I see no reason for this. I know it isn't that much, but, If i'm going to play the original rock band songs, I will just do it from the disk. I think EA just wanted to make more money off the game.
Dr Scientist @ Sep 4th 2008 7:12PM
I was under the impression that you were just paying to re-license the tracks, and they weren't making much money off of it, but I could be mistaken.
syrik zero @ Sep 4th 2008 7:18PM
I'm with you Dr Scientist. No one has to pay this. If they feel they want to pop in the disc then they should do that and stop complaining. I'm very willing to pay a small fee to re-license the songs to play almost all songs from Rock Band in Rock Band 2
Christopher Grant @ Sep 4th 2008 7:38PM
What? This is the #1 feature of RB2 if you ask me. They sold me a music platform, and switching discs isn't complementary to that. I'll have (almost) all of my RB1 songs, all of the DLC, and RB2 songs all in one interface. It's platform evolution more than the traditional "song pack" update these rhythm games have had.
syrik zero @ Sep 4th 2008 7:45PM
Way to reiterate what I wrote Chris =P
But it's understandable, I don't see why anyone is complaining. It's an option... That means you can opt not to take part and save you $5 or 400MS points
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Sep 4th 2008 8:11PM
Paying extra five bucks for the songs you've already payed for is a bit of a dick move since it's mostly targeted at people who will rent RB1 to export songs - and they're a relatively tiny minority.
However, $5 or getting of your ass and replacing the DVD is probably as much of fair deal as it can get so you can't really bitch about it.
LocalToast @ Sep 4th 2008 9:28PM
Man, that stinks... no Enter Sandman.
Anyway, my RB1 disc is really scratched up and I can barely get it to work, so this will come in handy. I'll probably have to borrow my friend's copy, but after I export everything I'll never worry about my RB1 disc ever again! (Unless the need arises to play Enter Sandman)
Erik Stroud @ Sep 4th 2008 9:57PM
I'm complaining because EA always does something like this. Also, the renting thing wont work. There is a special code for each game copy. So, if you plan to do this, you might want to rent it as soon as RB 2 comes out.
NoHitHair @ Sep 4th 2008 10:57PM
I'm disgusted that I have to pay anything at all for this transfer to happen. I purchased Rock Band Special Edition, many DLC and a second guitar for this game; it's highly likely I'll spend even more on Rock Band 2 and they're demanding I fork over $5 to play the songs I already fucking paid for? The amount is too small to anger most penny pinchers but big enough to make some money. Malicious and greedy without the face.
Bearxor @ Sep 4th 2008 11:55PM
You realize, of course, that Harmonix is the devoloper of Rock Band and MTV Games is the Publisher. EA only distributes the game.
While they certainly get a cut of each unit sold, I doubt EA is getting residuals from DLC and downloads like this.
Just trying to get you to place your anger where it belongs.
T @ Sep 5th 2008 9:00AM
@Jakka: Except that when they licensed songs for RB1, they didn't anticipate the need for an export option.
Songs in RB1 are licensed for RB1 only. The three (four in the case of Europe) songs that aren't available for one reason or another are due to licensing issues.
RB2 and DLC songs are licensed for the "platform" as opposed to any specific game. Thus they'll hopefully be able to offer the export option again for no cost once they release the next disc.
But at the end of the day, pay the $5 and then sell the disc to Gamestop. There, problem solved....
Whiners...*geez*
syrik zero @ Sep 4th 2008 7:11PM
I want Rock Band 2 now... Once all the songs are unlocked I'll have over 200 songs
AoE @ Sep 4th 2008 7:21PM
Your pokésong epenis is showing...
Slayer @ Sep 4th 2008 9:19PM
Don't worry he can't catch em all. No one ever catches em all. It's like chasing the dragon. :)
GreyFox @ Sep 5th 2008 12:02AM
I would have caught Metalichu if not for the evil trainer Blizzcatchem Avision! Curses!
Chris Wallace @ Sep 4th 2008 7:16PM
What I want to know is if you can export only certain songs. Because there's definately some songs I don't care for (I'm looking at you, Fall Out Boy).
gore on the floor @ Sep 4th 2008 7:17PM
He explains in the video that after you export all of the songs, you can delete specific ones from the HDD if you want to.
Chris Wallace @ Sep 4th 2008 7:17PM
Oh wait, watched the rest of the video, answered my questions.
Misfit Toy @ Sep 4th 2008 7:31PM
Sigh...I tire of all things Rock Band and Guitar Hero.
But there is no escape. There's news on them every single week....aaaahhhhhhgggggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!
Farseer (GDI) @ Sep 5th 2008 12:06AM
I don't think anyone's forcing you to read news you don't like. There are lots of other games out there, so just skip over the ones you detest. That's what I do with articles about sports and racing games.
But I think you know that already.
Misfit Toy @ Sep 5th 2008 2:21PM
It's one thing to skip over a genre you are not interested in. But you literally hear about the SAME GAME ALL YEAR because it has new content coming out EVERY WEEK!
