Looks like they weren't just blowing smoke when people mentioned the control scheme at E3. It's good to know that Capcom is willng to change to compete with the rest of the world.

Yes! Thank God. I wouldn't be able to stand the game with its old control scheme. If you're going to make the game fast-paced, you can't have our character control like a lumbering, slow tank. Hooray for strafing!

Tell that to MGS4.

Seriously, I loved that game. But sometimes during the non-stealth sections it just felt weird controlling this sloooooowwww ass guy who's top speed was one third my jogging speed.

Is it just me or is this new comment system COMPLETELY broken on this website. It never remembers my email address and NEVER sends me an email when someone replies to my comments. Is this happening for everyone!

Any chance of this getting fixed guys?

being that RE4 pretty much invented the over shoulder view I see no problem from them now borrowing from those who borrowed from them. this game looks amazing and will offer 360 owners something that even gears 2 will not be able to bring to the table. I can't wait for both!

the team said they are pretty big fans of Gears of War. i like that they introduce what they enjoy and what others enjoy instead of keeping it "old school".

in Gears, when you aim and zoom in, your view becomes closer and 'over the shoulder'. that is where the term 'over the shoulder' comes from. that is why both RE4 and Gears share 'over the shoulder' control schemes.

...over the shoulder!

Gears IS over the shoulder - CliffyB said it himself on his Emergence Day message - maybe still on Marketplace.

I dunno...I'm skeptical. As excellent as RE4 was, it definitely made the series more action-oriented and less horror-themed. I'm not sure that adding Gears-style controls would befit the series. And part of the tension was created by the very fact that you couldn't strafe or somersault or whatnot. I don't want my single favorite series to become a twitch shooter like every other action game out there. (Don't get me wrong, I like Gears, but it's not RE4.)

I guess im in the minority of missing the survival horror genre. There is a severe lack of zombie games. It use to be you could hear the Resident Evil and think of zombies and puzzles. Now its just another action game. I'm sure the game will be decent tho.

I'm sure the game will be decent, but a disappointment no less in my book.

I hope there are portions of the game where you just walk around town in your skin tight muscle shirt and fingerless gloves, jibber-jabbering on your bluetooth headset and random civilians just start attacking you for being such a douche.

Moving while shooting? What sorcery is this? Everyone knows when zombies are comes towards you, you stand perfectly still in place before you can start shooting.

IGN seem to be making some assumptions here.

Kotaku says "While he [Takeuchi] didn't go into any great detail about the changes, he did refer to them as "Gears-like" controls."

So I would expect to see some movement ability while aiming. Doesn't mean we're getting a cover system, though. Hopefully not.

To be fair, I think you mean "Kill.Switch" inspired cover system. That game did it first.
