While we're glad to see Final Fantasy Agito XIII head to PSP, we're saddened to hear that this online-enabled RPG may only arrive in the distant future. According to an interview with Tetsuya Nomura (translated by FinalFantasyXIII.net), the PSP addition to the Final Fantasy XIII universe will arrive after the two other PS3 games: Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII. The reason for this? According to Nomura, there's simply too much content in the game. The "lengthy story" and "large amount of characters" makes it one of PSP's most ambitious titles yet.
Final Fantasy XIII will not debut until 2009 -- and who knows when Versus XIII will release? It looks like for the time being, Agito won't be on our radar until well beyond 2009, into at least 2010. Ouch.

I am not surprised - we always wait for SquareEnix.

Is that a screenshot?
If so, it looks pretty cool... weird vibe to it, with the school look though. I wonder what sort of story it is?

Who cares, the PSP will be long dead.
No Seriously, by then, we should have de PSP-5000 with built in hand heaters, liquid metal mimmetic poly-alloy screen.

1.5 years an optimistic forecast, guys. Versus XIII's development is almost *halted* right now because all effort is being put into XIII. Then they have to switch the effort to the 360 version of the game. THEN, Versus XIII. And *THEN* Agito XIII. Shitsux is the best way I can put it.

By the time it comes out, I'll probably be tired of hearing about it. Games should not be announced so early.

Games shouldn't be announced this early. Keeping these games secret and releasing rumours about the game would be good way to sell games, by building up the hype, then announce the game a few months before release.....

I'm pretty sure that would actually sell a hell of a lot more units than by announcing it super early, since it'll be new and cool and everyone would want it.
Take Haze for example, when it was coming out in November everyone wanted to get it, though the questionable previews had shaken some people. However when the game got delayed until January people lost interest and not many people bought the game.
I dunno how announcing games super early works in the business model sense.

i dont understand SquareEnix. what the hell is the point of announcing a game that you know is not going to come out for close to 2 years from now? what can you possibly gain except frustrations and disinterest from your customers?

On the Haze point, Haze was crap... that's what happened, it wasnt because of the delay.
I say good on u square, they always put out a good quality product, and if the only way they can do that is to take time, then the should take it.

This FF instalment "will arrive after the two other PS3 games" because there's "too much content"? What does SE know that we don't about future versions of the PSP?

It's Final Fantasy. People are already rabid about it. Hell, I'm excited about Final Fantasy XX. I just like Final Fantasy, is all (except for XII).
