Rumor: Halo 3 getting new achievements with Mythic

So, if and when it's actually released, it looks like "Halo Mythic" (whatever it is) might actually add more than "0.1 bettar" to Halo 3. A sneaky spy at PAX caught a few pictures of 30 new achievements, reportedly part of Mythic, that would add a whopping 750 gamerpoints to the game. The pics and achievements have been reposted to the Ascendant Justic forum, and we've got the full list after the jump.

Now, Bungie, we have the names of these achievements, we have the name of the thing, now would you please just tell us what the heck Mythic is?

i've read 2 other articles on the joystiq network at least and still can't figure it out. i've had no access to halo 3, can someone explain what mythic is?

Mythic is a new map pack. But, based on these achievements, I think they may be adding a new single player thing. Either a new mode, or maybe a continuation of what Master Chief is doing.

Okay, here's on official explanation in the part of the thread at Bungie.com as written by one of their forum Ninja's.

"I was at PAX. I saw the new achievements, and I saw what it took to reach them. It was no accident; at the end of the day, as Bungie and PAX were shutting down for the day, a PAX visitor sat down at a monitor and deliberately started clicking through to reach achievements, taking advantage of the distractions. Bungie employees were cleaning up for the day and had their backs turned, which is the only reason that the achievements were up for as long as they were. As soon as they noticed, they came over and turned off the television. The same PAX visitor who clicked through to view the achievements had also taken some photographs, and asked a Bungie employee if he could post them. The Bungie employee asked this person not to post them, and the person who originally looked at the achievements has, so far, held true to their promise and neither posted nor discussed the achievements.

The damage, however, was done. Other people had also taken pictures in that short timespan using both cell phone cameras and regular digital cameras. These are the pictures that you see posted all over the internet now.

ANY person who was there can tell you that Bungie did not want these pictures taken, and the only reason that people were able to view the achievements at all is because an ambitious PAX visitor took advantage of Bungie being distracted at the end of the day.

This was not a case of Bungie "purposely displaying" its achievements.

And opog, shame on you -- I told you all of this via private message and you continue to act naive as to what the actual situation was.

I understand that it is not only the right, but also the responsibility of the press and the media to be open about news and information that they are able to dig up. But this was not the press or media -- these are people who call themselves Bungie fans. People who presumably understand Bungie's desire and need for secrecy in new projects. And people who should respect it.

Discussing the pictures? Well hell, once the horse has left the barn, you may as well ride it. But going through the somewhat devious process of reaching the new achievements, and then taking pictures, and then proceeding to POST the pictures despite the fact that Sketch made it obvious that they were not supposed to be seen (and I know all the people who took pictures and they were there when Sketch turned the TV off)? That's something that I hope a true Bungie fan (who presumably wants to see the company succeed) would refrain from.

This is a disappointment for me in the Bungie Community -- a small one, considering all of the awesomeness I saw from the Bungie Community in general at PAX and over the last few days, to be sure. But a disappointment nonetheless.

Like many other community members, I have and will continue to refuse to discuss anything regarding these photographs except to echo Recon Number 54's sentiments in my usual concise style."

originally, instead of the poll that is there now, they had tried to use a new type of polling system that lets users create their own choices or vote for choices someone else created.

Users ended up strongly taking advantage of this, creating choices that were irrelevant and/or vulgar, with a hefty majority having something to do with Crash Bandicoot.

You know Ragnarok, you might be on to something. Exept for the fact there are Ghosts on the last level. :P.

Turn left when you come out of the building after destroying the monitor. There are a few (4 I think) Check under one of the two ramps you took while making your way to the top originally. They will be there.

Anyways, it looks like its confirmed these are real achievements. Even if they were never ment to be released. Assembly is the name of one of the new multiplayer maps. The achievement "Assembly Skull" indicates to me a skull is hidden on the map. The fact their are six "skull" achievements indicate to me the Mythic pack will have a whopping six maps.

Keep in mind, the list in that link was posted almost a month ago -- long before these developments took place, or the final name for "Purple Reign" was even announced. This news is completely true.

The new skull achievements make me think Mythic might add some new SP levels, or maybe they're just for winning Oddball on some new levels. Either way I really like what the new achievements seem to be, things that are fun to get, but still an actual achievement of worth

I too wondered about additional Campaign content. But looking at the skulls, Assembly Skull is obviously for Assembly, and Orbital Skull is prob for the Moonbase Alpha map they've been teasing. I've been waiting for them to add in the additional 250 GS, but I can't believe they'd add in a whopping 750!

