Grand Theft Auto IV sells ten million copies

As part of its recent quarterly earnings announcement, Take-Two announced that Grand Theft Auto IV has sold ten million copies through Aug. 16. These sales helped lead the company to a staggering $433.8 million in revenue in the third quarter, over twice as much as the same quarter last fiscal year.

For comparison, the PS2 version of GTA: San Andreas sold 12 million copies worldwide. During a conference call, the company said it would continue to promote GTA IV through the holiday season, and that it expected lifetime sales for the game to "track well ahead of any previous GTA title."

I don't think it'll sell more than any previous title. San Andreas was pretty late in the PS2's life cycle.

man, hype sure sells a lot. my GTA IV hasn't seen the inside of my PS3 since MGS4 came out, and i still have about 60% of GTA IV to beat. i've been busy with more Gears of War, Orange Box and Uncharted to think about GTA IV lately. but i guess Take-Two couldn't care less, since i've already paid them $60 anyway. oh well...

Ironically, my MGS4 hasn't seen the inside of my PS3 since I realized how shitty a game it was and went back to playing GTA4.

BTW, did you know the black guy with blond hair is there to unlock weapons? I can't remember if they mention that.

Before there was a story (like months ago) that the 360 version sold twice as much , ans MS started bragging , then sony went and said they wouldn't be bragging about selling twice as much if they had a 3-1 lead .

I can tell you as much as I know from retail that my store received almost twice as many 360 copies than we did PS3 copies. We constantly sell out of both, but there's a noticeably higher demand for the 360 version.

I thought the PS2 version of San Andreas had sold over 18M copies, with the Xbox version selling about 3M for a total of 21M.

Where are we getting the 12M for San Andreas?
