Activision Blizzard still 'reviewing' fate of Ghostbusters, 50 Cent
It seems Activision Blizzard is still uncertain as to who it's gonna call -- to publish ectoplasmic epic Ghostbusters. Speaking to MCV, the newly melded megapublisher was still hesitant to divulge the "absolutely not cancelled" game's fate, along with the fate of fellow Vivendi leftovers like 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand.
In the wake of Vivendi UK's closure, Activision Blizzard's general manager for the region, Andrew Brown, pointed out that while "Crash, Spyro and Prototype will definitely be released this and next year," the company was still in the midst of "reviewing its options regarding titles that it will not be publishing." Sound familiar? If the games are found unsuitable for Activision's immense sequel conveyer belt, it's likely that they'll be shipped off to more eager publishers.
Still, aren't you utterly relieved to learn that Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon are just fine? We were worried there for a second.

That 50 cent is still on the table, after kicking Brutal Legend to the curb, fills me with shame
FOXHOUND @ Sep 4th 2008 12:46PM
Listen. For everyone interested in that 50Cent game... "Act'Bliz", direct them to ARMY OF TWO. Then, for more bro-rape...err, *bro-rampage, shoot'em over to MADDEN'09. But not NHL09 or NHL2K9. Leave that to people who actually give a damn about updating/fixing problems with their sports games instead of buying whatever shilled, single-licensed franchise garbage is available.
"Fitty" had his chance already and the game was mediocre at best.
At least let's see what BRUTAL LEGEND could turn out to be.
There's my angry rant for the year. Back to mellow times featuring games worth commenting about and booze. ;]
Haggard @ Sep 4th 2008 2:14PM
Brutal Legend will probably get some publishing. I reckon if it really can't find anyone else, Valve will offer to put it on Steam. Psychonauts (the last one from Double Fine) is already up, and it's my experience that when a new game with a good metacritic rating goes up on Steam, it sells in the millions.
Organic_Shadow @ Sep 4th 2008 12:38PM
If you're not publishing it then why are you reviewing it? Shouldn't you be parking your car in the grass off the side of a freeway next to a bestbuy, sitting in the back of your minivan's open trunk with a big cage full of these unpublished titles with a sign that says "game puppies. need homes."....?
FOXHOUND @ Sep 4th 2008 12:40PM
Reviewing the fate for 50 Cent? Really? They're *actually* pondering a decision?
Good heavens, the world's spinning on a downward spiral faster than the 3(and possibly four)Atlantic hurricanes combined.

The End is nigh.

I found a leaked copy of the script for 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand. Here's a sample:
*Into: 50 Cent and Tony Yayo are riding around Harlem for no reason whatsoever. Camera moves in on 50's face as he looks out the passenger side window*
50: Yo, so one day me and mah mans Tony Yayo was out ridin', and outta nowheres we saw a crystal skull inna middle of a playground. So I says to Tony, "let's grab that shit". And when we pull over, these Arab dudes started unloadin' clips at us, main...it was payback time.
*Charlton Heston's Ghost appears before 50 and Tony*
CHG: You two young bucks must take up this Crystal Skull on a quest for the Lord!
50: Man, you must be outcho' mind.
*50 unloads a clip at CHG*
CHG: Fine, you two assholes can go to hell, for all I care.
*CHG disappears into a fine mist of blunt smoke*
50: So anyways, we hacked a computah or 3, and made our way to the UN Headquarters, where they always let us in da club.
*Ban Ki-moon gives low-fives and hugs to 50 and Yayo when they walk into UN Headquarters*
50, speaking to the UN General Assembly: 'Ey man, we got dis Crystal Skull, and we gon' bring peace to the world by shootin' a buncha muhfukkaz and takin' these dope beats to tha streets of an obscure Middle-Eastern setting!
*Standing Ovation from General Assembly; Jesus appears behind members of the Assembly, wearing two bullet belts and applauding as well*
The quest begins, yo...
I mean, who WOULDN'T want to publish a title like this?! I might even start a campaign to have Paramount make this into a movie! Realism abounds!
Truthfully, the 50 Cent title can go to development Hell...I hope someone picks up Ghostbusters, though.
FOXHOUND @ Sep 4th 2008 1:47PM
...And 'Fitty' must end every sentence with "or die trying".
woggerman @ Sep 4th 2008 12:46PM
Its pretty obvious that the games they selected to publish are wholly-owned licenses. The games that are being reviewed probably have very large license fees. It is very expensive to merge two companies and they are probably keeping their costs down. Think of it this way. If ghostbusters needs to sell a couple of million units to break even vs. Crash maybe a couple hundred thousand, which one is a greater risk? Of course, this is all speculation.
Aticus @ Sep 4th 2008 12:48PM
Yeah, reviewing it to see how much they can sell the titles to other companies. Good for them. If ActivisionBlizzard doesn't think it's good enough for them, then it probably isn't.