Right now I still need 3 achievements form Halo 3 that I never got and to be hones tI don't feel like going back to the multiplayer mode.

I used to have 1k out of 1k, but then I started a new XBL profile so I lost all the multiplayer achievements. I got back a good number of them like the beatdown, assassin, and MVP and progression ones, but trying to get another overkill in FFA just seems like a chore, especially since I always enjoy social matches

Well if you go back to the mythic page, there is no single player... so lets rule that out.
Lets also look at the achievements entirely... most of them are full multiplayer or video-related achievies.
Now lets also go back to a previous video posted weeks ago, it was presented as a "Thank you" for being the most innovative game. Within this video held a special secret, the video presented itself with an ending that has left us all befuddled. You clearly saw a grid like backround (think tron style) and 1 part of a map, with the blue spartan standing on it.
This could only give hint at maybe a once discussed, a much more in-depth map editor instead of the forge.
Also think, usual expansions (such as map packs) only go up to about 250, Gears of War used in a prime example.
Now this "mythic" is going to get 750, that's definetly 3 times bigger than any pack. This can only be shown as a full-blown expansion pack.
Now if you take the new update being applied very soon that lets you dl games strait to the HD (with you still needing the disk for licensing purposes), this could be a disk you insert into your system that will apply the update along with the natural muli-player content of Halo 3.
Now with Microsoft not having a leading exclusive for next november (not this november due to GOW2) They will most likely polish the crap out of it, and release it november of 09.
I tend to believe this due to the fact that Halo will sell, and then after another 2 years, GOW3 will release in 2010. After 2010, expect maybe the next round of nex-gen systems to be shown off. With that, maybe a Third really good exclusive for mircosoft to run with.

This is all just my insight....

On a side note that is based completely off of speculation...I heard from someone I consider a reliable source that "Bungie had plans on making Recon armor available on an anniversary of Halo". Now that phrase is rather vague, and when i originally heard it about a month ago, i figured it could have meant Halo 1 or Halo 3 and most likely one of those anniversaries years from now (plural). But now looking at the information dug up, I'm willing to bet that Recon armor will now be attainable in Mythic, probably by completing the new achievements the same way that the other armor was unlocked.

Of course i say again that this is purely speculation and i could be completely wrong about this.

BootyBox, i've been wondering that too. I'm pretty excited for this, with the achievements, maps, EXP system (will this make it like when Halo 3 was first released?) SP expansion? (that's something i've wanted for a while, but i doubt it'll be a part) If you consider Halo 2, there were 3 or 4 packs with i think 4 maps in each.... Halo 3 needs to match that number. But don't get me wrong, what we have is awesome and it seems like I'm the only one who likes Cold Storage...

BTB maps should be done....meaning...no more, zero...total waste of time. BTB population is roughly less than 3K in a day every single day...so why bother?

I don't want anymore Halo 2 remakes or even Halo 1 remakes. I want some creative originality.

I want Max Hoberman who was lead design on Warlock and on Sanctuary to make some kick ass symmetrical maps that are within the size of Sanctuary.

I want 4 of them. I will pay 800MS points easy for them. I want them by this May, but sooner would be better. I don't want anymore asymmetrical maps, we have enough of them. If I don't get what I want in this third map pack, there better be a 4th map pack with what I want.

I also think Bungie needs to start releasing map packs with themes to them, ie: A Forge Variety map pack.

Which would contain:

1 blank large rectangle canvas
1 blank medium sized octagon canvas
1 blank small circle canvas
1 blank small square canvas

I don't want textured walls, i want flat walls. Throw whatever cool looking colors you want on the walls, I want them flat, meaning no curves at the bottom, no curves at the top towards the ceiling, no overhangs, no windows, no gaps or spaces in the wall, no indentions, none of that garbage.

I don't want any hard-coded geometery in the map that I cannot remove in Forge. I want some new forge objects like SEPARATORS that would block off entire sections of a map so that we can adjust the size of the map accordingly.

Basically Bungie, here's some advice, "if you build it, they will come." Taken from the greatest baseball/inspirational/sports movie ever, Field of Dreams.

For booty box i think that the 1000pts sword (katana hayabusa armor) will stay at 1000pts and if sum1 unlock all the achievement, i think he is going to have new armor pieces or new end game cinematic in halo 3. Its what i am thinking.

Are you gonna get anything for getting all the new achievements? If not I'm not even gonna bother with them. I only got the original 1000 so I could get the Katana. I remember seeing something on a Halo wiki that gave the names of two maps that might be in the Mythic map pack.
