When asked if he'd fulfilled his vision for Fable II, Peter Molyneux gave the title "9 out of 10," reports CVG. The developer explained that it's the "best, most complete game" he's done, expressing his happiness with how the game looks and plays.
Molyneux supports his excitement over Fable II by acknowledging his mistakes from the past. He explains that Black & White, The Movies, and "pretty much every game [he's] ever done," had interesting features tossed in without looking at what the final experience would be like. After more than a decade-long streak of making "brilliant but flawed" games, we'll be happy if Molyneux can finally shed that image with his latest work.

Sensationalist headlines FTL.

That's not a game rating, you dummies. He rated how well he did on fulfilling his vision.

If he was rating the game, he'd have given it the ultra-exclusive "11" rating. You know how most games only go to 10? Yeah, his goes to 11 baby. Suck it.
Really though, are we so cynical that we'd think a 9/10 game is BAD? If he was rating it, and he gave it a 9, would that be a bad thing?

This is evocative of when Hideo gave MGS4 a 9/10 or some such slightly less than perfect score.

I hope it's not a complete waste of time... I bought into the Fable hype, it actually led to my purchase of an Xbox (bad decision, because I'm mostly an RPG fan). Now I have both the 360 and PS3, so it's not that big of an issue anymore, but still... I was actually thinking that Too Human is what Fable should have been more like, and I enjoyed Too Human much more than Fable.

Wha? I'm an RPG fan as well, and am very surprised to hear a fellow RPGer say they liked too human more than fable. I mean, statistically speaking you probably existed, but the chances...
I actually replayed fable this weekend (2nd play through, a rarity for me) and very much enjoyed it. Elaborate on what you didn't like about the first one, and how you felt the second was different enough to justify a console purchase?

I didn't say Too Human is worth a console purchase, just that I liked it better than Fable. I think the combat system is better (sliding, juggling, ruiners, spiders, battle cries, large scale battles), the character skill evolution is better (Playing through Too Human multiple times is fun because I can choose different trees to go down, which leads to different fighting styles that are actually effective. I played Fable a second time to try a different alignment, but it did not seem worthwhile to try a different tree, because imo, focusing on spells or ranged combat led to a crappy character), the weapon choices are better (subjective, I feel that I had more choices in Too Human in weapon types, and that they had a better range of differences that again, were actually effective), and the armor choices are equal. I feel that Too Human's story is simultaneously weaker (beginning) and stronger (end) than Fable. Overall, I think Too Human is a better game.

What...? Why should Fable have been anything like Too Human? All Fable needed was to be longer, more open ended and more fulfilling. Ignoring the hype, the first game was great, if this is simply a bigger and better version of that, I'm sold.
He hasn't been hyping this one up to extreme levels, and we have a much better idea of what to expect this time.

Like I wrote...
If the combat system was more like Too Human, it would have been cool.
If the skill tree choices were more like Too Human (different choices leading to EFFECTIVE characters), it would have been cool.
If the weapon choices were more like Too Human (different choices leading to EFFECTIVE destruction), it would have been cool.
I had actually forgotten that I was seriously disappointed by how long (short) the gameplay was, and although Too Human isn't any longer, at least replay value is better due to a more complex character development as detailed above.

You're both wrong; Oblivion pwns all! It combines the setting and themes of Fable with the comprehensive weapon and armor customization of Too Human, it's also got that whole open-ended thing down pat. Oblivion is the game Fable only wishes it could be. Too Human won't even get the chance to wish it was Oblivion, since Fallout 3 is coming out soon and THAT is the game Too Human wishes it could be, as well as wishing it was Bioshock, who wishes it were more like Fable II. But again, Oblivion doesn't wish it was anything, since it already IS what it is...

I disagree. Seiken Densetsu III, the sequel to Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu II in Japan) which was never released outside of Japan was better in my opinion.

You should be humble when you first start out...
Why be humble though when you've been lauded by critics and gamers alike? Should Bungie or Nintendo be humble when they've already created some of the most successful games of all time?
If I'm known as one of the best widget makers, would you seriously expect me to say my next widget is OK? No, if I said that you're response would be, "This guy makes the best widgets of all time and he only rates his next as 'OK'!?"
I personally think a majority of the gamers who speak up on blog comments should go f**k themselves... including myself once in a while, but I'm pretty awesome so it's very rare that I should as opposed to the majority of you asswipes.
Thanks for playing!

Resume: D dogg is awesome so give up hope because you can't be as cool as him oh yeah and he might have some sort of opinion about this.
I lol'd.
I don't know you but when a developer says his game isn't perfect the message I get is not “Look how humble I am” but “It turned out to be more or less what we expected”.

Here's a li'l handy/helpful note; when someone ends their wee rant thats too long for people to be bothered reading in full anyway, with 'thanks for playing!', you know that person's a wanker.
(& yeah, don't be givin' props to wanksters, it only encourages their business-arm).

He peaked with populous and populous 2. Everything since then has been about the "user experience" and "truly experiencing life within the game" when in fact they were solid 7.5 games.
Can a lead designer not simply come out and say "this is going to be a fun game" instead of trying to be philosophical and explain how this game will change the way we see things?

Hee hee! I think he's such a funny guy. I love how he gets all excited about his games!
Molyneux absolutely loves what he does. I guess things would be a lot more boring if people didn't get enthusiastic about things.
