Official PS3 headset (minus SOCOM) priced in Japan
The standalone version of the official PS3 headset has been given a price of ¥5000 ($46) on PlayStation.com in Japan. The headset, which will also be packaged in a $60 SOCOM Confrontation bundle, will also be released as a standalone product in North America. We're expecting official details about the standalone headset's price and release date very soon.
Depending on the headset's price in North America, it could become Sony's answer to Wii Play. If the earpiece's standalone price ends up being equivalent to the price in Japan, for $10-15 more it's probably worth just getting the SOCOM bundle (if you have even the slightest interest in the series). If the headset is $40 or less, the $20 difference sounds like it could be used to finance some other product in the glut of this holiday season.

I have the MGS4 headset. It's pretty sweet
WhoMe @ Sep 2nd 2008 8:16PM
Did you get it to work in the single player game? You know, where you get the codec calls via your BT headset?
Didn't work for me when I tried it (Warhawk headset, not that I think that matters?).

I honestly didn't know that the headset was supposed to work like that. I never really use it while playing games haha. I just it in the real world. A Bluetooth headset makes me feel nerdy enough... Add Metal Gear Rex head onto the set... Can't beat the neary-ness there! Go me!!

"Depending on the headset's price in North America, it could become Sony's answer to Wii Play."
WTF?
Anyway, I would look to the Warhawk bundle if you want to divine the pricing. (Which, as it happens, it still totally awesome, what with the new JETPACKS and all.)

Yeah Sherlock I know what Wii Play is and its effect. :p
I stand by my WTF on account that it is totally different.

I, like almost everyone on PSN, need a headset. I might pick this up.

I use my Karaoke Revolution one... that's right.
Titanium_Orchid @ Sep 2nd 2008 8:27PM
If this headset had noise cancellation I might have picked it up (I like the cradle). I'll keep using my Jawbone though, as I sit about 10 feet away from my TV.
MuToiD_MaN @ Sep 2nd 2008 8:33PM
Does the Jawbone work well with the PS3? I have one as well and would enjoy not having to buy a headset.
Titanium_Orchid @ Sep 2nd 2008 8:54PM
It seems to work well. I haven't heard any complaints from the people I'm playing with and the synchronization was easy.
The only problem I've noticed is that sometimes I will hear an echo of my own voice. I don't know if the people I'm playing with can hear this. I also don't know if this is a problem with the Jawbone or a problem with something else.
As a side note, because the jawbone is charged via USB, you can quickly pop it into the PS3 if you are running low on power.
Vazquez @ Sep 2nd 2008 8:33PM
Yeah, ill probably pick that up when it comes out.
j.howlett @ Sep 2nd 2008 8:40PM
i'll be getting the bundle for the game and mic with the mute button. i have several BT headsets in the house from cell phones and the usb headset from socom 2 with the mute button. i like the cradle function as well
Metal_Gear @ Sep 2nd 2008 8:45PM
I was going to buy this seperatly (PS3 and Mobile Phone headset in one) but getting this game for not very much more, may aswell get that and see how the game is, if it sucks, you can always sell it and get a pretty good chunk of cash back.
Solid Chief @ Sep 2nd 2008 9:36PM
Looks nice. But I hate all headsets so far.
