Finally! Sony has announced that the long-awaited PSP Wi-Fi Store, which allows players to purchase and download content directly on the PSP (without the need for a PC or PS3), will be available this Fall in Japan. Most likely, this will be global simultaneous launch. To commemorate the opening of the new Store, a free downloadable game, Mainichi Issyo Portable, will be available to all.
In addition, Sony has announced that a new feature will allow players to connect their PSP to their PS3 systems and enable a new Infrastructure mode for certain games. For example, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G will be online-enabled through the PS3. In addition, players will be able to add text and voice chatting capabilities through this service. Additional details will be revealed at a later date.
It looks like Sony isn't falling asleep with the PSP. Let's hope concrete release dates for these services will be available soon.

This sounds good and all but with Sony you never know until its out on the PSN. This could get pushed back so many times that people just forget about it like Home and Life with Playstation and so many other things Sony has promised would be out by now and isn't.

I'm excited about the wifi store, but how about text and voice chat WITHOUT needing to buy a separate 400+ piece of equipment? I don't have a PS3, and have no intention of getting one soon.

I never intend to own a PS3 so this bit of news is pretty rubbish. Why can't Sony continue to have games developed with the normal infrastructure mode included? It works well enough - and all PSP gamers have access to that through any wireless signal - but by making it work through a PS3 they are excluding so many PSP owners straight away.
I really hope that Sony rethink this one...
The PSN Store on the PSP thing is great news though!

The game, 'Everyday Together Portable', is literally unplayable without the ability to speak japanese. It's a 'choose what you say' kind of game. Everything is in japanese, so with no idea what your saying, or doing, there is not much point in getting this game.....
But I'm still getting it ^__^

I wonder if I will finally be able to buy at PSN Store...
I mean, I live in Brazil. Why the heck I can't buy from PSN Store? It's just sad ._." I don't think it's much trouble for them to allow people from other countries to download demos and buy games from them... nah, let's just give them excuses to use piracy... -_-"

I'm from Brazil too, and there is a way. :3 All you need is a Visa International. Get yourself a virtual credit card on www.entropay.com and voila \o/

My prediction: DELAYED UNTIL 2009!
Let's hope I'm wrong on this though, my PSN Downloader has stopped working and I can't DL games off of the store.

Yep, apparently it's been hitting a few people, though no one really knows what's wrong or how to fix it. I've been to the Official PSP forums with no luck, even from the mods.
I'm hoping that it gets released this fall in North America as well.

Same with me-- my PSN downloader just stopped working out of the blue.
Last time I checked, there was no HELP link at the PSN site... which is moronic. So i phoned Sony Playstation tech support, they told me, "Well, guess you just can't use it then"
Nice.

But what's a WiFi store without some decent games for Europe and the US? Please announce some classics Sony!

This is great news for me, since I only use Mac computers! Now I'll actually start using this service!

So, I guess this means we'll be getting the unified PSN sign in. You'll need to sign in to the store to pay for downloads, so they may well be integrating the PSN sign in to the PSP XMB. Which means checking your friends list and sending messages online.

I just find it sad that it took all this time to get this sort of service. The PSP has been out well over 3 years.
And I'll reserve outright excitement until I see the lineup of downloadable content.

Can ppl with CFW access the store and buy stuff?
Posted: Sep 2nd 2008 11:57PM (Unverified) said
Yes. I bought flOw from the PC Store.
If you are talking about the Wi-Fi store then I would assume so. You just have to wait a bit longer for Dark AleX to create CFW for the firmware that will have the Wi-Fi store.

Finally! I can't believe it took this long to have this functionality. The online through the PS3 is an awesome addition that no one was expecting. Can't wait for more details.
