Major Nelson's LIVE activity report for the week of Aug. 25 shows that Alien Hominid HD made a comeback on the charts. We're guessing it's thanks to The Behemoth's other game, Castle Crashers, which took the top activity spot for arcade titles (and the #7 spot overall) during the week -- despite players having connectivity issues.
Alien Hominid HD's resurgence a year and a half after release probably has quite a bit to do with the pimping it received in Castle Crashers. Not only is AH's main character unlockable, but there's also an entire level dedicated to it. And it helps that both games are a lot of fun, right?

Guys it's not the Live activity when it comes to Arcade games. That chart is based on Full versions of XBLA games purchased. So it wasn't the live activity that went up for alien hominid, it was sales. Castle crashers drove sales for alien hominid. Probably because the alien is a playable character in castle crashers if you unlock one achievement in alien hominid.

What the smart dude is stating is that individuals bought alien hominid to get the achievement to unlock the character the easy way...

What there is another way you can unlock alien Hominid?
About Alien Hominid well I never liked the graphics but it included alot of minigames unlike Castle Crashers.Even Soviet Missile was fun to play compared to All you can Glork.
The gameplay was very solid but I wish the price of some Xbox live titles dropped.

I had some friends over and they, my girlfriend, and I got into quite a bit of Castle Crashers. After a long, long time I switched gears and brought them over to play PDA Games on Alien Hominid. Would've played the single player if it had 4-player co-op. But that'd be a lot to pay attention to.

Whats the deal with both these games?, played them both after all the hype, and can't see anything about them that would make them a worthwhile purchase..........
Things like this seem to go over my head, almost like Goldenaxe et al but with spanky cel graphics......

Well probably because you are ether 12 and never played any classic games, or you're a bitter little troll with a PS3.

What games are you playing? Both the games you are dissing are two of the best Arcade games on XBLA. If you not into side scroller/beat up ups than you might not like these games right? Same reason you don't buy puzzle games if you don't like puzzles.

I have to say I didn't expect much from Castle Crashers, I've been ignoring all the hype and was completely turned off when they announced the price. However, after five minutes of playing the trial, I turned it off and purchased the full version. It's easily one of the best games released this year, not just including downloadable games.
Alien Homminid on the other hand, I still can't really get into.

I don't understand why Golden Axe is the comparison of choice for people crapping on Castle Crashers, when it's much more in line with river city ransom, comix zone, and a ton of more advanced beat 'em ups.

Well I say GOOD! The more money and attention few indie guys get making risky titles the better. I mean think about trying to sell a 2D, scrolling beat-em-up to publishers today. The fact it's better then a certain title that's been festering for 10 years is icing on a partially sweet cake.
My only worry is that the will get TOO much attention, and fall under the gaze of the likes of EA form the top of their twisted tower of evil.
PS: The comment system is even worse then it was before, which I didn't think was possible. Not only doesn't it update straight away, sometimes it shits your message into the ether, never to be seen again. You can't tell that this has happened, because it takes it's damn time updating the page. So do you risk losing the post, or double posting and looking like a tit? Thanks for making my life interesting joystiq!

I feel the same way about the comment system. Otherwise, I would comment more. I am getting really sick of n4g.com so I might stick it out. Too many fanboy's make posting over there not worth it. It doesn't matter if your right or wrong. People vote you down without even a response.

12!, lol, I wish!.
I was about 12 in the times of Goldenaxe, and I really can't see why you'd rehash the same old gameplay over and over again and just expect us all to lap it up because it has some nice new next-gen graphics attached, I guess I am just tired of all this hype and gush over games that are identical to games 10-15 years ago, I guess 20 plus years of gaming just makes you a bit jaded.
Braid is the same, yawn, ok so it has some nice graphics, and nice humour etc, but it's nothing really new.
FTR, I have both a 360 and a PS3, although I rarely use the PS3.

Makes sense, Castle Crashers is a lot of fun. I've been neglecting it though with Tales out.

That's cute but when is there going to be a patch for CC,the game crashes very often online.
Also they should improve All you can glork since it is a really painful minigame.