That is my point.
Justin @ Sep 4th 2008 7:33PM
If you don't own Rock Band, then you could borrow it from someone or Gamefly it and then pay the $5 for the download? Then all of it will still carry over to Rock Band 2??
Kevin Morrell @ Sep 4th 2008 8:04PM
Yes.
Jakka(Naked Peach Brigade) @ Sep 4th 2008 8:06PM
Yes, that's the reason why those greedy bastards are charging you in first place.
I'm pretty sure that if Rock Band disc had some kind of a DRM, you wouldn't have the "transfer fee".
Erik Stroud @ Sep 4th 2008 9:59PM
I read somewhere that there is a code that keeps people from doing just that. I'm assuming it comes with the update. So, I wouldn't expect the renting thing to work.
Hala Madrid!! (Madrileno hasta la muerte!) @ Sep 4th 2008 7:34PM
That's a lot of messages, they're probably friend requests.
All rejected. =P
Mr.ESC @ Sep 4th 2008 7:49PM
17,255 Gamerpoints.
1 game plus the Halo Mythic Expansion and I will be right there.
Neebs @ Sep 4th 2008 7:41PM
I'll be deleting Welcome Home ^________________^
syrik zero @ Sep 4th 2008 9:01PM
I love that song!
Mr.ESC @ Sep 4th 2008 7:46PM
Kudos for the Castle Crashers theme.
See the best themes are always free.
theturtle363 @ Sep 4th 2008 8:05PM
but where'd he get that gamerpic? I havent seen that one before. It looks like the Halo Wars spartans, but the only Halo Wars pics are of the vehicles
CubeGuy @ Sep 4th 2008 8:28PM
Well, you can use a vision cam to take your own gamerpics...
Richard Mitchell @ Sep 4th 2008 8:47PM
That is Li'l Chief. A Master Chief action figure and the (sort of) official mascot of X3F.
I took his picture with my Vision Cam :)
Tiptup300 @ Sep 5th 2008 12:22AM
I've had the Rareware theme since the 360 launched, I'm very happy about the new integration of themes with the dash. I can't wait. :D
ChooChooCharlie @ Sep 4th 2008 9:04PM
Question: So, one of the songs that won't transfer over with the export feature is the Europe-exclusive Monsoon. But, what of the NTSC DLC version, will that transfer over to RB2?
syrik zero @ Sep 4th 2008 9:17PM
I was wondering that too. But then I didn't buy it anyway. So didn't care to ask
Jack @ Sep 4th 2008 10:22PM
Companies will always try and take your money.
http://www.squidoo.com/doughboy
Brandon @ Sep 4th 2008 11:01PM
Okay, so if I do this and buy the songs and then export and decide I don't want any I can delete them. Now it's 3 weeks later and I realize, hey those songs that I deleted are cool I want them now. Do I have to repay to get another download key, or can I just go through the process again free of charge once I pay for the key one time?
Ghoti @ Sep 4th 2008 11:30PM
I've already paid the 400 points and done the export. Now, all I have to do is to wait for RB2, and I'll instantly have over 250 songs to have fun with!!!
Timmy & the Lords of the Underworld will not be played on my system any more though. The exported version of that song is already deleted. :-)
Egon Pax @ Sep 5th 2008 12:53AM
Well dang it. I'm upset with the songs that aren't transferable. Ugh...
I want those songs gosh darn it!
Gene @ Sep 5th 2008 4:47PM
what about the extra downloaded songs (i.e. purchased song packs)? are they playable in Rockband 2 or forever attached to Rockband one?
T @ Sep 5th 2008 9:04AM
DLC songs are playable across both versions of RB1. The update released yesterday gave RB1 the ability to play DLC released after RB2 comes out.
This has also been known since RB2 was first annouced. Or at least shortly thereafter.
T @ Sep 5th 2008 9:04AM
I will likely wait a while to do this. I only have the "20 GB" (as in, 13 GB) HDD.
I play most of the time online, so all of my DLC goes to waste as it is (get a band of four...one likely will always have 0 DLC songs).
If I haven't but many more DLC songs by the end of the year, maybe I'll do this then.
The Fuzz 53 @ Sep 5th 2008 9:36AM
Anyone else shocked that a song by the guys that shut down Napster won't transfer over to the other game?
Ralph @ Sep 5th 2008 1:15PM
All of you complainers should shut up. 5 bucks is a small price to play green grass and high tides with a NO FAIL option.
Vcize @ Sep 5th 2008 2:46PM
I honestly cannot believe that people are complaing about this $5. Here's a little trick.
1) Pay the $5 and transfer the songs over
2) Sell your RB1 disc for $15-20
3) Enjoy having an EXTRA $10-15 AND not having to get up and change discs on top of that.
4) Stop being an idiot (this will be the toughest of the four steps).
NoviHigh @ Sep 17th 2008 6:15PM
The same for me toast, my RB1 disk is scratched so this is like a dream come true. thanks to Alex or making this great vid!
