No, you know what, Multiverse? No. We're not going to do it again. We stood idly by as the announcement of a Firefly MMO had us getting our brown coats out of the closet and breaking up with our girlfriends; a Firefly MMO that, it should be noted, has never materialized in so much as a screenshot. Now you think you can waltz back in with the promise of an MMO based on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, another Joss Whedon show? You couldn't even break our hearts with the beloved IP of a different guy?
More proof that this couldn't possibly be real? You'll apparently be able to "play it either as a fully immersive 3D environment or as a Flash-based 2D game." C'mon, that doesn't even make sense! Tell you what, Multiverse: You put an actual, playable build of the game into our hands. Until then, you'll be met with an indifference as cold as your black, dream-crushing hearts.

That show is so old now, would anyone really care to still play something like this?
But then again they're making a Star Trek MMO aren't they? So maybe it could be popular.

Why did I get voted down for asking if people would play this?

I would play this as I think it would have the potential to make a pretty cool PvE kung-fu style combat system.
There are lots of Slayers in the Buffy Universe afaik like Faith, Buffy, umm the whole bunch of slayers that formed that army in Season 6 or 7 something like that.
I'd love to see a kung-fu system similar ot the Matrix where you gain skill points as you gain levels and choose a particular discipline like Jujitsu, Judo, Karate, etc.
Each having their own advantages regarding speed, strength etc and you could have a 'roll' system with multiple attack angles similar to the Matrix Online. Honestly, out of all the mmorpgs out there, the Matrix Online was one of the combat systems I enjoyed the best.
The only part I really disliked about it was that if three people were attacking one enemy, you'd have to take-turns. Party member 1 attacks, enemy retaliates, party member 2 attacks, enemy retailates, party member 3 attacks, enemy retailiates.
That is kind of silly I think compared to real-life where if three guys are attacking you they won't 'take turns' giving the enemy a fair chance by engaging one at a time. They would just all attack at once and basically gang-stomp them if it was a fight between life and death.
With that battle system made the only advantage of partying being that your party overall would have more hitpoints then if it was party member 1 attacks, enemy retailates, party member 1 attacks, enemy retailiates, party member 1 attacks, enemy retailiates as each retaliation would be directed at the same character.

I believe you got voted down for making the assumption that nobody cares about Buffy because it's "old".

I voted you down just now because I wanted to be part of the crowd...and because you didn't think first about the lesbians!

Being able to play the same game in a flash based form or in 3D is actually a cool idea. Buffy, however, is not.

Apparently my opinion is unpopular. Here's some additional downvote fodder:
Chrono Trigger blew
Blizzard is lackluster
Yahtzee's an idiot
I'm voting independent
Every season of The Simpsons is quality
There's nothing wrong with third-party support for the Wii
I love and support DRM
I support the war
What do you guys have against the Patriot Act?
My penis is bigger than yours (I'm talking to you, Saria and xoviet chik!)
Joystiq sucks

BURN THE INFIDEL!
J/k, Inch...here, I'll sort of join you.
FFVII sucked.
No Country for Old Men sucked, all except for Anton's scary-ness.
I still support our troops despite the fact that I think the war itself is a lost cause.
I'm not voting at all this year, unless it is to write in Voltron...he never spoke; just slashed enemies in half with a sword...THAT'S the kind of President we need!

Fortunately, Firefly probably wouldn't have worked too well as an MMO.

I think it would have worked better than Star Wars did or Star Trek in principle.
Everyone wanted to be a Jedi and everyone will want to own a large warship. Tons of Jedi or Enterprises bombing around doesn't work within the fiction.
Everybody can't be the one saviour of the Galaxy at once.
Whereas with Firefly you've got a small ship of mostly ordinary people making their way in a rough universe trading and fighting.
That scales up to Massive much more easily.
Buffy wouldn't work though. Exactly how many thousand Slayers do we need in one small town?

You kidding? Firefly would work great as a MMORPG. You could play as a member of a group of paid bandits (like the crew of Serenity), as a bounty hunter (like Jubal Early), as an Alliance man (like the Hands of Blue), as a crime lord (like Niska or Badger) and so much more. Settings with few major heroes work best for massive games.

I wouldn't worry about hundreds of slayers running around. First off, with all potentials becoming slayers you could easily have alot. Also people would want to vamps, or kick ass witch. Some would want to be a demon, or even a useless carpenter (Party in my eye socket!), an evil lawyer, or just a kick ass mortal like a Gunn or Scruffy Wesley, or an annoying little sister (OK maybe not)
The game should probably be PVP based, slayers fighting vamp and demons. You could also be a good demon (Clem...just keep your kittens away). With all the slayers running around, you culd keep within the fiction, and not have to fight or be characters from the show. It could take place after Season 5 of Angel.

I died
So many years ago
You can make me feel
Like it isn't so
And why you come to be with me
I think I finally know
mmm-mmm
You're scared
Ashamed of what you feel
And you can't tell the ones you love
You know they couldn't deal
Whisper in a dead man's ear
It doesn't make it real
That's great
But I don't wanna play
'Cause being with you touches me
More than I can say
And since I’m only dead to you
I’m saying stay away and
Let me rest in peace
Let me rest in peace
Let me get some sleep
Let me take my love and bury it
In a hole 6-foot deep
I can lay my body down
But I can't find my, sweet release
So let me rest in peace
You know,
You got a willing slave
You just love to play the thought
That you might misbehave
Till you do,
I'm telling you
Stop visiting my grave
Let me rest in peace
I know I should go
But I follow you like a man possessed
There's a traitor here beneath my breast
And it hurts me more than you've ever guessed
If my heart could beat, it would break my chest
but I can see you're unimpressed
So leave me be and
Let me rest in peace
Let me get some sleep
Let me take my love and bury it
Im a hole 6-foot deep
I can lay my body down
But I can't find my sweet release
Let me rest in peace
Why won't you
Let me rest in peace?

I actually don't really like Buffy. And even if I did, I still wouldn't think it would be a good idea. It's like them making an X-Files MMO. Wait a minute...

Mmmmm, Firefly MMO. Sounds sufficiently grindless and with oodles of fair class options. I want to be Kaylee-class.

I want to be the Xander class, yea you heard me Xander he will be the most Over Powered class ever. Since he has no real powers, runs around like mad from the baddy, tries to attack gets his ass whooped then beats the villain and Bones Faith.
Xander=WIN! Matter of fact one of your moves should just be Bone Faith. It does nothing more than get you boned in a shaddy hotel room with a hot Slayer. Did I mention Bone and Faith nearly enough? The man has hot women coming to his aid and doing is bidding, super powerful hot women. That is Over Powered!