I swear if they actually choose 50 cent over Ghostbusters, I'll never buy another Activition game for as long as I live.
........ok except Diablo 3. BUT THAT'S IT!
kaneda @ Sep 4th 2008 1:06PM
Solution: 50 => No. Ghostbusters => Yes.
Vincent @ Sep 4th 2008 1:24PM
I'm actually looking forward to the Ghostbusters game, could care less about 50cents.
From what I read billy Murry and the rest of the Ghostbusters put allot of time into the voice acting..
I'm hoping maybe after working on the film hey decided to make Ghostbusters 3 and put the game on hold until then...
Dirty @ Sep 4th 2008 1:23PM
But 50 said the game was going to be awesome. Why all the hate? Cant you just take 50's word for it.
Trickob @ Sep 4th 2008 3:29PM
That's a really good point.
Tez (PSN: Tezasaurus) @ Sep 4th 2008 1:39PM
Who cares? Some other company will publish them in Activision won't.
animeman_59 @ Sep 4th 2008 2:01PM
Ghostbusters = Yes
Fiddy Cents = No
Double J @ Sep 4th 2008 2:04PM
What the fuck is there to review? It's god damn Ghostbusters.
Pudge @ Sep 4th 2008 2:22PM
Maybe if 50's game cost 50 cents, then I might be interested. Not so much now.
And I am happy to know that the zombie corpse of Crash Bandicoot will not be pulled off of life support. He's just so cute when he begs for death.
Spud27 @ Sep 4th 2008 3:18PM
I work at Gamestop, which is never the end-all be-all of video game knowledge. However, about a week ago, all Gamestops received and e-mail from corporate saying Ghostbusters was dead, the pre-order sku was pulled, and all pre-order customers were to be called to return/transfer their pre-order. It reassures me to hear that the game still has a possibility of coming out, but I find it less than assuring that companies have already decided to kill support for it.

Ghostbusters Streamproof: Ectoplasm on the Sand
ZippyDSMlee @ Sep 4th 2008 4:59PM
When you are making millions on regurgitating crappy titles doing a few new games good wont kill you.... god I hate suits....
Lijik @ Sep 4th 2008 5:41PM
Why all the Fitty hate?
Personally, I love it when someone nails the "comedy" genre in gaming.
guidedbyvoip @ Sep 4th 2008 7:22PM
fuck.
tkAshur @ Sep 4th 2008 8:08PM
Why do you need to consider anything? Not going through with a Ghostbusters game that already sees alot of attention would be downright foolish. It looks good, fun, beautifuly made...freakin a, wheres the consideration?!?! As for fiddy cent...just ditch it already and get to deciding on ghostbusters!
Jack @ Sep 4th 2008 10:22PM
Whatever they do, I hope its 4 players.

"Crash, Spyro and Prototype will definitely be released this and next year"...yet they're not sure what's going to happen to Ghostbusters. Yeah, we're living in Escher's world for sure.
