system is messed up

Its not the system fault, mostly is because of what the designer decide to do.

I'm pretty sure designers didn't want to meddle much with scrolling, hence the little sprites on the screen so they could fit everything on 1 screen

But still, doesn't look that good to me

Shmeh, I'm not too impressed... The sprites, animations and backgrounds were all butt ugly. Special mention to the way too animated idling animations. It's like they're all trying to dance without moving their feet.

But apart from that, the gameplay looks like it largely runs itself while you occasionally poke it in the right direction - I can see it appealing to the Japanese market, but personally - meh.

I haven't played the second game in the series, but I have the first. Assuming they haven't significantly changed things, it's more active than it seems: the first Valkyrie Profile game involved juggling attacks (each character being represented by a button, you get X number of attacks per character, nonsense like that), chaining combos, and charging up the meter to do what you saw above. For what it's worth, there's a large degree of interaction involved. (Once again, this is assuming the formula hasn't been significantly overhauled.)

....

That being said and done, I fully agree with you on the sprites, animations, and backgrounds. Yeesh. The trailer, and most likely the game itself, has totally been flogged by the ugly stick.

It reminds me of Golden Sun sprites. I like the gameplay, but the characters so far look very unoriginal
