I used to talk to Adam Sessler way back in the late 90's on the techtv message boards all the time. Back when, you know, techtv was only on dish network and the network was heading into its hayday.

It's about time! Xplay, and AOTS are the only shows G4 has.

The problem with Xplay now is that the first few minutes are wasted showing you what the show will be about.

Then they fill you in on the news that is essentially what was posted on Joystiq and Kotaku 8 to 24 hours earlier.

A few more are wasted on those dumb little intros they play for every segment (classic G4 assery that they do on all of their shows for no reason other than to kill time).

Add in some dumb video viewer mail questions that I can never understand due to the poor quality of the connection the webcam person has. Of course, when you can hear the question it's something dumb anyhow like "Do you think Uwe will make that game into a movie?"

They then do around 5 minutes of useful reviews at best and then follow up the show with their dumb replay thing because they think we are all too dumb to remember what just happened in the previous minutes of the show.

Add an interview with somebody which is usually painful to watch....I personally like Adam and Morgan but their interviewing skills are terrible. Take away the tele-prompter and they don't do so well.

Rinse. Repeat.

The show used to be better...and I don't mean those crappy little skits they do. Okay, a few were funny but most were dumb...like they thought them up when drunk...when the skits were funny but to those who weren't in on the joke they aren't so funny.

Bring back Electric Playground and Judgement Day...they were a little more informative at least.

Reviews on the run + Electric playground > X-play

Some of you apparently haven't watched the show since years ago. Stupid skits used to be the bread and butter of the show to fill in time between game reviews before they put that aside in their revamp of the show's format. X-play as it is now still has its irreverence, but they've put more effort in covering videogames in general, whether it's the games, it's industry, or the community that surrounds said games. The PAX 10 coverage they had recently comes to mind.

Their current problem now is the lack of airtime to cover said material. The change to an hour-long format will definitely work in their favor.

I prefer the new show layout over the old. Sure, the old layout was good, but it just got TOO MUCH towards the end. Too much spastic sketches, and not enough games. I like the new format; I think its good that the show now seems to take games with a bit of seriousness. The ONLY problem I’ve had with the new show format is that I’ve always felt it was too short at 30 min episodes. They didn’t really have TIME to do anything…no really good interviews, or longer reviews, and such. I’ve always thought that the show should have been extended to 1 hour length episodes. The only thing I’m unsure of now, is that the above says 1 hour long WEEKEND NIGHT episodes. So, does that mean that X-Play would go from 5 nights a week, to just TWO nights a week? ONE hour long episode each weekend night? Because if so, I think that would be even worse and more lousy than the 30 minute daily episodes. Over all time cut down by 30 minutes does NOT sound like an improvement to me.

On another note, Adam Sessler is the gaming man as far as I'm concerned. :-) I've seen him in interveiws, and on plenty of other G4 things, and he really does seem to ENJOY being a gamer. He plays, he likes. He's enthusiastic in his comments, and you can tell her really has a passion for the gaming industry. G4 (or any gaming programming) needs more hosts like Adam to spread around. Morgn, while hot, I find pretty MEH when it comes to the gaming side. I could be wrong, but she just doesn't seem to put the spirit into the business that Adam does, I think. Kevin and AOTS are okay, but they've moved a lot away from gaming/tech and on to stupid YouTube videos, etc. The show just has seemed to lose a lot of the focus it used to have, in my own opinion. Which is a shame, because AOTS was one of only 3 shows I really used to watch on G4: AOTS, X-Play, and Ninja Warrior (who doesn't love ninja's in training?). Now, AOTS is pretty much replaced with Unbeatable Banzuke! Love that show. :)

G4: Not for gamers anymore.
Why the hell did they put "Cheaters" and "Cops" on G4 why don't you put another crappy CSI show on while your at it. They're doing what Nintendo is doing. They're focusing on the casual gamers because there are more of them and they get more money, but since you got rid of the true gamers your screwing yourself over because the hardcore gamers keep video game companies alive. Ever since they screwed up G4 I haven't seen as many new gamers as there once were you're killing the franchise and I hope your ashamed of that.

Casual gamers will buy crap that you can make in a month and I know that hardcore gamers desire better quality and an actually GOOD game, but it's much more rewarding to work on a game that you put millions into and will cost up to $60 per disk(In U.S. dollars) then that 5 grand game that you did on a side job that cost $3 that some workaholic will put in their P.C. So they don't kill everyone in the office from boredom(Those games do have "some" importance though.)

Whatever ever happened to making games to entertain people? Why did it change to all about the money? Those hardcore gamers bought those nes's and sega's, they started the video game industry and the least they deserve is a few games once in awhile. I'm glad that Microsoft is all for Hardcore gamers and Sony is "Kind of" trying to do that.

G4 I hate you know and Xplay(The best show on your network, which is terribly worse then it's old episodes) is a sad hobo on the street that once was an amazing human being.

Actually, I wouldn't say they are going for "casual" gamers. The majority of G4 are going for more of a SpikeTV Lite I think, with shows like Cops and Cheaters. Most gamers I know who watch the channel still watch AOTS, G4, and the Japanese imported shows. The ones that appeal to the "geek" in you. :-) The other shows are trying to draw in the "hip" Spike crowd, which I can do without. :-P

I fully agree with Highlar, heck if gaming blogs can fill 2 or more pages a day with content, X-play can probably do an hour long show. But I truly love that when ever X-play is mentioned, the comments always go back to "wah, I liked the old version" or "wah...G4 is crap, cuz they don't have the old TechTV shows anymore."

Come on, G4 knows that you old-skool nerds don't watch TV anyway, since you're too busy trolling forums whining about G4 and streaming Revision3.

I usually mock Morgan for her manjaw, but she actually looks pretty cute in this picture. I hope it's not a photoshop trick.

I don't know why there's all this hate-speech on here.
From complaining about Adam's hair, Morgans face (which is incredibly cute, btw) and their preferences on specific video games, it just seems to me that people, gamers in particular, have lost any sense of kindness, or consideration for other people. They're gamers, they rate games based on their opinion. If you don't agree, that's fine. Go and pick up another gaming magazine, or read a gaming blog or website, like 1up. That's all fine. Eventually, you'll find someone who will agree with you. But to bash someone on such pointless things like a receding hair line, or what have you, just makes ALL gamers look like inconsiderate jerks.

Best wishes to Morgan and Adam, congrats on the new position Adam, and I'll keep watching X-Play and AOTS. Everyone else can just keep bashing.

I don't get why everyone was against the sketches. It was amazing hearing inside internet and gaming jokes on TV. Now it's too stiff.

I like hearing serious reviews too, but they need to add the humor again. Even if it's not in the reviews.

ok first off. i don't think X-Play is bad. true they moved away from the funny but it was getting old (i don't laugh at the jokes that much any more). secondly making reviews AFTER the game is released is what MOST people do. plus i don't have a game so it keeps me informed. 2nd cheat ROCKS. they give you not only cheats but screen shots and gameplay of the cheats. helps what game you want. true it souldn't be in x-play but eh who cares. things change, people get upset over change. but what do i say. get over it. x-play is giving what it's supost to give. good reviews of released games.
