SOCOM beta confronted by delay
30
Over at the official PlayStation Blog, SOCOM: Confrontation producer Seth Luisi has confirmed a massive or slight delay (depending on your level of SOCOM infatuation) for the game's public beta. Originally slated to begin yesterday, the virtual doors will instead open this Friday, September 5. (QORE subscribers will be let in the following Friday, September 12.)
Luisi says the delay was prompted by the team "working so hard to ensure the final product is fantastic," which we believe is Ye Olde Spinne for "we found a bug." Thankfully (and thoughtfully) the beta's run won't be cut short by the delay; it will last a full month, from 9/5 to 10/5. (Make that three weeks for QOREreaders viewers.)

None existant delay for me, I am just getting this for the earpiece mainly, then again, I may try it as this will be the closest thing to MAG.

This is nothing like MAG. It's more tactical than MAG will be. More close quarters fights compared to the huge wars MAG will have. Sad so many people are overlooking this game and only getting it for the headset. Don't buy it at all if you're coming with that attitude. This game should get a serious look by gamers. I'm sick of how people overlook amazing titles like this.

It's delayed by the fact that it looks weak.. Look at that pic.. I'm sorry, but shouldnt they try to be on par with COD4 graphics?? This is the cell were working with right??

Is this where we are at? Complaining about a tiny screenshot that could have come from any point in development before the beta is even released? Next step is bitching about concept art graphics and rough sketches.

It shouldn't be considered an open beta if you have to preorder to get in. An open beta should be when you can just go somewhere and sign up for free and you're instantly in.

A little late to the party guys :P Anyway, I'm getting this game day one. The reason I bought a PS3 at launch (I assumed a SOCOM PS3 game was at work). SOCOM II on the PS2 made PS2 online gaming and the PSN what it is today. Very underrated title, and very amazing title. Call of Duty 4 has nothing on SOCOM if we're talking about realistic modern-military combat. I don't think any game has. SOCOM? More like SoCrack :P Beta is so close I can taste it lol Can't wait to play with my fellow SOCOMers I haven't played with in a long time.

Hey genius, that image is from a year ago. There's a huge difference in graphics today. And don't mention COD4 with SOCOM. COD4 has nothing realistic in it. It's just an arcade shooter with respawning (Search and Destroy only. Weak). SOCOM has no respawn (except for a practice respawn mode. Not ranked though) and 95% of games are non-respawn. And it actually has a realistic damage system, health bar with no magical healing, and a realistic damage system (2 shots in the head for a guy who has Juggernaut on? Please. Realism my ass).

If you have COD4 and haven't tried the Hardcore online game modes yet, I would suggest checking them out.
My thoughts on COD4 multi player (waaay to chaotic in my opinion) were similar to yours before I tried the hardcore game variants.

ok heres the latest screens from Sony:
http://socom.us.playstation.com/page/screenshots.aspx
and yes, i admit, they look better than the one above. but overall have a look of being dated. honestly looks like some pc shooter.
in all honesty though, it would be a welcome addition.

well, I called up Gamestop and it looks like i've been jipped. The rep told me that "it's showing we are out of those codes at this time," and had no answer when I questioned why their wasn't any sort of notification about that when ordering online. I asked about canceling the order, and it seems that since I chose in store pickup they can't cancel my order. My best bet is to go to the store and hopefully be able to accomplish it in person, at which case they would probably charge me the restocking fee anyway.

you are correct tronn4, the Graphics look outdated.
The war-torn streets have nothing on COD4, The building with the bird in the corner looks RIPPED off from COD4 (the flashback sniper mission), and for some reason it looks Perfect Dark-ish, and thats not a good thing..
Just my opinion.. Besides, No one MENTIONED COD4 GAMEPLAY, just GRAPHICS... Ya'll do know the difference, right??
SoCrack?? LOL, more like SoLong or SoWhat... Big deal...

I don't think the many fans of this game will care what the graphics look like or how it compares to Call of Duty 4. I for one am just glad Socom will be available to play.
Besides, what you are looking at here is a PSN title, as far as I remember, COD4 was a Blu-ray title with campaign and not just single player mode, you don't even know what Socom 3 will look like and you're comparing this to COD4? You're a funny guy, yaknow that?

jeez... We all know there's plenty of room for lots of war games. SOCOM has always been epic online. No reason why this can't be fun for a few months until the next one comes out. Is it a big deal? I hate Halo 3 but I respect how others like it and enjoy it. I simply say 'It's not for me' and move on. You're just betraying how much you hate PS3-related things, it's pointless and it's a silly look to complain about SOCOM. Just don't play it.

i think we're mixing two issues.
one is graphics and the other is gameplay.
as Maverick Saturn shows, there will be people who play it for its gameplay
and as HB96st states, there will be stones thrown at the graphics of this title.
I thought this was going to be a full on blu-ray disc title, Maverick, and correct me if I'm wrong, but there are 50GB available for this title. So why not beef up the graphics? Is the developer so rushed from Sony to get this out this year before X-mas so Sony can have Little Big Planet and SOCOM for the holidays?
I think they are. And I think it sucks 'cause it (SOCOM) is looking pretty lackluster when it should be having more spit-n-polish.
Still, people familiar with SOCOM and its gameplay will buy it, without a doubt, for its core gameplay.

They pushed blu-ray instead of games
socom looks weak
